Pedro Martinez will make his third minor-league rehab start tonight for the St. Lucie Mets.
Rick Peterson and Guy Conti will be in attendance.
…from what i can gather, the plan is to have pedro throw more than 80 pitches in the actual game, instead of finishing up
in the bullpen as he had done in his previous starts…if all goes well, and he feels good over the next day or so, his next start will be this weekend…some have said he could pitch for the Brooklyn Cyclones, but it would be a road game in Vermont, which makes zero sense to me…instead, i would guess he’d pitch for Triple-A New Orleans, who will be home this weekend, or just stay in st. lucie…
SNY will air tonight’s game between the Cyclones and Staten Island Yankees.
…that’s nice and all, but, am i the only one who’d rather be watching the st. lucie game…i understand the wilpons own the Cyclones, so, there you go…but, i sense most fans would rather keep tabs on pedro…oh well…
Since starting his minor-league rehab assignment last week in Port St. Lucie, Mets OF Endy Chavez is batting .545
in 11 at-bats with five RBI, one double, three runs scored and a walk.
…the buzz from shea suggests that endy could return to the Mets as early as tomorrow, but most certainly before this weekend…either way, when he comes up, Anderson Hernandez will likely get sent back to triple-a…
Yesterday, Orlando Hernandez allowed two runs on three hits while walking four, and striking out four, through seven innings in a win over the Nationals.
His 3.09 ERA is seventh best in the National League.
The Mets have won 10 of his last 11 starts. They are 15–6 during his 21 starts this season.
…no whammies, no whammies, no whammies…stop…
Willie Randolph, talking to reporters after the game…
“El Duque is always impressive when he’s on his game…He’s just an outstanding pitcher, and when he’s settled in to his rhythm there’s no one better.”
…he’s been remarkable…well, well worth the two-year deal, at this point, which many people were confused by…the thing is, despite how hard he works to take care of himself, i still live in paranoia that he is inches away from some bizarre injury…the Mets need him so much…he’s such a bulldog out on the mound…he guts it out as well as any one, and he’s exactly the type of spirit and style that this team has often missed at times…
El Duque has allowed three or less runs in 76 percent of his starts this season, while pitching into the sixth inning during 18 of his 21 starts.
In the nine games since returning from the disabled list, Carlos Beltran us batting .294 with five HR and 13 RBI.
Prior to yesterday’s game, the Mets put Damion Easley on the 15–day disabled list and promoted 2B Anderson Hernandez from Triple-A New Orleans.
