Predictions: Under/Overs for 2007 Mets

by Matthew Cerrone on March 30th, 2007 at 11:00 am

all around the web these days we read predictions about who will win, by how many games, etc…instead, i asked a few of my favorite writers, and fellow bloggers, to take part an under/over round of mets-related predictions

The Columnists, include Ken Rosenthal, from FOXSports.com, Bob Klapisch from ESPN.com and the Bergen Record, Buster Olney from ESPN.com, and Matt Meyers, from Baseball America.

The bloggers include Dave Pinto, from Baseball Musings, and Matthew Cerrone, Anthony De Rosa, DJ Short, Regis Courtemanche and Mike Nichols.

MetsBlog’s Under/Over Predictions

Number of bases that Jose Reyes will steal: 59.5

Rosenthal Over De Rosa Over
Olney Over Courtemanche Over
Meyers Under Nichols Over
    Short Over
    Pinto Under

…in other words, we all think reyes is fast…i voted over because i believe he’ll get on base even more this season than last, and since the boy loves to run it is only natural he’ll steal more than last season

Number of on-field fights the Mets will have with an opposing team this season: 1.5

Rosenthal Under De Rosa Over
Olney Over Courtemanche Over

    Short Over
    Pinto Over

…i like it…seven of ten think the Mets will get in more than two fights this season…i said over, as well, because i just have a feeling it’s going to be that type of season…it’s gonna be a dogfight

Number of days before Lastings Milledge is the every-day right fielder, in place of Shawn Green: 30.5

Klapisch Under Cerrone Over
Rosenthal Over De Rosa Over
Olney Under Courtemanche Over
Meyers Over Nichols Over
    Short Over
    Pinto Over

strange, in that the columnists split, yet all of the bloggers clearly feel willie will be extra slow to pull the trigger, or we all have total faith in green…some how i suspect it’s the former

Number of wins for Pedro Martinez: 5.5

Columnists Under-Over Bloggers Under-Over

Klapisch Under Cerrone Under
Rosenthal Under De Rosa Under
Olney Under Courtemanche Over
Meyers Under Nichols Over
    Short Under
    Pinto Under

you figure if he’s back by mid-august, he’ll get six to seven starts, which means the majority of us believe he’ll pitch well, at best, or not even make a return

Number of appearances for Aaron Heilman: 79.5

Columnists Under-Over Bloggers Under-Over

Klapisch Under Cerrone Under
Rosenthal Under De Rosa Under
Olney Under Courtemanche Over
Meyers Under Nichols Under
    Short Under
    Pinto Under

last season, heilman appeared in 74 games…this season, it seems he has a larger responsibility, thanks to the injury to Duaner Sanchezi responded with under, because i have a feeling we are going to see so many different people pitching from the bullpen this season, it will be difficult for heilman to get the ball as much as last year…

Number of days Orlando Hernandez will spend on the disabled list: 21.5

Meyers Under Nichols Over
    Short Over

so, apparently most all of us feel hernandez is made of paper mache…more than 21.5 days would be at least one trip on the 15 day disabled list, and a little extra for his annual summer vacation, i suppose

Number of different players to start at second base for the Mets: 3.5

Columnists Under-Over Bloggers Under-Over

Klapisch Over Cerrone Over
Rosenthal Under De Rosa Over
Olney Over Courtemanche Under
Meyers Under Nichols Under
    Short Over
    Pinto Over

…between David Newhan, Damion Easley and Jose Valentin, the team will already start three…however, i still believe they’ll eventually trade for, and promote, a new starter by the end of the season, hence the four

Number of posts at MetsBlog.com that will reference rumored trade talks between the Mets and A’s: 16.5

Columnists Under-Over Bloggers Under-Over

Klapisch Over Cerrone Over
Rosenthal Over De Rosa Over
Olney Over Courtemanche Over
Meyers Over Nichols Under
    Short Over
    Pinto Over

…for what it’s worth, this question got a nice laugh out of klapisch, probably because he knows better than anyone how the information rumor highway tends to have a direct line between oakland and new york…seriously, it’s becoming a tradition…every summer we go bananas over some bizarre trade possibility between the Mets and A’s, that seems to be a perfect fit, and inevitable, yet never happens…

Number of the games the Mets will win: 88.5

Columnists Under-Over Bloggers Under-Over

Klapisch Over Cerrone Over
Rosenthal Over De Rosa Over
Olney Over Courtemanche Over
Meyers Over Nichols Over
    Short Over
    Pinto Over

…interesting…the odds in Las Vegas put the under/over for Mets wins at 89…i made it 88.5, to avoid a tie, and yet every single person responded by saying the Mets will win more than 88.5, which is great to see
