eMailbag: Post-Season Competition

by Matthew Cerrone on September 12th, 2007 at 12:22 pm

Morgan sent in the following e-mail, asking…

“On ESPN Radio this morning, Mike and Mike were talking about how they Mets would HAVE to be pulling for the Phillies to take the wild card so that, if we hold onto the best record in the NL, we get the NL Central winner in the NLDS, meaning Arizona and the Phillies could wail on each other for a round before we have to worry about them…

“I know, it’s assuming a lot, but what’s your feel on this?  Or what is the feel around the team and local fans?  Personally, while I’d be happy to knock out the Phillies, I wouldn’t mind them watching the playoffs from home.”

…honestly, morgan, last year i was hoping the Cardinals would make the playoffs instead of the red-hot Astros, because st. louis had been playing so badly…

…and we all know how that turned out…

…i’d bring up the Dodgers in 1988, but, frankly, i still can’t talk about it…

…in other words, be careful of what you wish for…

…actually, i just hope the Mets are playing their best baseball in October…if they do that, i really don’t think it will matter who or where they are playing…
