…if you have not noticed, and i know you have, MetsBlog, the website, has been very shaky of late…the website loads way, way too slowly, the comment’s section is a mess, the standings are stagnant, and so on…basically, MetsBlog has grown to big for its britches…what was once a solid solution for a small blog, is no longer working for a site that logs more than one million hits per month…
…so, i am switching servers, designs, platforms, etc, which will make MetsBlog more slick, quicker, reliable, and easier and more enjoyable to read…
…this switch should be complete by the end of next week, at which time it will look and function much, much better…however, in the meantime, life here on MetsBlog may feel a bit awkward…the standings may not update, images may not load properly, and so on, as i essentially move this site from one house to another…so, please be patient…frankly, you will most likely never know this switch is happening, but if things seem strange you now know why…
…this is a good thing, i’m very, very excited, and i thank you in advance for being patient during this long-overdue upgrade…
Mets 3B David Wright is on pace to be the first player in the history of baseball to hit at least .300, with a .385 OBP, along with 30 HR, 35 SB, 110 runs scored, 110 RBI, and 35 doubles.
…he’s the definition of well-rounded…
Meanwhile, at his blog for the New York Post, Joel Sherman continued his Awards Wednesday series.
According to Sherman, if the season ended today, Wright would win the National League MVP.
As noted yesterday, the Mets announced that Carlos Delgado will miss at least one week with a strained right hip flexor.
Over the last nine days, Delgado is hitting .406 with four HR and 10 RBI in 32 at-bats.
David Wright, regarding Delgado, while talking to reporters after yesterday’s game…
“When he does get on track he has these injuries. I think that’s part of the reason maybe he’s scuffled a little, because he has been banged up. He hasn’t let people know how banged up he is. He’s going out there playing hurt on a routine, daily basis…
“I’m not making excuses for him, but I think a little bit of that has to do with why his numbers are a little down this season. It seems like every time he starts getting on a roll, starts getting hot, he runs into a fence trying to catch a foul ball or he takes an awkward swing and hurts his hip.”
…i love when people give an excuse, but start by saying, ‘it’s not an excuse.’…yes, it is…and it’s okay, it’s a legitimate excuse, assuming it is correct…
…i mean, wright sort of has a point…see below…
In the days prior to hyperextending his knee in early August, Delgado hit .302 with 10 RBI in 13 games.
However, he hit just .143 in the first 28 at-bats after returning from the knee injury.
…it’s like he just can’t get in to any sort of rhythm…
…as i have been writing all season, at this point, he is what he is, which, if healthy, is a .260 hitter, who’ll hit 25 to 30 HR in bunches, and drive in 80 to 100 runs in a slow-drip kind of way…but he’s not going to carry a ball club…i think he’s now a supporting hitter, you know, fifth or sixth in the order, adding protection for a younger, more consistently powerful run producer, like David Wright or Carlos Beltran…
Delgado is on pace to hit .250, with 25 HR and 90 RBI.
Mets OF Carlos Gomez continued his minor-league rehab in New Orleans last night, as the
Triple-A Zephyrs began the playoffs last night.
Gomez has been on the DL with a broken left hand.
In a tie game, during the bottom of the ninth, Zephyrs 2B David Newhan walked, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored the winning run on a single by catcher Robinson Cancel.

“When he does get on track he has these injuries. I think that’s part of the reason maybe he’s scuffled a little, because he has been banged up. He hasn’t let people know how banged up he is. He’s going out there playing hurt on a routine, daily basis…
