Quote: Alou Prays for the Best

by Matthew Cerrone on September 20th, 2007 at 8:16 am

Moises Alou left Tuesday’s game with a sore quad muscle.

Last night, he played, and had three hits, two runs scored and an RBI.

…from what i can gather, he was removed from last night’s game to give the quad a bit of rest, and for defensive purposes, i.e., better safe than sorry…

Alou, on whether he would play or not, talking to reporters before last night’s win…

“I would have taken the day off [if this wasn’t such a close pennant race].  I have to be really careful, [if my quad] goes, there goes my season, and I’m aware of that.  If an infield hit means the game, I will go for it.  I won’t ruin the season, but I’ll give it a try and pray for the best.”

By the way, Alou is batting .344 in 282 at-bats.  He is 189 at-bats short of qualifying for a batting title.

Willie Randolph, on Alou, after the game…

“Well, that’s Moises.  He’s a gamer.  He wants to play.  He understands his responsibility to the team, and he loves to compete.  I had to watch him and get him out of there when I could tonight, but he’s one of the better hitters in the game, very dangerous and he’s hot…Hopefully we can keep him healthy.”
