This Friday, August 31, MetsBlog.com will host MetsBlog Night at McFadden’s, which is located on 42nd St. and Second Avenue in New York City.
The bar will feature the Mets game against the Braves in Atlanta, with available audio from SNY’s broadcast, as well as an optional, but recommended $20 drink special, i.e., unlimited domestic drought beer through the game.
…so far, i believe anthony, regis, zoe, and other Mets bloggers will be joining me, and i hope you do, as well…
…the buzz around the Mets seems to be that Endy Chavez will finally be activated from the disabled list, officially joining the team for the first time in 11 weeks…
…as i have been saying for the last week, the odds on favorites to be demoted are Brian Lawrence or Aaron Sele…a case can be made for either pitcher, frankly…
…so, i totally missed this last night,
but, apparently, David Wright was ejected from the game while heading in to the bottom of the eighth inning…
Early in the game, Wright struck out looking on a high fastball, that should have been called a ball, but wasn’t.
…he was not happy, standing in the ump’s face, pointing, jawing at him, but never getting tossed…
Wright struck out two more times in the game, all looking.
…from what i can gather, while on the bench, throughout most of the game, any time a player k’d, wright kept laying in to the home-plate umpire, C.B. Bucknor, who then tossed him…
Wright, talking to reporters after the game…
“It was just a few disagreements over the course of nine innings…I saw things a little differently than he did. I said what I had to say and it’s over with…Like I said, it wasn’t one or two things, it was was stuff that happened over the course of the game. He’s thrown guys out before, and I’ve been thrown out before.”
Willie Randolph, on Wright, talking to reporters after last night’s loss to the Phillies…
“CB was looking in our dugout, and I guess he didn’t like what he saw…You know, he thought he had a big zone tonight and that’s all. David doesn’t get frustrated too often, or whatever. CB is a fine umpire, but he had a big zone for both sides and I guess David just felt like it was a little bit more on the other side of what he’d like…It’s part of the game, it’s no big deal.”
Prior to last night’s game, Mets GM Omar Minaya told reporters that Duaner Sanchez will not pitch in the major leagues this season. His next step will be to pitch in winter ball this off-season.
Also, according to Minaya, Ambiorix Burgos will travel to New York to have his elbow examined by team doctors.
Yesterday, at his Mets Minor-League Report, Toby Hyde noted that Burgos ‘felt something wrong in his elbow,’ and was removed from his last outing on Friday.
…what does tightness in the forearm followed by elbow pain equal…that’s right, Tommy John Surgery…that’s my bet…ugh…
In his first minor-league rehab game since breaking a bone in his hand, Mets OF Carlos Gomez went hitless in three at-bats, including a strike out, while playing left-field for Single-A St. Lucie last night.
Last night, pitching for the St. Lucie Mets in Jupiter, Pedro Martinez threw 88 pitches, 52 for strikes, he struck out four batters while allowing no runs and five hits and two walks through six innings.
He needed just 18 pitches to get through the fourth and fith innings.
…from what i can gather, pedro topped out at 88 mph, while working mostly in the 85–mph range…
In the sixth inning, St. Lucie manager Frank Cacciatore asked Martinez if he wanted to walk the No. 8 hitter to set up a double play. According to the AP, “Martinez smiled and politely refused.”
Instead, he struck out the batter, then induced an inning-ending pop up.
Martinez, on the situation with Cacciatore, while talking to reporters after the game…
“The game means something for the them…I said, ‘No, this is exactly what I want, this is the situation I’ve been dreaming of,’ to actually make pitches and test myself and that’s what I told him…
“I said I’ll go right after him and see if I could pull a strike out from experience and I did that…That’s the type of situation I want to get out of, I want to test myself. I want to see if I’m able to execute at that moment…I’m very pleased with how everything went.”
Martinez, on the overall outing…
“I felt like I used all of my pitches, and it seems to be coming along really well. At first I felt a little of out whack, coming off an off day, but I got everything out of the way and I got to throw a few more pitches and work on the things that I had to work on, like the cutter and backing it up and throwing breaking balls and some change-ups, I
made some adjustments…I’m not trying to do over do it, whenever velocity is needed I will probably click it…if it doesn’t come, we’ll just get by with whatever I have…
“(It’s tough to gauge my confidence) without having a test in the big leagues. But, I’ll tell you what: you’ve seen every improvement I’ve made since I picked up a ball in Port St. Lucie to throw off a mound until now. It seems like everything is progressively going up. I’m hoping to do the same thing in the big leagues and if everything goes as it has I am pretty sure I’m going to have more success…
“If [the Mets] feel like they need me, let’s say somebody gets hurt, I’m pretty sure they’ll take their chances with me. But, at this stage, I don’t think they do. I think they’re going good enough to give me another outing down here.”
…my guess is that he makes another start for st. lucie, i mean, what’s the point in leaving the facility now…in that start, the goal will be to reach 100 pitches, i would think…then, it should be up to Shea Stadium in the first week of September to face the Astros…

made some adjustments…I’m not trying to do over do it, whenever velocity is needed I will probably click it…if it doesn’t come, we’ll just get by with whatever I have…
