I have received several e-mails, similar to the following, over the last few days…
“In the section for posting comments below your name and e-mail is URI is that a typo for URL? Also what is the purpose of typing my name and e-mail?”
…initially, i, too, thought URI was an error by whomever initially designed the template i am using…however, as Joe points out in this post’s comment section, it stands for Uniform Resource Identifier, which you can learn more about here…
…as for the e-mail address, if you had a question and wanted people to contact you, you can enter your e-mail, i guess…otherwise, it is not necessary…you may leave out all that information if you choose, and your comment will still post…
“I’ve Tried several times to retrieve my new password in order to comment on the new site. I have received no replys or updates, its been several days waiting.”
…i am unable to help you with this…the comments are controlled by WordPress.com, so my suggestion would be to contact someone there…random people have made similar complaints to me, but since i have no control over how or who gets a password, there is not much i can do…however, if you stumble on an answer, please, please let me know so i can better advise other readers…best of luck…

The Associated Press reports that the final regular-season game at Shea Stadium has been scheduled to be played on Sept. 28, 2008 against the Florida Marlins.
…this of course doesn’t take into account any postseason games, so i hope the actual last game doesn’t take place until late in october.…
Tagged Regis Courtemanche, Shea Stadium |…the Mets have pulled away in the division race, and it’s a feeling that i can definitely get used to…i know that the Mets won the NL East in 2006, but to do it for a second-straight season is hopefully
grooming younger fans to be less skeptical than what most of us have become over the years…
…there is an excitement at Shea these last few days, and last night was no exception…minus a Guillermo Mota sighting – he who shall not be named, as i will now refer to him – the place almost had a playoff atmosphere to it…perhaps it was because our ‘rival’ was in town, but i think it’s more than that, i think we finally believe again… …the ‘tomahawk chop’ has ironically become fun to sing when at Shea…the changing of the guard has begun, and hopefully the Mets never look back…
Tagged Regis Courtemanche |Last night, Shawn Green had three hits and one RBI, including a big hit to knock in the winning run during the eighth inning.
Since Willie Randolph talked with Green, to tell him Lastings Milledge would get the bulk of playing time in right field, Green is is batting .333 with 11 RBI in 20 games since August 13.
Randolph, on Green, while talking to reporters after last night’s win, said…
“He did a great job of staying back on that pitch, and hitting a nice pitch up
the middle. He’s has some key hits for us lately, he’s playing well getting some work at first and in the outfield. He’s very valuable.”
…not to mention he has looked very good while playing first base…i suspect he is just comfortable with who he is, and what his role is, and his succeeding…good for you, shawn, and happy new year…

Tagged SNY |John Maine, on last night’s win, while talking to reporters after the game…
“It’s always big against Atlanta, and the Phillies lost. It’s a good night for everybody. Against the Braves, I think it’s a good mental victory, as well.”
After losing eight of 12 games to the Braves to start the season, the Mets won five of the final six to split the season series at nine each.
…if you recall, Willie Randolph made a big stink to reporters around the all-star break, when pressed on the idea that his team could not beat the Braves…willie’s response had essentially been that a) it was a long season, and b) for all we know, the Mets would flip that around, just as they did, in the second half…fair enough, willie, but as a fan, you can’t help but understand our anxiety and irritation with these good ol’ boys…
John Smoltz, as quoted by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, following last night’s game…
“We’re not as good as them. They won every game they had to win, close games, and that’s why they’re where they’re at.”
…i love it…and, thank you Captain Obvious…we appreciate your support…now, go back to playing golf…
Tagged Willie Randolph |Carlos Beltran, talking to reporters, when asked if he is excited to see the magic number drop to 11…
“The reality is, we’re not thinking about that. You know, we’re just going day-by-day, and game-by-game. We just need to continue to play hard, and it will come.”
…you can cut and paste this in to every response, from every player, on this same subject from now until the division is officially won…
Last night, Carlos Beltran singled to lead off the eighth inning and quickly stole second base.
Moises Alou grounded to third, and Beltran ran on 3B Yunel Escobar‘s throw to first and took third base.
…it was a head’s up play…he did a great job of hesitating, without actually losing momentum…he was eyeing third the entire time…
Willie Randolph, on the play, while talking to reporters after last night’s win…
“Excellent base running. He’s instinctive, he knows how to make things happen…You have to take a chance there. He knew exactly where he was on the field, great jump…Mo rolled over a little bit, but getting in scoring position, getting closer to third is a big play there for us.”
Beltran, on the play…
“I was trying to be aggressive, but at the same time I didn’t want to get thrown out…It was a perfect play, because it was a ball down the line and he didnt really look to second, he was set to go to first.”
…we talk about beltran’s bat and glove a lot, but he is also an outstanding base runner, which is a tool that goes under-appreciated at times…
Tagged Moises Alou |In relief of John Maine, Jorge Sosa retired three of four batters to face him in the seventh.
Aaron Heilman got the first two batters out in the eighth inning, but then walked a batter
and allowed a single to Mark Teixeira. Pedro Feliciano entered to face the left-handed hitting Brian McCann, who walked.
Guillermo Mota relieved Feliciano, and allowed a game-tying single through the hole between shortstop and third.
Mota struck out Andruw Jones to end the inning.
Willie Randolph, on the overall bullpen, while talking to reporters after last night’s game…
“We need to do a better of job of, you know, when you get a team in a situation where you’ve got two outs and an 0–2 count you’ve got to put people away. Obviously, Aaron has been throwing the ball well, and Feliciano, it is very uncharacteristic of him to walk guys…You can’t walk guys in that situation…
“They’re a good hitting ballclub, but we’ve got to do a better job overall of coming in and going after people and not letting that happen. You can’t let that happen in a situation like that.”
…honestly, i think he’s talking more about mota, though the message certainly applies to every one…i mean, he actually goes out of his way to mention how well aaron has been throwing, and he essentially gives feliciano a pass on precedent…but, he never mentions mota…
Mota, on the situation, when talking to reporters…
“In that situation, I don’t just want a strike out, I want a ground ball or a fly ball and get out of the inning. I thought I made a good pitch, but he hit a ground ball that went through the hole. So, it’s a base hit.”
…he has a point…to his credit, he got the ground ball…a few more feet over, and the inning is over, and the lead is protected…it’s not like he walked the guy, or gave up a double in the gap…
…nevertheless, he is totally incapable of executing a big pitch in a big spot…yes, it was a ground ball that unfortunately got through the hole…but the pitch was supposed to be an outside change-up, and it sailed back over the plate, because he has no command of that pitch…he did last season…he does not this season…
Randolph, on the crowd booing Mota, while talking to reporters after the game…
“He shouldn’t get caught up in the crowd. The crowd’s gonna react…For the team, and for us, he just needs to get over the hump, and, obviously, when he gets in those situations it helps build your confidence. I’m gonna keep going to him. I mean, he still has some of the best stuff in our bullpen and he needs to continue to work to be more consistent. And, again, right now, he’s just going through one of those situations where he can’t seem to get a break. But, that’s gonna turn around for him, it’s gonna change.”
…good for willie, he’s so supportive, but i doubt he honestly believes what he is saying…i mean, he has to say that…i will never understand how some fans expect him to hit these interviews with brutal honesty, as if that would be the wise way to motivate his player…at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what willie says in these interviews…they’re meaningless, to some extent…what matters is how he physically handles the player…and that’s where the real gripe should be…
…look, i understand the Phillies were losing 11–0, and the division is more or less over…and so i understand bringing in mota last night, because a) he was the third option that inning, so who else was coming in, b) he did get the ground ball he needed, it just found a hole, and c) if successful, it could help the pitcher’s confidence…
…but, again, like i said a few weeks ago, at some point, this needs to stop…maybe not now, because of the division lead, and maybe not tomorrow, but if mota has not ‘figured it out,’ or is not ‘over the hump,’ sooner that later, he needs to just fade in to the distance…i mean, there are only 18 games left on the year…he’s had plenty of time to get straight, and the clock is quickly ticking here…
…i haven’t started thinking about post-season rosters, but if one of John Maine or Oliver Perez will be out in the pen, then mota must be left at home…he just hasn’t earned a spot…it’s that simple…willie and company can talk all they want about how he still has good stuff, bad luck, etc, but at the end of the day he is not getting the job done…and there is no room for error in October…
Hernandez allowed eight runs in three-plus innings against Atlanta on Tuesday night.
Prior to last night’s game, Orlando Hernandez told reporters that, although he felt fine after Tuesday’s game, yesterday he felt a bit of pain in his foot.
Willie Randolph categorized the pain as ‘regular soreness,’ when talking to reporters, adding that El Duque is still set to make his next scheduled start on Tuesday in Washington DC.
…i was concerned about this last night, but the more i learn about it i realize this is not that big of a deal…
…it appears he will get three more starts before October…so, hold your breath…
…by the way, i believe this is exactly what Ken Davidoff was writing about in Newsday yesterday…
