Today, at his Mets Minor-League Report, Toby Hyde notes that Mike Pelfrey missed his last start due to ‘fatigue.’
Also, according to Hyde, Joe Smith is nursing tendonitis in his elbow, and has not pitched in six days, while Ambiorix Burgos ‘felt something wrong in his elbow,’ and was removed from his last outing on Friday.
…i love toby’s work in general, but when he’s working at one of their facilities he’s coverage is outstanding…
…great job this season, toby…

Mr. Met is a nominee for the Mascot Hall Of Fame.
Howard Megdal at ESPN discusses the chances of Mr. Met being chosen over the likes of Hugo The Hornet, and The Mariner Moose.
Megdal comically writes:
retire, the franchise will undoubtedly honor him as it has Tom Seaver, Gil
Hodges and Casey Stengel.”

Tagged Regis Courtemanche |Phillies OF Aaron Rowand, on tonight’s series against the Mets, as quoted by the Post-Gazette…
“There’s no doubt it’s a big series. It’s time to put up or shut up. We have 33 games left. We have to step up and leave it all out there.”
The Phillies are 5-6 against the Mets this season.
In the first inning, Lastings Milledge motored from first on a double by David Wright.
Mets third-base coach Sandy Alomar initially waved Milledge in, but then put up the ‘stop sign’with Milledge just a few steps from third. Milledge rounded third, tried to stop, but was running too hard and was tagged out mid-way up the base line.
Milledge, as quoted by the New York Post…
“I saw him wave and then I saw him stop me at the last minute. I couldn’t brake. I was running too hard to stop. I saw the stop sign at the last minute. It was a miscommunication. I was rounding third, he stopped me at the last minute. I couldn’t brake and get back.”
As of right now, the following players are on pace to finish the season with these statistics…
| Player | AVG | HR | RBI | SB | OBP |
| David Wright | 0.320 | 30 | 110 | 35 | 0.415 |
| Matt Holliday | 0.335 | 30 | 130 | 11 | 0.390 |
| Miguel Cabrera | 0.320 | 37 | 115 | 1 | 0.400 |
| Albert Pujols | 0.320 | 40 | 110 | 2 | 0.420 |
| Prince Fielder | 0.280 | 50 | 120 | 0 | 0.375 |
…in other words, i think it is safe to begin speaking of wright when discussing potential MVP candidates…if the league values power, then pujols and prince will win…if they value balance, then wright or holliday should get it…
…as case could certainly be made for D’Backs RHP Brandon Webb, who is on pace to go 17–9 with a 2.60 ERA, while leading his team to a division title…however, pitchers rarely win…
Tonight, the Mets begin a four-game series against the Phillies in Citizen’s Bank Park, followed by three games against the Braves in Atlanta.
David Wright, on the match-ups, as quoted by Kristie Ackert in the Daily News…
“(This) week is not going to make or break our season by any means, but we need to go in there and prove we can beat the best teams in the National League East…
“We haven’t proven that on a consistent basis yet this year. It is important we go in there and prove not only to ourselves but also to the top teams in the National League that we are for real and we can beat them – especially at their place…
“We put ourselves in a situation where we want to be. We don’t have to scoreboard-watch. We don’t have to rely on anyone else to help us out. We just have to accomplish what’s in front of us and we still need to show we can consistently beat those teams.”
…honestly, i don’t know that it matters…i mean, they’re up six and have yet to consistently beat any one, so i don’t know that it’s actually a requirement…however, if they do play well against the Phillies and Braves this week it will be nice to see, i’ll feel better about the team when dreaming of october, and it would certainly put an end to this pennant race…
Lastings Milledge, on whether it is important to beat the Braves and Phillies, as quoted by the New York Post…
“They can have our number all they want. If they don’t win the division they’re not going to get into the playoffs, and we don’t have to worry about it.”
For the second time in his career, Jose Reyes has stolen at least one base in six straight games – tying the team record he shares with 1991’s Vince Coleman.
…well, earlier this week, jose erased the need to ever mention Roger Cedeno again…let’s see if he can do the same with vince coleman…
…as of last night, the word from Shea Stadium had been that Carlos Delgado, Paul Lo Duca and Luis Castillo will all likely be in tonight’s lineup against
the Phillies…
…if you substitute Lastings Milledge for Shawn Green, since milledge is now clearly the starter, and sub castillo for Jose Valentin, who is out for the season, i believe this is the first time since April that the team will play with it’s A-Team lineup all at the same time…
As of yesterday, the Mets have exceeded three million in attendance for the fourth time in club history.
Pedro Martinez will make his fourth minor-league rehab start for Single-A St. Lucie tonight in Jupiter, FL.
During Sunday night’s game, while talking to ESPN, Willie Randolph said Martinez will likely get one more rehab start after tonight and re-join the team during the first week of September.
…either that, meaning against the Astros at home next week, or he’ll get Brian Lawrence’s start on Saturday in Atlanta…at this point, it has to be one of the two…
