To make room for Jeremi Gonzalez on the team’s 40–man roster, the Mets have put RHP Bartolome Fortunato on the 60–day disabled list…
Fortunato will undergo Tommy John surgery on Thursday in New York…
…from what i can gather, fortunato first complained of elbow stiffness just after the beating he was given by the braves last sunday…his option to norfolk was voided and he was hopped on the 15–day disabled list…now he’s on the 60–day and about to have surgery…man, i though i was having a rough week…damn…
The Game…
The Mets (22–13) take on the Brewers (18–18) in the second game of a three-game set at Miller Park starting at 7 pm EDT…
The Pitchers…
RHP Jeremi Gonzalez starts for the Mets … Gonzalez is 31–years-old … This is his first start for the Mets … He is 26–33 with a 4.84 ERA for his career spanning 79 starts in 107 career appearances for the Cubs, Devil Rays and Red Sox dating b ack to 1997 … His last start in the majors came exactly one year ago for Boston … The only player in the Brewers lineup to face Gonzalez is Carlos Lee, who is 1–for-6 against him…
LHP Dana Eveland starts for the Brewers … For his career Eveland has 27 appearances, all of which in relief … This is his first appearance of the season … He is starting in place of the injured Ben Sheets … No Mets hitter has faced him more than once …

In the Daily News, Adam Rubin cites Willie Randolph as saying that RHP John Maine is finally ready to grip a baseball…
Maine is eligible to return from the disabled list on May 18…
The Mets have called up RHP Jeremi Gonzalez to make today’s start. In turn, Heath Bell has been sent back to Triple-A Norfolk…
…i have faith in gonzo, but he’s a fly-ball pitcher working in a hitter’s park against a team that loves to swing for the fences…should be interesting to watch…good luck, buddy…
…the buzz from shea is that the team will not make any decisions about whether Jose Lima will remain in the rotation until they see how Jeremi Gonzalez does today…which makes total sense…the team is hopeful, and confident that Brian Bannister will be able to start this friday or saturday against the yankees, so if gonzalez pitches well, lima will most likely be sent back to triple-a, at which point many people feel he could retire…but, if gonzo struggles, the team could reconsider lima for yet another start…
In the Star-Ledger, M.A. Metha notes that Victor Zambrano is set to have surgery on his right-elbow…
The Mets lost to the Brewers by a score of 9 to 6 at Miller Park last night…

…a few thoughts…
…call me an optimist, but i want Jose Lima to succeed…i mean, he’s in a mets uniform, and the team is in dire need of someone, anyone to step up and take hold of the back-end of the rotation…and why not, lima…well, now i have an answer to that…because he appears to be just good enough to get a job in the major-leagues, but no longer good enough to keep one…he’s just good enough to get a few batters out out and get my hopes up, but not good enough to get a lot of batters out and be a starter…lima time is over…
…for the first time this season i am starting to worry about Cliff Floyd…a week ago he was hitting the ball, and they were just not falling in…now he looks pull happy, and is swinging at everything…
…we mull over stats and argue about surface issues, but so often it is little things, such as Jose Reyes not covering third on Bill Hall’s hit in the fifth, leaving David Wright confused, then diving after Geoff Jenkins for what should have been the inning’s final out, instead of being able to toss to reyes, leaving the floodgates open…
…again the umpire was criticized…lima argued a variety of calls, and i see a variety of bloggers complaining that Brady Clark should’ve been called out for taking to wide of a turn, except that had reyes covered third like he was supposed to it’d been a moot point…i’m all for ripping an ump, but, at some point, this is excuse needs to go away, especially when the team is making mistakes, like reyes’s above mental error, or floyd swinging at bad pitches, and so on…this is why that hot start was so key, because the team allowed itself a little room for error, or errors…but, at some pont, that is not enough…they’ve lost three of four at a time when the phillies are playing well, and that’s okay…no team is perfect…however, with the back of thr rotation unsettled, and coming through its turn on the rotation, this is no time to lose focus…
…good luck, Jeremi Gonzalez…
