…talk about seeing the silver lining…
Metito explains what we would have missed had Billy Wagner not blown a save in the ninth inning last night…
…man, i thought i was all about watching baseball for excitement…this guy has me beat by a mile…
According to the Daily News, the Mets have re-signed Jose Offerman to a minor-league deal…
…willie or omar must have a crush on him…it’s the only explanation…
Over at the Mets Minor League Report, Toby recaps the night in Mets minor league action…
Among other comments, Toby writes of strong performances by Jay Caligiuri, who was 2–for-4 in Binghamton’s loss to Akron, and OF Fernando Martinez, who was 3–for-6 with a home run…
…toby provides a mets minor league report after each night’s action…thanks, toby…
The 17–year-old Martinez is batting .349 in 83 at-bats with two home runs for Single-A Hagerstown…
In 86 at-bats for Binghamton, Caligiuri, 26, is batting just .198 with 26 strike outs, though 19 walks and 15 RBI…
Appearing in his weekly interview spot on WFAN’s Mike and the Maddog, Mets manager Willie Randolph was asked whether RHP John Maine will continue to start in place of the injured Brian Bannister…
Randolph told the radio show’s hosts…
“I think so. We haven’t made a total decision on that, but I think he pitched well enough to get another shot.”…
Last night, during his post-game remarks, Randolph made a similar comment regarding Maine…
“He pitched well enough to get another start, but we’ll wait and see.”…
…sounds like maine will get the start…can’t see why he wouldn’t, actually…it’s not like he had a melt down, he was just a bit nervous and didn’t trust his stuff…a second time out will hopefully do him well…
To read my written recap of Randolph’s interview on WFAN, go here…

Please accept my apologies for the technical difficulties at MetsBlog.com yesterday…
According to the Blog Harbor home page, “a type of attack known as a DDOS or distributed denial of service attack was inflicted on the systems at the data center where our systems are located.”…
…while i have no idea what that means, it sounds serious…all i know is that everything is back to normal…in fact, the site seems to be running more smooth now, so, good for blog harbor…
I did, however, continue to make a number of posts throughout the day yesterday, though many of you certainly missed them, such as…
Willie Randolph’s comments while appearing on WFAN…
Ron Darling’s mailbag at SNY…
An eMailbag response about the Mets struggles against young, unknown pitchers…
And an SI.com poll by players who feel Beltran is overrated…
If you have time, feel free to go back and read what I wrote…
Thanks, again, for your patience and readership and have a great afternoon…
Lets Go Mets…

Mets LHP Billy Wagner blew his third save of the young season in the ninth inning last night, allowing the game to reach extra innings, with the Mets eventually winning in 12…
In the New York Post, Michael Morrissey leads his column by writing, “Maybe it’s a bit premature to start calling him Braden Wagner, but it is time to be concerned about Billy Wagner.”…
…settle down, man…i mean, are people serious with this bit…Mariano Rivera has a blown save and a loss, as well…and one of wagner’s came against the greatest hitter of our generation, Barry Bonds…please, he’s fine…nobody’s perfect, not even mariano, especially in april and may…remember last season, reporters and columnists couldn’t stop writing about how relievers struggle early in the season, no matter who they are…suddenly, we’ve all forgotten that…if wagner is off his game, i’d chalk it up to a) his finger, and b) to the idea that mistakes happen…the key is that while he’s off his game, the team wins, which they have…
In two of Wagner’s three blown saves, the Mets have won the ball game…
Wagner, as quoted by the Daily News and Newsday…
“That’s why they call it a team. I’d hate to have to go through that too often, but you have a team like this that can pick you up. Carlos has been huge all year long with clutch hits. Just his day to shine, I reckon…
“I just didn’t make pitches…I had opportunities and I just didn’t make pitches…
“Really, it sucks. You’d love to say it’s never going to happen but it does.”…
…i can’t believe he actually says reckon…
…anyway…
…i like that he didn’t blame the weather, which he could easily have done…
…speaking of wagner…
In a column at ESPN.com about the brilliance of Yankees RHP Mariano Rivera, Peter Gammons closes by listing 11 other solid closers in baseball. Among them, Gammons includes Billy Wagner, but writes of the list, and the Mets closer, “the only guarantee for that group of 11 is that at least two will break down during the season. Check Wagner’s finger.”…
…oh, petey, you’re so coy…
If you recall, BP’s Will Carroll put forth a similar fear back a few weeks ago…
…i don’t know…wagner looks pretty good to me…i know these two are alluding that he’ll eventually break down…i’ll believe it when i see it, though…fortunatly, RHP Duaner Sanchez has looked outstanding, and between him and RHP Aaron Heilman, i am confident that a temporary injury to wagner could be sustained…but let’s hope it never even gets to that…
Speaking of Sanchez, at MLB.com, Bryan Hoch writes a great profile of our favorite set-up man…
And speaking of Wagner, Joe McDonald’s NY Sports Day has teamed up with Last Licks, an outstanding ice cream and memorabilia shop, to give one lucky Mets fan the opportunity to meet Mets LHP Billy Wagner on Saturday, May 6, 2006 at the Last Licks store in Massapequa…

Mets 1B Carlos Delgado hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 12th to give his team a 4-3 win over the Pirates last night…
Delgado, as quoted by a variety of newspapers… “It’s exciting. Every time you can get a win, in any way, any fashion, it’s great… “I think that we got very good character on this ball club. We blew a two-run lead in the ninth, but we kept battling…The one thing that we’ve seen so far is we don’t quit. We keep playing hard until the last out.”… …the buzz from shea is that delgado could get tonight off, his first of the season, while Julio Franco takes over the job at first base…
Last night, Mets OF Endy Chavez was 4–for-5 with a tremendous diving catch in extra innings. He is 15–for-38 on the season, and has 10 hits in his last 16 at-bats…
Chavez, as quoted in a variety of newspapers…
“It was a pretty good game, and the best part of the night was we got the job done… “I feel a lot better at the plate. I feel like I’m making good contact…It helps me to get my confidence up… “I’m the fourth outfielder – I know they’re going to give me a lot of at-bats. Every time they give a day off to the other outfielders I’ve just got to be ready to play the game.”…
Mets manager Willie Randolph, appearing on SNY’s Post-Game Live…
“I just had a good feeling about him before the game. And he came through big time.”…
For more on Chavez, check out Michael Morrissey in the New York Post, Sean Brennan in the Daily News, and John Delcos in the Journal News, who writes of Randolph, “With a hunch like he had last night, Willie Randolph should have gone to Vegas.”…
According to an announcement during last night’s game, fans who bought tickets for last night’s game – whether they showed up or not - can trade each ticket for a free ticket to any one game during the June 19-21 series against the Reds… For more information, call the Mets Ticket Office at 718.507.TIXX… …well done, shea… …now, if you could just stop charging a mortgage payment per beer, while taking the cap off my soda bottle, we’ll be in business…
To start, go to Baseball Musings, where David points out that had Pedro Martinez been pitching this game with the American League’s DH rule, he’d most likely be 6–0…
…and i would have been bored…the designated hitter is for pansies…
In standard Faith and Fear fashion, Greg imagines a hysterical dialogue between Pedro Martinez and the clerk in the Department of Lost Wins…
…long, but funny…good stuff…
John, at Metsradamus, has questions, such as, “When do the “Duaner Sanchez for closer” calls start coming in to the FAN?”…
…i actually heard one last night at around 3 a.m…unreal…
Chris, at MiracleMets.net, seems to be getting close to that point, writing, “the only relief pitcher I can safely say he has pitched better than in 2006 is Jorge Julio.”…
Among other facts, Mark, at Mets Walk-offs, points out that this is the 10th time that the Mets beat the Pirates on a walk-off home run, with the previous coming on June 22, 1997…
…it’s at the point now, that when the team wins this way, i immediately think of mark…
Steve, at the Eddie Kranepool Society, imagines what Delgado wrote in his diary after last night’s dramatic win, and makes several interesting observations, such as, “How the hell does Adam Dowdy get to be a big league ump?”…
…don’t ask willie…
Kevin, at Take the 7 Train, simply describes last night’s game as, “The Endy Chavez Show.”…
…he is a good little player…a necessary addition to this team, given how bad Jose Valentin looks…and that catch, endy, that catch…good lord, man…
Lastly, Carolina Mike, the Transplanted Mets Fan, made the trip to Queens to sit in Shea and get rained on all last night. Fortunatly for Mike, Shea Stadium announced after the game that any fan attending last night’s will be given tickets to another game, which is very nice of the them…
…yikes, man…i get bummed when i trek to the stadium from connecticut and it rains…sorry, man…but we admire your dedication…way to show your stripes…
