In Newsday, Jon Heyman writes that the A’s asked the Mets for either David Wright or Jose Reyes in exchange for LHP Barry Zito, which the Mets naturally declined…
Heyman concludes, “the Mets now view Zito as a winter target.”…
…i suppose the a’s plan would be to have wright and reyes play while sitting on the shoulders of Eric Chavez and Bobby Crosby…
…i guess the a’s are basically saying what we all know, which is that it is way, way too early for them to consider trading zito, especially since they are 22–20 and in first place…
According to MLB.com, the Mets have called up Double-A RHP Alay Soler, presumably to start on Wednesday at Shea Stadium against the Phillies…
In three starts for Binghamton, he was 1-0 with a 2.75 ERA, limiting opponents to a .222 batting average. He tossed at least six innings and allowed less than three runs in each appearance…
…with this news, it seems the rotation will stack up as follows through the next turn…
Tuesday: Steve Trachsel vs. Phillies
Wednesday: Alay Soler vs. Phillies
Thursday: Jeremi Gonzalez vs. Phillies
Friday: Pedro Martinez at Marlins
Saturday: Tom Glavine at Marlins
At NYBaseballCentral.com, Mike McGann writes that had Mike Pelfrey put forth a strong outing last night at Double-A, he would’ve been called-up to start this week against the Phillies…
However, as Brian Moritz reports in the Press & Sun Bulletin, Pelfrey struggled, having pitched just two-thirds of an inning, allowing three walks, two hits and two runs…
…as such, the buzz in new york is that the team will turn to RHP Alay Soler, instead…they could’ve skipped the fifth slot in the rotation, since they are off on monday…however, it appears they prefer to keep Pedro Martinez on his standard five-days rest between starts…
