Willie Randolph, while joking around during his interview with WFAN this afternoon, said…
“Hey, guys, I just want you to know that if you see any of my coaches with cameras in the dugout, we’re just taking pictures of the new stadium, okay.”
…excellent…even willie is making jokes about hoodie-wearing Bill Belichick, the cheater…
Randolph told the show’s hosts that he hopes to get Pedro Martinez up around the 100–pitch mark in his next start.
When asked about Carlos Delgado, Randolph acknowledged being ‘a bit concerned,’ noting that Delgado will try to ride the stationary bike today.
The fourth starter in the post-season, assuming the team gets to October, will be determined mostly on who and where the team is playing, Randolph explained.
Randolph, on whether he feels David Wright should win the MVP, while talking to WFAN, said…
“He has stepped up huge for me this year…But, I try to shy away from these types of predictions, because I try to teach these kids that while personal goals are nice, if we take care of business (as a team) then all that stuff falls in to place.”
…great motto, as a manager…but, as a fan, i still think that if wright gets 30–30 and the Mets win the division, assuming the Brewers and Phillies do not, wright has to win…
Remember, Wright is the only player in the National League who is batting over .300, with at least 25 HR, 30 stolen bases, 90 runs scored and 90 RBI.
Also, he is on pace to be the first player in the history of baseball to hit at least .300, with a .385 OBP, along with 30 HR, 35 SB, 110 runs scored, 110 RBI, and 35 doubles.
Lastly, Randolph had the following to say regarding the up-coming series at home against the Phillies…
“No doubt (we want some payback). You don’t let a team in your division come in and slap you around…We need to let them know this our division.”
…see the hammer, drop the hammer…

alright willie thats what i like to hear, at least he knows when to stop the “no series is more important than the other” stuff….i mean youd think hes been through this pennant race stuff before.
LOVE that last quote from Willie.
It’s not the 30-30 that is impressive, it’s the .315/.400/.550-30-30-100-100 that puts him in such heady company.
And its the fact that he had an awful April…….he is the MVP hands down IMHO.
Matt…..jeze…Jets fans are really bitter about the Pats huh? Oh well, winning it all this year will be even more sweeter as the rest of the league complains. And it starts by whipping up on SD on Sunday. Enjoy a PO’ed Ravens team…make sure you cheer that backup QB really loud and proud.
Anyway…it’s not time to argue about football until after the World Series……LETS GO METS
The supposed “Best Team”in the NFL should not have to cheat to win. No team should. The league should have taken care of this before this week. What the Pats did is unacceptable to football and to fans everywhere.
I hate the Patriots Poster Boy of the NFL image and I am still upset about the way they treated Bledsoe.
I can’t wait to see that team fail.
willie knows when and how to push the team. in june, you don’t get too excited about a series or game. down the stretch in september with a lead. that’s when you finish off the opposition.
love the emphasis on team over individual accomplishment.
Also a good point…….
I don’t hear anyone complaining now that we can’t beat the Braves. We beat them when it matters….2 yrs in a row now they’re gonna miss the playoffs…
Alright, I dont consider myself one of these “chicken little” Mets fans who love to bash the team every time we lose a game. I know we have this division in the bag, and we are the best team in the National League right now. However, is anybody else really worried about not gettign Delgado back at full strength for the playoffs? I know he’s had a miserable season, but he was HUGE for us in the playoffs last year. I know I would feel much better about our chances at the World Series with him healthy, and I’m wondering why more people aren’t feeling “a bit concerned” like Willie.
I hope he’s back by the playoffs…..the lineup is better with him in it. If hes not able to go, then I’m confident in the other guys ability to pick up the slack.
I agree. Despite Delgado’s struggles this year, we’ll need him. At minimum, his presence in the batting order is important. Even if he’s not going well, pitchers have to be careful not to thow a mistake becauise they’ll know it could turn into a 3-run homer.
