by Matthew Cerrone on June 20th, 2005 at 2:11 pm

Last Friday, Carlos Beltran talked with MLB Radio’s Stayin Hot

When asked about his health, Beltran stated that his leg is still bothering him.  Although he is working as hard as he can, if he were 100 percent, Beltran added, he’d be able to do a lot more, noting he just can’t play the game the way he wants to play it…

he should have been on the disabled list weeks agoas i asked a month ago, which is better, a weak beltran now or a strong beltran later

to listen to beltran complete interview, check out the archives at mlb radio from june 17

by Matthew Cerrone on June 20th, 2005 at 12:46 pm

“No one in this room is giving up. We’re not going to give up. There’s no reason to,” Mark Hale of the New York Post quotes Doug Mientkiewicz as saying. “Every team in baseball goes through this.”…

…in other words, ya gotta believe…

Buzz: Cameron and Matsui Fly Around the Rumor Mill

by Matthew Cerrone on June 20th, 2005 at 8:38 am

Ken Rosenthal compiled two Inside Dish columns this weekend at The Sporting News…

In the first, Rosenthal notes that the Mets rejected an offer by the Giants to swap Kaz Matsui for Ray Durham, noting that the Mets believe Matsui to be a ‘superior’ defender to Durham…

interesting, i didn’t realize durham played with out hands

sounds like it was probably fonzi for kaz, and when fonzi got hurt, it switched to durham and the mets balked…fair enough

In his second column, Rosenthal adds that the Mets are reluctant to trade Mike Cameron as long as they are in contention…

although they’ve sold it otherwise, it is uncanny how much this year feels like last year

Quote: Floyd Knows the Mets Must be Better

by Matthew Cerrone on June 20th, 2005 at 8:26 am

“This is serious,” Cliff Floyd lamented to reporters after yesterday’s loss.  “If we think we’re any kind of good team, we can’t play like this.”…

you know how it goes…you’re never as good as when you’re on a winning streak, and never as bad as when you’re on a losing streak, your true talent is some place in between…

…and ‘in between’ for the mets right now will not win this division, or a wild card

News: Cameron to Have Ultradsound on Knee

by Matthew Cerrone on June 20th, 2005 at 8:22 am

As the Mets head from Seattle to Philadelphia, Mike Cameron will swing by New York to meet with doctors for an ultrasound to determine how much fluid is in his swollen knee…

Cameron missed his sixth straight game Sunday but is running and taking light batting practice…

“If they can’t drain it, we’ll have to play it by ear, because it’s slow-healing,” Cameron told reporters yesterday…

if this season isn’t as successful as some hoped it would be, we may look back and point a giant finger at this team not putting guys on the disabled list when they needed to be…the ramifications of waiting, from playing starters at half-strength to the weakening of the bench, are becoming obvious to the naked eye now…

…not good
