Y2K: Promote the Curse interviews Adam, of Brooklyn Met Fan, about his blog, his goals for the site and his experience as a beat writer for the Beacon.
…great interview, guys…i look forward to reading more of this series…
In the Star-Ledger, Don Burke quotes Gregg Clifton, the agent for free-agent LHP Mark Mulder, as saying the Mets are very high on Mulder’s list because of the pitcher’s past relationship with Rick Peterson, New York’s pitching coach.
Peterson was Mulder’s pitching coach with the A’s, during which he was 64-34 with a 3.81 ERA while making no fewer than 26 starts in a season.
Towards the end of last week, the Daily News reported that the Mets were one of eight teams to call Clifton to express interest in Mulder.
Teams can begin negotiating with other team’s free agents beginning Sunday.
Sealed bids from MLB teams for the rights to negotiate with Japanese RHP Daisuke Matsuzaka were submitted to the Commissioner’s Office by 5 pm yesterday.
According to multiple reports, the Mets, Red Sox, Yankees, Rangers, D’Backs and Cubs are all believed to be involved.
Matsuaka’s current team, the Seibu Lions, have most likely already been made aware of the highest bid, but not the identity of the team. The Lions have until Tuesday, November 14, to accept the bid.
…there is buzz from japan that the owner of the lions will accept the bid regardless of the amount, due to some sort of extraordinary financial needs…
Once the bid is accepted, which could happen any time between now and next Tuesday’s deadline, MLB will reveal the name of the winning organization to the public.
Matsuzaka’s agent, Scott Boras, and the winning team will have 30 days to negotiate a contract.
If a deal is not reached, the bid money is returned from the Lions and Matsuzaka returns to Japan for next season.
…the word around baseball is that matsuzaka and boras will seek a guaranteed three-year deal, with as many as five-years in total, worth roughly $13 million per season…
In the New York Post, Brett Cyrgalis quotes Cardinals manager Tony LaRussa as saying of the Mets, “They’re doing things right.”.
LaRussa’s Cardinals defeated the Mets in seven games during the NLCS en route to a World Championship over the Tigers.
…well, now i feel better…we have larussa’s blessings…i mean, i was losing sleep, hoping, praying for his approval…but now we have it…life can go on again…
…actually, i heard from a friend, who spent time with the cardinals during the world series, that the cardinals were shocked they lost to the mets, noting that a team of their quality should never lose at home in a seventh game…i don’t know if they were being sarcastic, or sincere…i’m thinking sarcasm, based on this…
Following a walk-off, home run by Jose Reyes to complete a sweep by the MLB All-Stars over the Japanese All-Stars earlier this week, the crowd in Fukuoka, Japan broke out in a loud Jose-Jose-Jose chant.
Phillies 1B Ryan Howard, who won the series MVP, regarding the chant, as quoted by Adam Rubin in the Daily News…
“I actually thought we were in Shea Stadium. I heard it way too much this year. It just goes to show you baseball transcends just where we are. It’s global.”
…nice…
…i wonder how Carl Crawford feels about this…
According to MLB.com, the Rockies have hired Alan Cockrell as their hitting coach and Glenallen Hill as first-base coach.
Former-1986 Mets Gary Carter and Howard Johnson had been a short-list of candidates for the two Colorado positions, reported the Rocky Mountain News during late-October.
Carter is currently the manager of the Single-A St. Lucie Mets, while Johnon remains under contract as a coach in the Mets minor-league system.
…as a fan, this is weird, because i know these guys need to do what’s best for them, it’s just that i like knowing they are still affiliated with the mets…i mean, carter and hojo are mets, it just seems right, you know…sorry, guys…
