Quote: We’re Not as Good as the Mets
John Maine, on last night’s win, while talking to reporters after the game…
“It’s always big against Atlanta, and the Phillies lost. It’s a good night for everybody. Against the Braves, I think it’s a good mental victory, as well.”
After losing eight of 12 games to the Braves to start the season, the Mets won five of the final six to split the season series at nine each.
…if you recall, Willie Randolph made a big stink to reporters around the all-star break, when pressed on the idea that his team could not beat the Braves…willie’s response had essentially been that a) it was a long season, and b) for all we know, the Mets would flip that around, just as they did, in the second half…fair enough, willie, but as a fan, you can’t help but understand our anxiety and irritation with these good ol’ boys…
John Smoltz, as quoted by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, following last night’s game…
“We’re not as good as them. They won every game they had to win, close games, and that’s why they’re where they’re at.”
…i love it…and, thank you Captain Obvious…we appreciate your support…now, go back to playing golf…
