The Mets (68–53) defeated the Nationals (55–68) by the score of 7 to 4 in D.C. last night.

…hello Luis Castillo, who hit a line drive home run over the left-field wall…
…what i enjoyed most about this game was that the Mets did exactly what they have been saying they need to do, which is score early and score often…they scored in every inning except the second and eighth and five different players had an RBI…crazy thing is that they also left 10 guys on base…
…also, Oliver Perez looked decent, sort of, allowing three runs on seven hits while walking three through the sixth inning…he threw 101 pitches, though…i mean, what is with the high pitch counts and early exists for Mets pitcher lately…strange…it’s putting so much stress on the bullpen…the Mets used Jorge Sosa, Aaron Heilman and Billy Wagner, and Guillermo Mota, who, of course, was the only one in the group to allow a run…
…by the way, just another day at the office for Billy Wagner…
Ramon Castro has been put on the
disabled list retro-active to August 13, and will be replaced on the 25–man roster by Sandy Alomar Jr.
…from Paul Lo Duca and castro to Mike DiFelice and alomar…what a year…
The Mets (68–53) take on the Nationals (55–67) tonight in DC for the second game of a three-game series.
The Lineup…
Jose Reyes leads off, followed by Luis Castillo, David Wright, Carlos Beltran, Moises Alou, Damion Easley at first, Lastings Milledge in right, Mike DiFelice and Oliver Perez
The Pitchers…
Oliver Perez (10-8, 3.46 ERA) starts for the Mets. Perez gave up four runs in seven innings during April in his only start against the Nationals this season. He has allowed 20 runs in 22 innings in his last four starts.
John Lannan (1-1, 3.00) will start for the Nationals. He gave up one run in seven innings last Saturday against the D’Backs. It was the second straight start Lannan has allowed just one run in seven innings. He is making his first appearance against the Mets.
The Notes…
The Mets are 18-5 in RFK Stadium since the Nationals relocated in 2005.
Wily Mo Pena, who was acquired by the Nationals on Friday, is expected to join the team tonight.

…enjoy…and as always, let’s go mets…
Jose Reyes stole his 60th base Thursday night, making him the first infielder to nab 60 or more in three straight seasons
since the modern stolen base rule came into effect in 1898,
according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
In the New York Times, Ben Shpigel discusses the Mets bullpen and looks at the job Jorge Sosa has done since moving to the bullpen. Sosa is 2-0 with a 1.88 earned run average in 14 1/3 innings in relief.
Sosa tells Shpigel he’s able to throw as hard as he can in a relief role, where he would normally need to conserve his energy when starting.
…sosa had his rough patch starting, but had a great string of games, and has been outstanding since moving to the pen…taken as a whole, sosa has done a superb job this year, and while fans may want to get on omar for trading away heath bell and brian bannister, they should also remember how much omar’s acquisition of sosa has meant to this year’s team…
…kudos to rick peterson as well, who undoubtedly has had a positive influence on sosa…
On MLB.com, check out the spectacular double play made by Jose Reyes, Luis Castillo, and Damion Easley in last night’s game against the Nationals.
Prior to last night’s win, Ramon Castro told reporters that his arthritic back is not improving and could land him on the disabled list, retroactive to August 13.
…weird, since Willie Randolph told reporters that castro could have been available to pinch hit…
…here we go again, by the way, as the Mets continue to play short-handed on the bench, as players recover from sore knees, backs and the flu…
…at any rate, paging Sandy Alomar Jr., grab your gear…
In his second rehab start for the Low-A GCL Mets, Endy Chavez played seven innings in left field with a double in three at-bats.
…it appears that the plan appears is to get endy a day off, another start or two in florida, re-examine the hammy, and them move forward from there…
Ambiorix Burgos will continue his minor-league rehab in Triple-A New Orleans.
In his firsr three minor-league rehab appearances, Burgos had not allowed a run in four innings for the Low-A GCL Mets. However, last night in Low-A, he allowed two runs in one inning.
…i suspect he will re-join the Mets in september when rosters expand…he could actually end up being a good addition…
