Vote: Put Mr. Met in Hall of Fame

by Matthew Cerrone on August 13th, 2007 at 12:02 pm

Currently, Mr. Met is roughly 7500 votes behind The Coyote on this year’s ballot for the Mascot Hall of Fame.

and that’s just sad…

…the voting process is a bit tedious, i’ll admit, but i think we owe it to Mr. Met to vote as much as possible…so, if you’ve yet to do so, go to the Mascot Hall of Fame and get to voting

By the way, this weekend, on ESPN.com, Howard Megdal puts Mr. Met’s candidacy to Bill James’ Ken Keltner Test, “a list of subjective questions devised by the sabermetric guru.”

as if you need extra reason, see below

added to by Regis Courtemanche

…the fact that the Philly Phanatic was a first ballot hall of famer and Mr. Met still isn’t in bothers me to no end…

…he needs our support more than ever…time to dig in deep and make this happen for all that is good in the world…

Quote: Oliver Perez is Not Bad

by Matthew Cerrone on August 13th, 2007 at 11:50 am

During yesterday’s win against the Marlins, Oliver Perez allowed four runs and six hits, while striking out four and walking four, over five innings.

Willie Randolph, talking to reporters after the game…

“Ollie threw the ball pretty good.  His pitch count was up, but after the home run early in the game, and the inning where he gave up a few runs, they really didn’t do much against him…I really didn’t think he pitched that bad really…it was enough to keep us in the game and thank goodness we scored some runs.”

…he and John Maine both look a little burned out to me, which is sort of expected…perez’s velocity is down a bit, but that’s not that big of a deal to me…what concerns me most, about both pitchers, is that they have so little command of late, be it in the overall game, the at-bat or each pitch…i trust they’ll get it together, but for now, it’s worrisome

Stats: Bullpen Arm and Outfield Bat

by Matthew Cerrone on August 13th, 2007 at 10:41 am

Since being moved to the bullpen on July 31, RHP Jorge Sosa has allowed just one run in 11 innings.

Meanwhile, since July 31, OF Moises Alou is batting .350 with five HR and nine RBI in 11 games.

…so, as of now, there is the bullpen arm and right-handed bat the Mets had hoped to acquire at last month’s non-waiver trade deadline, and they didn’t have to give up Mike Pelfrey or Lastings Milledge to get them…

By the way, since joining the Red Sox, Eric Gagne has allowed seven runs in four innings.

by Matthew Cerrone on August 13th, 2007 at 10:36 am

yes, i am aware that the standings on this site have not been updated in a few days…as i am sure you can figure out, based on other oddities, i am having a few behind-the-scenes issues at MetsBlog, which is hurting my ability to update graphics, side-bar content and comments being flagged as spam…

…however, i am still able to post information to the main page of the site, like this…

…thank you for being patient, as we are working on a solution

Read: Sidd Speak and Mets at Home

by Matthew Cerrone on August 13th, 2007 at 10:21 am

At Hot Foot, Sidd Finch is back with yet another edition of Sidd Speak, in which he tosses around random, but always relevant, statements about the Mets, such as…

“The Mets play at Shea with an enthusiasm usually reserved for trips to the dentist.”

This season, the Mets are 65–52 overall, 32–27 at home and and 22–21 against the National League East.

Last season, at this point, the Mets were 71–45 overall and 35–22 at home, but 31–16 against the NL East.

…i’m far more concerned with how the Mets have played against their own division, than i am with how they’ve played at home…the NL East more or less only plays the NL East during the final five weeks of the season, so, there’s your division title, folks

Health: Paul Lo Duca to have MRI

by Matthew Cerrone on August 13th, 2007 at 9:11 am

Mets C Paul Lo Duca will have an MRI today on what is believed to be a strained right hamstring, though the catcher told reporters that the pain may also be attributed to a ‘scar tissue thing.’

from what i can gather, lo duca may be disappointed and confused and a bit irritated with being put on the disabled list, he also understands why the Mets made the decision, and he recognizes how important his overall health is to the team…
