by Matthew Cerrone on June 10th, 2005 at 8:36 am

Piazza’s wrist hurts.  Cliff Floyd’s hand has cleat marks in it. Ramon Castro has a jammed finger.  And though they’ve said they are ready to start playing again, Doug Mientkiewicz has sore ribs and Miguel Cairo’s hamstring remains tight.  Meanwhile, Carlos Beltran has been playing with a sore quadripcep for nearly two months, as is Mike Cameron, which he suffered earlier this week….

…steve trachsel may be the healthiest guy on the team right now…

QuoteBook: Mets vs Astros

by Matthew Cerrone on June 10th, 2005 at 8:19 am

“That’s baseball…It felt liked we were going to win the way we played late in the game.  We made some plays…we came back when we were down.  It just felt like we were going to win.  But not this time.” – Mets OF Cliff Floyd…

you can’t win them all, especially when half the team is wrapped in bandages…this loss stings, but we can handle it

“We didn’t really swing the bats as a team tonight.  That was really, to me, the difference.” – Mets manager Willie Randolph…

…i have no idea what this means…i think he’s saying, ‘not enough people had hits,’ but i envision eight guys in the batter’s box all holding on bat when he says it…

“Crappy luck right now…I broke some bats and they hit some off the end of the bat,” Bell said. “I didn’t get outs. I lost the game, so I couldn’t say it was a good outing.  Luck was on their side.  They hit some balls where we weren’t… I have good teammates because everybody is telling me to keep my head up, but it feels horrible when you let the team down like I did. ” – Mets RHP Heath Bell

mientkiewicz…is that you

“I’ve been flailing at balls for over a decade with Tom Glavine, with less than no success.  A blind squirrel found an acorn.” – Astros C Brad Ausmus…

nice timing
