The way they described it on the Nats radio call (what you get on XM), Pena looked for it, but couldn’t find it. He did pull some padding off the wall, just not in the right spot.

SO if the rule is he has to make an effort to retrieve it, then he did. He certainly could have gotten it if he had looked in the right place!

I think they talked about this on the radio. I was only half listening, but I think he will be taking it off. I seem to remember hearing that he doesn’t hit Willis well anyway.

I guess he’s gotta do what he’s gotta do.

When I say that the rule “should be” I meant that’s what they thought the rule was. That’s how they understood it from other stadiums, particularly Wrigley.

…oh, and hat’s off to Gary Cohen, who, without skipping a beat, immediately knew that when a ball gets stuck in the padding it is a ground-rule double…nice, buddy…

Well, on WFAN, Tom & Howie were discussing this rule and they both agreed that the rule should be that the player has to attempt to retrieve the ball. If it doesn’t come loose, then it’s a double (could be triple – ump’s discretion, but it’s always a double), but if it comes loose then it’s in play.

Of course, I had radio only, so I didn’t see what sort of effort Pena made to get the ball.

Tampa Bay actually has the best strip bar scene in Florida. Even better than Miami. But that’s just my opinion. No wonder the DRays suck year after year. :)

Actually i love watching the Dodgers, Cardinals, Phillies, and Braves lose too. It goes with the territory.
