preGame: Mets vs. Nationals (Game 3)
By D.J. Short - Sep 26, 2007 6:17 pm

The Game

The first-place Mets (87–70) look to salvage one vs. the Nationals (71-87) this evening at Shea Stadium, starting at 7:10 pm EDT.

The Lineup

The Pitchers

Philip Humber makes his first major league start for the Mets tonight. In two relief appearances this season, Humber has allowed a run over three innings. In 25 starts with Triple-A New Orleans this season, the 24-year old Humber was 11-9 with a 4.27 ERA. He was fifth in the Pacific Coast League with 120 strikeouts. Opponents hit .244 vs. Humber — lefties hit .230 while righties hit .256.

Mike Bacsik (5-8, 4.76 ERA) starts for the Nats. Bacsik hasn’t started since September 11th at Florida, when he allowed five runs on eight hits (including three home runs) over 2.2 IP. Righties are hitting .288 with 17 homers off the southpaw this season. In three appearances against the Mets this season (one start, two in relief) Bacsik is 1-0 with a 1.74 ERA (2 ER allowed in 10.1 IP).

The Notes

The Mets have lost four out of their last five games against the Nationals. The Mets are in danger of dropping six straight at home for the first time since the 2004 season.

Moises Alou carries his club-record 29-game hitting streak into tonight’s game.

Carlos Gomez has just one hit in 13 at-bats (.077) this month. He hit a sacrifice fly on Monday.

Five of Austin Kearns’ 16 home runs this season have come against the Mets, including one in each of the first two games of this series.

    Let’s go Mets, please.

  2. Maddogcf says:

So, I want you to get up now. I want all of you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to get up right now and go to the window, open it, and stick your head out and yell, LETS-GO-METS! LETS-GO METS! LETS-GO-METS!

  3. metsrbest says:

    And Milledge isn’t playing because……………….?????????

  4. metfan2486 says:

WHY IS GOMEZ PLAYING OVER MILLEDGE?! ABSURD! EVEN GREEN IS BETTER THAN GOMEZ AT HITTING LEFTIES.

    • mdemaio says:

Giving a rookie pitcher the best defensive outfield gives him the confidence to pitch to contact. Anything you can do to settle Humber down is a good thing – it’s a smart move.

  5. Darryl Strawberry says:

Isn’t the suspension over for Milledge? I hate when we face soft-tossing left handers.

  6. mets86 says:

why no milledge?……… whats gomez done to deserve a start?

  7. stickguy says:

Same question. Is Lastings being “punished”? Because Gomez sure isn’t out hitting him, and they need to pull out all the stops to put the best team on the field.

If this continues, or they do something stupid like carry Gomez over LM on a (theoretical) PS roster, then that pretty much seals the deal that he will be moved for $.50 on the dollar in the off season. Then go to another team and turn into Sheffield!

I really would like to see an honest justification for this.

    • metfan2486 says:

there is no justification. willie played milledge the day after he was suspended and was appealing. if he was punishing him, why would he play him then?

      willie is just on crack

    • Aquadealer says:

Ummmmm Gomez is hittining .077 ? No that cant be it……..

  8. stickguy says:

This just bugs me, earning 2 posts! Forget about Humber, Gomez has no bisiness being on the field in a key game like this, unless it is to pinch run or as a defensive replacement. Starting? No way.

So watch, now that I called him out, he will go 3-4 with 2 doubles!

    Nah, no chance of that…

  9. sundaysection15 says:

whats lastings done so great lately? i am 100% behind lastings for a future OF spot but gomez has balzing speed and can add a little extra to the lineup tonight especially against lefties. green a better start than gomez vs a lefty? come on, metfan2486, THATS absurd. we all know you would rip willie if green started vs a lefty over lastings and gomez

  10. StealYourBase says:

    The time is now.

Come on Mets.. turn it on. let’s go. pump it up. get it in gear. right the ship. straighten it out. and every other catchphrase out there…

just put it in the books.

    Let’s Go Mets.

  11. zen says:

great to read all the excitement about humber tonight.

oh, your complaining about the #8 hitter on a team that’s scoring 7+ runs every night.

    • Aquadealer says:

Yes because apparently we need more than 10 runs to beat the Nats…….Willies a moron

    • Constnza81V2.0 says:

My guess is with a rookie pitcher on the mound who I’m guesing is flyball prone, he wants the best defender in the corner and he’s a righty, so that disqualifies Endy. And you can’t take Alou out right now.

      • Danny says:

Humber is a groundball pitcher by his minor league numbers.

        • Constnza81V2.0 says:

Yeah Ronny said that … but I guess there’s also an indication they want “D” tonight. Whatever, this game won’t be decided by Milledge vs. Gomez.

  12. beltransmole says:

I honestly think we only need to win two games to win the division. I think the Phils will lose one more to Atlanta and one to Washington. If we can win two more games I think we can bring the division home.

  13. surfbum989 says:

GOMEZ IS OBVIOUSLY OVERMATCHED RIGHT NOW,, WHAT IS WILLIE THINKING,, ID RATHER SEE GREEN AGAINST A LEFTY

  14. Wyoming Met says:

LGM!!!!! I dont like the two automatic outs at the bottom of the order. But I think we need to concentrate on limiting Murderers’ Row to less than a 10 spot tonight.

With that said, I dont have to wake up until noon tomorrow, so I can certainly get hammered if the Mets play like crap again.

  15. beltransmole says:

I don’t see the big deal in starting Gomez. Offense isn’t the problem right now. Unless he’s taking the spot of someone who can pitch 9 flawless innings I don’t see what the big deal is.

  16. dannyM says:

I’m calling it now, gomez is gonna go 3 for 4 with 2 key hits.. WILLIE KNOWS!!!

  17. Navy_Mets says:

If all falls right, which really would be a miracle, we could kill two birds with one stone so to speak……

If we win the next two and Atlanta wins the next two we clinch the division tomorrow night against the Cards with Pedro on the mound.

First things first though, win tonight.

    Lets Go Mets!

  18. toomanyuniforms says:

With Humber in there, there has to be a premium on defense. Gomez or Chavez were the best choices, and as b/w the two, he went with the lefty/righty matchup. It’s really a pretty minor issue.

Let’s go Mets — field your positions.

  19. Metphan1986 says:

    10-4 METS WRITE IT DOWN.

  20. kendychavez says:

gomez doesn’t deserve to play major league baseball

  21. metsnfinsfan says:

willie randolph is a frickin joke

how the hell can gomez be starting

  22. Metphan1986 says:

    GOOD CROWD TONIGHT

  23. Metphan1986 says:

    3 1ST PITCH STRIKES

  24. beltran and the mets says:

Im sorry, but the offense hasnt been the problem lately. Id rather have great defense in RF.

  25. kendychavez says:

    HE IS UNHITTABLE

  26. Wyoming Met says:

Very good first inning. 24 outs to go.

  27. slachs says:

First no-no in Mets history. I can feel it!

  28. Metphan1986 says:

    YES

  29. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

this is what we need lets go keep the pressure on them and take it off humber

  30. Metphan1986 says:

    KEEP IT COMING

  31. Wyoming Met says:

    Keep it comin”!!!!!

  32. Constnza81V2.0 says:

Another unclutch solo home run from Moises Alou….

  33. Metphan1986 says:

UNCLUTCH THAT IS HUGE GET A CLUE

  34. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

    well the no-no is gone

  35. Navy_Mets says:

    uh-oh

  36. Metphan1986 says:

    dp

  37. fresnofan says:

2 fly-outs to right field – obviously Milledge couldn’t have handled those – Willie is feelin it.

  38. backinbusiness says:

    humberific!
at least gomez has run relatively direct routes to the ball.

  39. beltran and the mets says:

    I love Willie’s gut…JK!!! DONT KILL ME`

  40. Cerrone says:

By the way, to listen to MetsBlog’s Live inGame Podcast, go to http://www.blogtalkradio.com/metsblog

Yes, the link in this post is not working.

Or, go to the new post I just made on the main page.

  41. backinbusiness says:

gomez, humber, swoon. come on shea crowd, keep on cheering, prop up our boys!

  42. BSMITTYFDNY says:

Does anyone else agree that we should put Humber in the rotation next year, put Gomez in right, and package Pelfrey and Milledge in a deal for pitching this winter? Humber and Gomez seem to have better talent and I am not basing this statement on just tonight. I have read scouting reports and watched them both. What do you guys think?

    • Aquadealer says:

Im all for it if we can send Willie in the deal…..

    • vorp_the_warp says:

I think Milledge has a higher ceiling than Gomez, but prepare for the Humberjack!

    • kendychavez says:

gomez has abysmal plate discipline. you guys get so blinded by his speed. it’s overrated. he hits for no power, you can’t have that from a corner outfielder. he either needs a lot more time in the minors or should be on the trading block.

  43. utahmetsfan says:

Gomez 1-1 and recorded 4 fly outs and the second inning isn’t over yet. Give the kid a chance.

  44. fresnofan says:

think gomez will steal third here?

  45. BSMITTYFDNY says:

I like Gomez alot…I am saying put him in right next year and deal Milledge with Pelfrey.

  46. metsforever says:

It’s about time those bounces went the right way. They usually end up double plays with the Mets

  47. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

    lets go should be mvp

  48. vorp_the_warp says:

Milledge is much better at taking the walk and hits for more power. You could be trading the next Gary Sheffield in favor of a light hitting corner outfielder that doesn’t walk.

  49. metsforever says:

Let’s keep scoring. I don’t have a whole lot of faith in this staff

  50. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

i wouldnt exactly call milledge th enext gary sheffield YET. but as far as gomez vs milledge i def agree with you vorp, milledge is the better all around player at least so far

    • vorp_the_warp says:

lol wasnt really pumping him up as much as it may have sounded – i just mean that yeah his ceiling is way higher. Why even trade either. What pitching is out there to get thats even worth gomez or milledge? nada.

      • BSMITTYFDNY says:

Talk is the Twins might be willing to deal Santana so they get something for him before he leaves in free agency. I know I would part with Pelfrey, Humber, Milledge, and Gomez to get Santana and then try to lock him up with whatever he wants a year. He is one pitcher I would give up the farm for.

      • beltran and the mets says:

Totally agree with that statement. I love how when we talk about potential trades and trade packages we never identify the pitcher. Dont trade either unless we get something worthy in return.

  51. Metphan1986 says:

    do not forget about martinez

  52. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

well i mean youd have to include pelf or humber to get anything worthwhile

    • kendychavez says:

average starting pitching is way too expensive nowadays. i’d hate to lose pelfrey or humber. at their worst projections they’re still serviceable as 3 or 4 starters.. in free agency that could cost a hundred million for the years we’ll get out of them for league minimum

as for as the outfielders, gomez is the most expendable in my view. i don’t care how fast he is. martinez and milledge are way more valuable

  53. The Glider says:

I like Humber’s curve ball. Very nice.

  54. vorp_the_warp says:

Man wouldnt that be something – but somehow I think no matter what the Mets offer from their system, they’d get out bidded by just about most teams in baseball. Especially with some of the young arms the Dodgers have. You think Santana would forego free agency? He’d be a retard to do that.

  55. Navy_Mets says:

No doubt the last two nights the Nats wouldve scored the last two innings, good job Humber!

  56. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

i wish he would get it down just a little though i feel lik ehes living a little dangerously with it

  57. backinbusiness says:

phils up 4-0 keep it going mets.

  58. The Glider says:

Oh Carlos, please teach me to do the Mambo!!!!

  59. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

    is it 2004?

  60. grikke says:

    Hudson is having trouble today.
    Phillies are up 4-0.

  61. kbmccarthy says:

Crow being served shortly for the Beltran haters. Rare or medium?

  62. Metphan1986 says:

    f u chipper

  63. FBones24 says:

Okay, what was all the garbage about Humber having average stuff. I know it’s one start, but he looks more composed than Maine, Pelfry, and Perez put together. Not only that, his curve ball looks pretty nasty. One start, but I’m impressed so far…. Maybe the mets were downplaying Humber and overhyping Pelf purposely…

    …and Beltran is soft…J/K!

    • vorp_the_warp says:

all that is just because Pelfrey throws harder, Humber just has more pitches that he can throw for strikes. That curve’s been his bread and butter for years.

      • FBones24 says:

Regardless of whether the Phillies or Braves are in second place, my hatred for the Phillies has surpassed my hatred for the Braves. I guess these new villains (Rollins, Utley, Howard, etc.) are easier to root against than the usual suspects (Chipper, Smoltz, Andruw, etc.) I know some will disagree, but the transition has taken place for me this year.

        • FBones24 says:

Weird…I did not post this as a reply…sorry.

        • vorp_the_warp says:

and i thought after last year the 80’s Cards rivalry was going to be revived. but you have to figure taht they hate us just as much in Philly after we battered them last year

        • sincekindergarten says:

I have a tad more respect for the Braves and their fans, than I do for the Phillthies and their fans. Why? It’s simple–the Braves were the divisional champs for 14 straight years. The Phillthies haven’t done anything, except be also-rans, those same 14 years. For Rollins to come out and say what he did at the beginning of the season was an insult to the other four teams in the division. I’m sure that the Braves, Mets, Marlins, and Nationals will be more than happy to remind Rollins, and Victorino, and Utley, and Burrell, etc., of this next year.

  64. backinbusiness says:

this is exactly what the mets and met fans needed. LGM.

  65. Metphan1986 says:

    texeria

  66. grikke says:

The Braves have started scoring. Keep it up.

  67. Innis_2_winnis says:

Too bad Beltran is so unclutch, so soft, and so weak when he’s injured. I so wish he’d just do something positive once in a while…

  68. therealsince86 says:

I would use Green right here. Go for the kill. You still have Milledge and Chavez.

  69. Navy_Mets says:

Atlanta right back in it 4-2 come on Braves you win we win every body is happy.

  70. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

eh save green in case god forbid we need him later

  71. BSMITTYFDNY says:

I have tickets to Fri. nights game. Hope I am there again to see them clinch division. Last year was ausome.

  72. kbmccarthy says:

Pitching around Dumbo, I mean Kearns, finally. No reason to pitch to him in this situation.

  73. Teufel Shuffle says:

That’s okay, Humber… just start throwing strikes and you’ll be fine. Don’t want to get into trouble like Pelfrey on Monday…

  74. Navy_Mets says:

Top of the order time to tact on some more runs here.

On a side note, any MLB.TV users see that Ryan Howard commercial? He is in Shea Stadiums dugout! Who the hell authorized that nonsense?

  75. Navy_Mets says:

Ah yes the 6 hole where rallies seem to die!

  76. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

    wow delgado is just lost

    • mdemaio says:

I wonder if his vision is going…he just can’t identify pitches out of the pitcher’s hand anymore. It seems like he’s behind 0-2 every at-bat…

  77. CornellMetsFan says:

i would be devastated if we blew this game- its really not looking good at all

  78. surfbum989 says:

    shoot me please

  79. Navy_Mets says:

    oh no!

  80. surfbum989 says:

dont worry guys the best bullpen in baseball is taking over

  81. CornellMetsFan says:

    what do we do now?

  82. Darryl Strawberry says:

Humber is the same as Pelfrey. Potential, but not ready for the big leagues. I saw this coming from a mile away. This game will be tied at the end of this inning.

  83. Navy_Mets says:

Well when you walk a .166 hitter that’s what you get

  84. beltransmole says:

Smith coming on, oye vey! Here we go again.

  85. surfbum989 says:

    and the trainwreck is starting

  86. Darryl Strawberry says:

Once again it’s like having the script in front of you as your watching a movie.

  87. backinbusiness says:

smith hasn’t given up a run in his last 4 outings. this is a big spot for him to see what he’s made of.

  88. Darryl Strawberry says:

God forbid we get a lead and hold it.

  89. letsgohome says:

I think i could put one out off joe smith

  90. surfbum989 says:

    im going to vomit

  91. CornellMetsFan says:

the nationals have the worst offense in baseball (4.1 runs per game). we have to keep the runner on 2nd from scoring

  92. beltransmole says:

This will most likely end badly.

  93. Amazin Mets says:

Does anyone know why we are going with a 6 man rotation in the last week of the season? Pelfrey, Glavine, Humber, Pedro, Perez, Maine. Why in the final week of the season are we starting both of our inexperienced guys? I know with the injury of El Duque one of them had to pitch, but why both? Why was a 5 man rotation not used in order to maximize the quality of our starters?

  94. surfbum989 says:

    i hate joe smith

  95. kendychavez says:

homerun shane victorino? you suck hudson

  96. surfbum989 says:

why cant we get a god damn out

  97. letsgohome says:

    SMITH IS AWFUL!!!!

  98. blains2000 says:

Just to step back a sec. how much does Delgado suck? I mean he is the biggest non-pitching reason why this team is where it is.

  99. Darryl Strawberry says:

We are getting swept, there is no doubt about it. That all too familar feeling creeps in again.

  100. surfbum989 says:

this is god damn ground hog day the only difference is when i wake up that god damn song isnt playing

  101. CornellMetsFan says:

MY GOD. can this team just lose instead of destroying us every single night.

  102. beltransmole says:

This bullpen sucks. Mets will probably be trailing after this inning is over. There is no one in this pen that can get an out when we need one.

  103. therealsince86 says:

Seriously, why can’t we get these guys out? Who should be in there? I am sure this is Willie’s fault too? But I would not have a clue who to put out there.

    • beltransmole says:

No one. Maybe Fernando Martinez or Carlos Gomez can come in and pitch. They were more valuable than another reliever on July 31.

  104. Navy_Mets says:

How many people are sick right now?

  105. Darryl Strawberry says:

    Phillies win and Mets lose

  106. Navy_Mets says:

    We were up 5-0 WTF?!

    • therealsince86 says:

I have no way to even understand what is going on right now. We want to blame it on everyone but there has to be a reason that we can’t get the Nationals out. They must be stealing the signs or something. No way does a team that hits as poorly as they do, all of a sudden become murderer’s row.

  107. CornellMetsFan says:

i dont even know what we can do. who do we bring in!?

  108. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

    this is ridiculous

  109. metsforever says:

Another F*&^ing disaster. I really am starting to think Philadelphia should just go ahead and win. These guys totally suck.

  110. blains2000 says:

Dear god can’t ONE person on this team pitch? Holy crap!

  111. kendychavez says:

    this is shocking!

  112. KeithsChili says:

When was the last time Joe Smith got someone out….?

  113. Wyoming Met says:

    Haven’t we seen this before?

  114. Navy_Mets says:

I love how our pitchers continue to throw the ball over the plate once they get ahead in the count.

It’s bad enough that the fans expect the worse but I think the players do too.

  115. speedkillz7 says:

this is really getting OLD. EVERY DAMN NITE!!!! Can anyone in the pen step up?

  116. metman1964 says:

I am at the point where I want the Mets to lose it in the last game of the yr, and have the Phils back into it. Maybe Wilpon will show some emotion and get rid of Willie and Omar and hire some people that have brains and know what they are doing

  117. MetsMachine says:

Proof is in the pudding boys.

This bullpen isn’t going anywhere in October.
The 2007 mets…..Your season has come…and your bullpen has taken it away.

No one on this team can pitch.

  118. beltransmole says:

    Still nobody out. Unbelievable.

  119. Navy_Mets says:

here we go 0-2 lets see where the pitch is

  120. Koko says:

    Fire Rick Peterson now!

  121. washtiger says:

I can’t bear to watch this. Had the sound down so I didn’t have to hear the MASN clowns.

    I’m on the computer now.

    What gives with this team?

  122. CornellMetsFan says:

the best part about this inning was that weve been up in the count 0-2 on all these crap hitters, but we cant get anyone out

  123. azmetfan says:

Why are these games being decided by rookies? It makes no sense

  124. Navy_Mets says:

    He’s teasing us

  125. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

i guess smith doesnt want to be on the post season roster if there is one

  126. metsforever says:

What really sucks is that the Nationals will go back to being the Nationals when this is over and roll for the Phillies, while Florida becomes the Yankees and kicks ass.

    • MetsMachine says:

I dont think it has anything to do with the Nats being the Nats.

More so….how bad the Mets bullpen is.

Any team can look good vs these bums.

  127. azmetfan says:

What a joke. I am done.

  128. Hellbelly says:

…….is that Danny Frisella up in the bullpen?

  129. KeithsChili says:

    Un-Real….UNREAL.

  130. MetsMachine says:

Off topic, I heard through the watercooler chat today that Johan Santana is possibly being delt by Minnesota THIS YEAR.

If thats the case, Omar must open up the checkbook and get him. He’ll want 30mill a year….5-7 years. You do it. Ink the deal.

Give Minnesota Milledge, Pelfrey, and Heilman. That should be enough…Twins are a smart club. They’re gonna want prospects and a seasoned guy (Heilman).

Milledge is a mediocre player. Pelfrey is terrible.
Heilman is Heilman. None will be missed. Its time for this club to get over the prospet hype. Realize these guys are average and deal them for the best pitcher in the game.

  131. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

exactly philly will probably blow their doors off

  132. Navy_Mets says:

Told ya’ll he was teasing, this is the worst yet

  133. beltransmole says:

God job fellas. This is absolutely absurd.

  134. Wyoming Met says:

    This team blows. Plain blows.

  135. Darryl Strawberry says:

There is no way we win this game. This is absolutely disgusting.

  136. KeithsChili says:

Keith says, “this is shocking.” No, what would be shocking is if guys actually held onto a lead for a change.

  137. MetsMachine says:

Whats the over/under on the Nats NOT reaching double digits tonight?

  138. therealsince86 says:

This makes no sense at all. I can’t stomach it. I want to blame Willie or Omar but who the hell does he put out there. Smith and Pedro were our best relievers. Heilman and Wagner have even been bad. There is no one in the pen that can get an out consistently.

  139. Darryl Strawberry says:

Philadelphia Phillies are the 2007 N.L. East Champions and I could puke. Anyone who thinks we will be okay hasn’t watched this organization very long.

  140. metschamps says:

Why does Hernendez harp on the mental errors of the Nats when they occured on their scoring drives against the Mets??? As if the mental error by Willie Mo Pena was *much* worse than the fact we just blew yet another lead.

  141. beltransmole says:

What you guys fail to realize is that the Nats are not done. We’ve still got 4 more innings left. The Nats will score at least 4 more runs in this game.

  142. StealYourBase says:

55 runs to this team in the past six.. and counting.

pathetic. they deserve nothing.. except exactly what they’re getting.

    i am disgusted.

  143. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

the nats have apparently a bunch of guys who can get guys out

  144. speedkillz7 says:

I’m not psychic or anything…but this will most likely either end in a BLOW OUT or we’ll make a comeback in the 9th and then BLOW IT.

  145. Hellbelly says:

….I wonder what Doug Sisk is up to these days?

  146. metsforever says:

    Well,

that certainly worked out well. F*&^ing unbelievable.

  147. azmetfan says:

This is where they fold. 1 pitch at bats.

  148. backinbusiness says:

duque in the pen. save us!!!!!

  149. Navy_Mets says:

    Why is Gomez still in?

  150. MetsMachine says:

Where are you fans that still are content with backing into the playoffs by default?

Think this team is gonna Jekyl and Hyde in October? My butt.
This is what you pay for…this is what you get Omar.

I’m tellin ya….this team missing the post season gets rid of all our pain quicker. If it comes to October….this will just continue.

And you all know it. Don’t tell me anything can happen in the playoffs. Not with this pen. You know what happens? This crap happens.

    • baseballaddict says:

At this rate, I’ll be much happier with backing into the playoffs that backing out of the playoffs, which is where they’re heading

  151. azmetfan says:

3 pitches, 2 outs. Nice. Way to battle.

  152. Hellbelly says:

Darling says “the Mets bullpen is close”………the only thing the Mets bullpen is close to is AA.

  153. washtiger says:

We’re done hitting now. Blew our wad after the 6th run. A hit by Delgado in the 4th with 2nd and 3rd and he looks sick against a mediocre pitcher. Those extra runs probably wouldn’t matter b/c this bullpen BLOWS!!!

  154. slachs says:

    Um, is this really happening?

  155. azmetfan says:

I agree. I can’t handle this in the playoffs. It is better if they don’t make it. They don’t deserve it. You can’t get swept by the Nats under any circumstance. You just can’t.

    • baseballaddict says:

Tigers got swept by the Royals to end the regular season last year, but at least they already clinched a playoff spot by then.

  156. MetsMachine says:

    Nice bounceback inning boys!

This is where the Mets punch out.
    Nats tack on.

    Same story. Different night.

  157. Innis_2_winnis says:

can warren wallace pitch the 6th?

  158. CornellMetsFan says:

here are my two predictions for the rest of teh game.

    1. the mets will go down 12-6, come back in the 9th and make it 12-11 and lose with the bases loaded. (delgado will probably strike out at some point with runners on and less than 2 outs)

    2. the mets will go up 10-6. wagner will give blow the lead in the 9th, as felipe lopez, ronnie belliard, ryan zimmerman, austin kearns, and ryan church hit back to back to back to back to back home runs. the mets will then load the bases with no outs and delgado will hit into a triple play.

  159. KeithsChili says:

Mets need to score 17 runs in a game in order to have a prayer…i hope LoDuca and the rest of the regulars beat the living piss out of these chumps after the season.

  160. NY Cuban says:

Did anyone buy one of those Mets NL East Champs shirts? I wanna know who to blame.

  161. Darryl Strawberry says:

You can tell by the body language on the bench. This team has has thrown in the towel and they are done.

  162. Hellbelly says:

    …is Tug McGraw still dead?

  163. natew says:

Gotay has been a big part of a number of come from behind rallies, I dont understand wasting him with a meaningless PH at bat in the 5th inning with the bases empty and two outs. What else are Newhan, and Anderson Hernandez on the roster for…??

  164. Krusty The Klown says:

just go out there and win i dont give a crap ur only down by 1 jsut win the freakin ballgame

  165. NY Cuban says:

You’re down by one to the NATS…can we bear down and come back…PLEASE!!!

  166. letsgohome says:

    Here i go again!!!

    FK the METS
    FK the METS
head to the park and FK the METS
strke out, pop up, swept out at shea,
guaranteed to give up 10 runs today

because the mets are reallin FKN bad
giving up ten runs to my mom and my dad

east side west side, everybodys comin down
to see the m e t s mets get swept out of town!!!!!

  167. azmetfan says:

How is this team not in last place? or in second to last? How are they even over 500. Over the last 2 weeks they are by far in away the worst team in baseball. by far. Not even close.

    • Josh says:

Actually, they said on the radio the other day that the Mets are one or two games under .500 since May 1st.

    • davethenjmetsfan says:

..and this is where “deserving” is the only word that matters. If they blow this this week it will be the worst collapse ever, and, I’m sorry Willie fans, he’ll be gone. Omar gave him crap to work with, so if he follows him out the door, fine. I try to stay positive, but just when you think a team can’t really suck this bad when they need to do it…the Nationals? The NATIONALS? Un. Real.

  168. MetsMachine says:

Can anyone explai to me why I have to see Derek Jeter commercials every 10 minutes on a METS channel?

Does the TV network have to bend over and take it from the Yanks also? it’s bad enough the Mets blow..and the Yanks are gonna win the WS.

I dont see any David Wright commercials on YES.

  169. Darryl Strawberry says:

As fans we have the right to be furious with the way this team has been handled.

    • Two-By-Four says:

The blame has to be spread around. It’s not just Willie.

      • StealYourBase says:

dude.. if anyone thinks that it’s willie that’s let up 55 runs to the LOWEST scoring team in the majors.. in the past 5 1/2 games.. they are INSANE and does not deserve to be heard.

this is absolutely the worst pitching i’ve seen in a long long time.

  170. beltransmole says:

Schoenweis is the only guy that has been mediocre, which on this staff is an ace.

  171. Steve.P says:

    FOLKS!
Question: I just got home and put on the game, and they showed a PISSED OFF Beltran. What happened?

    Also, WTF?! Another 5-run implosion?!

WE CAN DO THIS!!! LET’S GO METS!!!!!

  172. ChiliGTC says:

Just like at every Mets player in the field, they are shell shocked and I don’t blame them. Every game the score 5-6-7 runs, and every game the pitchers give up run after run in the middle innings….this team is dead man walking.

  173. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

beltrans pissed bc hes freakin hurt and hitting HRs which is harder than healthy relievers getting guys to make a freakin out

    • Steve.P says:

Oh. So nothing other than the regular 5th inning implosion? Beltran showing emotion. Take out the anger on a fastball, Carlos!

GODDAMN IT! We almost came back from 10-3. GET IT DONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • beltransmole says:

He’s already taken it out on a fastball twice. He’s got two homers. Probably not gonna get three.

  174. skylog says:

another lead. another lead lost. another game where the pen will get used…too much. setting up for…another lead tomorrow. another lead lost. another game where the pen will get used…too much. setting up for…..

see where this is going? an early end to the season, that is where. it isn’t going to change. is is simply amazing, blowing games with bad play, errors, everything…..then, they seem to turn it around, put runs up, but it just simply does not matter. they could have been up 15-0 tonight, and they would still be down. they needed that come back win last night. it was there, but no one took it.

    • CornellMetsFan says:

i think matt should make a post describing some of the games weve lost recently. no other team knows how to get you excited and just destroy you. its been a roller coaster almost every night, and every night it ends with our a horrible crash.

  175. azmetfan says:

Why is everybody comparing this team to the cards last year? They aren’t winning. It is not going to happen. As soon as everyone realizes that we can all get some sleep and wait for spring training.

  176. speedkillz7 says:

    Thank you for that LetsGoHome.

  177. KeithsChili says:

    Thataboy, Scot!

  178. beltransmole says:

Why isn’t Willie going to Showmeless more? He is the ONLY guy that can get hitters out. I know it sounds weird but it’s the truth.

  179. Darryl Strawberry says:

Now our offense will go down 1 2 3

  180. Two-By-Four says:

The Nationals are going to be very unhappy after this game that they no longer will see the Mets pitching.

BTW Joe Smith has not pitched well since the very beginning of the season. I think its more the league has caught up to him than he is overworked.

  181. BlueTrane says:

Another night. Another day off of my life….

  182. metsforever says:

There is a misprint on game day. It says the bullpen had a 1-2-3 inning. That can’t be right.

    • brockpemberton says:

The Nats must be catching their breath from the last inning. I expect more Nats runs once Mota gets in the game.

  183. skylog says:

pop up. groud out. line out?

    or

strike out. bunt out to catcher. line out?

    or

or triple. single. double. walk. hr?

    COME ON

  184. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

this team is a disgrace. willie and omar are disgrace. let’s go phillies. they don’t deserve to be in they playoffs. and so glad to see milledge is in the doghouse. hopefully they will free him in the offseason so he can go and have a productive career, while we are stuck with that utility player in rightfield (gomez).. pathetic. i’ve been a mets fan for a long long time and i’m about ready to stop watching this team. this is worse than a typical season in which they are out of it buy july.

  185. skylog says:

does jose ever get ahead in counts anymore? i’m just sayin’

  186. speedkillz7 says:

    YEA JOSE, THAT’S IT…..BUNT!!!???

  187. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

if you’re not going to play milledge than put in green, put in chavez. why are we playing an utility player in an crucial game.

    • StealYourBase says:

get over it … it has nothing to do with gomez

55 RUNS TO THE LOWEST SCORING TEAM IN THE MAJORS IN THE PAST 5 1/2 GAMES – WHO’S FAULT IS THAT?

      stop being so stupid already.

  188. beltransmole says:

    Oh!!! What was that??

  189. metman1964 says:

I have to say that the 79 Mets are making this team look good
Oh yeah who managed the 79 team Willies Butt Buddy Joe

  190. speedkillz7 says:

Chavez played very well for us last season…is slick willie senile??

  191. beltransmole says:

Do you think in the post game wraps that Cerrone has been copying and pasting or is actually typing “The Mets lost to the Nationals tonight” everytime?

  192. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

    MVP MVP…joke joke.

  193. CornellMetsFan says:

the phillies are gonna pull this one out- theyre up 5-2 going into the bottom of the 8th

  194. metsforever says:

    mvp (not)

  195. backinbusiness says:

oh. my. god. MVP or DPP????

  196. beltransmole says:

If they give out MVP’s for grounding into DPs in a key moment in the game, D. Wright is a shoe-in.

  197. speedkillz7 says:

    MR. “DP”….David Wright!!!!!!!

  198. KeithsChili says:

    speechless

  199. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

the truth is they will not make the playoffs and this will probably set the organization back years. first, because they aren’t that good and the second, the good players who remain will be shell shocked. third, no one, no good free agent will want to come to this turd of an organization

  200. CornellMetsFan says:

can they please start a DP chant when wright comes up

  201. kd bart says:

David Wright can forget about the MVP. Three DPs in two nights.

  202. slachs says:

When was the last time Wright had a big late inning dinger? Three GIDP in two nights? UGH.

Great year, no doubt. Terrible clutch play.

Go ahead, tell me there’s no such thing as clutch, I dare you.

  203. letsgohome says:

    YES

    That our MVP boys!!!

    WOOOO HOOOOOOO

Double play, dou ble pllay double play

Thats 6 runners in two games david.. plus 12 wide throws.

This team keeps saying they know htey have to win, they just cant do it..

THEY ARE GETTING SWEPT AT HOME BY WASHINGTON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  204. Navy_Mets says:

Castillo fights off pitches and what does David do, take a strike and swing at a ball….GIDP

  205. metman1964 says:

    CORRECTION

I have to say that the 79 Mets are making this team look good
Oh yeah who managed the 79 team Willies Butt Buddy Joe

THIS SHOULD HAVE SAID THIS TEAM IS MAKING THE 79 TEAM LOOK GREAT!!!!!

  206. Darryl Strawberry says:

The fight in this team is gone, you can just tell by the whole mood of the game right now. To make matters worse I’m sure the Yankees will win the world series.

  207. skylog says:

lay off guys, it is only three in his last few at bats. it is not like those runs were needed either last night or tonight.

  208. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

ugh if they dont make the playoffs i think we could be looking at another 02-04 stretch here

  209. NY Cuban says:

Anyone else think the Cards will come into Shea and ruin our season again?

  210. Wyoming Met says:

I am going to commence getting hammered. I predict Duque will give up 3 runs. Thus giving Murderers’ Row another 10 spot

  212. metschamps says:

Which is the bad foot on El Duque?

  213. CornellMetsFan says:

question: if el duque could pitch out of the pen, why couldnt he start todays game? why would we start a guy making his major league debut over a guy who has pitched in 5 world series?

  214. beltransmole says:

At leas we’re using one of our starters up instead of using him to…I don’t know… START A GAME!!! Why try and get 6 innings out of him in a start when we can use him up and get one. This is retarded.

  215. azmetfan says:

Belliard is only a tough out against the Mets. He sucks against everyone else.

  216. stickguy says:

If they aren’t at rock bottom, they must be getting darned close.

Lead about to be 1.5, unless the Braves have another miracle comeback against the Phils pen (oh wait, they usually get guys out..).

Now our season has been reduced to trhowing a guy that is supposed to be testing an injury in the pen out onto the mound. This might not go well.

    Thank god for the Schoe!
If they don’t pull out a win, I will officially give up all hope. I’m not sure they will even win another game this year, but you can pretty much give the division to the Phils, since they aren’t losing to the Nats at home like the Mets did.

  217. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

they will lose the rest of their game. and come in third behind the braves… how’s that for humiliation.

there’s no way willie and omar can be back after this. other teams have crappy bullpens. but i’ve never seen a pitching staff totally blowup like this. and peterson has got to go to.. DFA the entire bullpen after the game

  218. metsforever says:

It wouldn’t be right for them not to get 10. It’s the Mets after all, their personal patsies. Is there no shame for these guys?

Will the Wilpons dump Omar and Willie for this? Not likely. Too cheap to pay guys for not working.

  219. KeithsChili says:

Mets need to sign Rollins, Belliard, Molina, Kearns, Suppan, Dobbs and Werth this offseason.

  220. speedkillz7 says:

There’s NO laying off at times like this, sky…

  221. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

it is possible that el duque was an absolute emergency back up plan type and since we’re losing by 1 and philly is going to win this lead cant get any wider bc we MUST WIN THIS GAME and with good reason willie has no faith in anyone else in the pen.

    • Wyoming Met says:

I am surprised Mota hasnt come in. Willie always has faith in the garbage that cant get an out.

  222. skylog says:

i am out as well. i stayed through it all last night, well, all the nights, but it is not worth this. win or, i mean lose or win it simply is not worth the frustration anymore. hopefully, they will manage to win the east and find some magic. if not, i will be happier not watching them suffer the largest collapse in 120+ years of baseball.

maybe tomorrow will be a good day when i see if they pulled it out.

  223. beltransmole says:

Cohen has now resorted to watching wild card scoreboards. Wow, what a turn this team has taken.

  224. metsforever says:

Did Pedro really need 5 days? Wasn’t this game a little important?

  225. stickguy says:

When they miss the playoffs this team is going to have to be blown up, in a big way, in the off season. And if they lose out the string, they just might start with Willie.

Not neccesarily his fault (entirely), but you have to cut off the head to start fresh, otherwise he will bring the stigma right back with him.

If they complete this collapse, they will have to start fresh with a new manager, or the fan base will revolt. Not a good thing with a new stadium going up!

  226. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

geez thats bad, is it bad that i was doing that last night?

  227. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

    phillies win

  228. joevvv says:

All I can say is this is

    UNREAL

  229. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

this is why willie sucks. the game was on the line in the 5th inning. frankly the season was on the line. once again, if they win this game they probably have it wrapped up. so why not bring heilman .. i know he can suck it up plenty.. but he’s better than feliciano and joe smith. stop the bleeding right then. why hold heilman back utnil the 8th when you may not have the lead… damn, i’d even bring wagner in. i know it’s not conventional.. but you used to bring your top relievers in when the team was in a jam.. but willie plays it safe and unimaginative. he sucks. he’s a loser. i cant wait until he’s fired

  230. Navy_Mets says:

It’s 344am here, my wife and son are asleep. I’m watching the game in the dark but guess what…its louder here than at Shea and that is crazy

  231. Wyoming Met says:

6.5% beer right now. Maybe the pain will go away. On topic, I cant wait until the Mets face a below .500 team. Wait…..

    • Buckners Ankle says:

This is the most disgusting display of baseball I’ve ever seen from a team with so much “talent.” We will deservedly lose this division and may still end up tied with the Braves.
Even if we win…I’m so sickened and disgusted, I don’t know if I even want to watch the team get hammered by the Padres/Rockies/DBacks/Cubs/Brewers. take your pick. we’re dead meat. How can Willie keep his job if this team doesn’t get to the playoffs? Can any starter pitch 7 good innings? Can any reliever NOT allow inherited runners to score. CAN SOMEONE START A FIGHT OR SOMETHING!!!
This team is playing scared and expects to lose.
      WTF…WTF…WTF!!!!!!!!!

    • el_giacomo says:

The 8.0% Terrapin Coffee Oatmeal Imperial Stout in my fridge is calling my name. Saw some 12% at my beer stop the other day…might need that if this trend continues…

  232. beltransmole says:

Please lower the “confidence rating” to 0. Feel free to take it lower than that if you want.

  233. CornellMetsFan says:

great point by howie rose: the nats, who have the worst offense in baseball, have been without dmitri young, their best offensive player.

i dont know whats worse? the fact that the nats are tearing us up without their sole all star or that weve given up 55 runs in 6 games to a team whose best offensive player is dmitri young.

  234. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

i predict massive season ticket cancellations. the new stadium will be empty in 2009.. the city will have to foreclose on it. it will be auctioned off to a minor league team

  235. stickguy says:

I will give them until the end of this game, but if they lose, I think I am done for th eyear. I can’t take it anymore.

Now I have to decide if I even want to make the drive up Sunday, or should I just eat the tickets. I assume they might be eliminated by the end of Saturday’s game. No way I am gong for the wake.

Maybe if they are still within 1 game I might go just to see them get eliminated? Probably on a BP meltdown. Of course.

    • davethenjmetsfan says:

Now, you know they will win the next three while the Phils are winning, and blow it on the final day of the season! You’ll get to see the momentous occasion in person. Do not miss it!

  236. Navy_Mets says:

Good strike out, but thats only 2 outs….THEY NEED 3

  237. Wyoming Met says:

Is this a relief pitcher bearing down???

  238. beltransmole says:

Wow, we got out of the inning. Fitting that it wasn’t a member of the bullpen that did it.

  239. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

i really hope this isnt too little too late

  240. speedkillz7 says:

Yeah El Duque! He has been the most consistent pitcher for us this year.

  241. letsgohome says:

if duque was pitching tonight, WHY DIDNT WILLIE GO TO HIM INSteA OF sMITH?????????????????????????????????

    IT DOESNT MAKE SENSE!!!

SMITH GOT SENT DOWN BECAUSE HE ALLOWED EVERY INHERITED RUNER TO SCORE FOR A MONTH STRAIGHT… So why not set up to go humber for 4 or 5 then duque for 3 or 4, instead of SMITH and feliciano..

Plus, hes always bright red and he looks like he is going to burst out laughing after he gets shelled..

  242. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

remember how bad they were in spring training? that was the reality. the first 6 weeks of the season were a mirage, ever since they’ve looked like a mediocre team. now they look like that awful team in spring training.

frankly, i never thought they were that good last year. they benefited from the fact that the NL sucked and then they couldn’t beat the cardinals. and don’t tell me the cardinals won the WS.. the truth is the cardinals were a crappy team. the mets couldn’t hit in that series when they needed and then the bullpen failed them

this is what you get when you have a GM in love with old ball players and other teams rejects. this is what happens when you systematically trade away every young player.. and when you have young players, like milledge, you play head games with them. screws this team. screw this organization. it’s a joke.

  243. Darryl Strawberry says:

Once again now the offense will go down scoreless.

  244. letsgohome says:

COME ON BELTRAN and ALOU, YOU ARE OUR ONLY FKN HOPE!!!!!

  245. Hellbelly says:

…..shades of Fat Sid in game 7 in ‘86! (for you youngsters, a starter coming in in relief and getting the crowd back into a game where the mets were behind).

  246. Wyoming Met says:

Ok, we need to get some runs. Beltran, Alou, Delgado and Duke coming up. If we dont, I am going to fall down the ski slope outside.

  247. Navy_Mets says:

Gomez better not see another AB

  248. CornellMetsFan says:

please, remind me why humber pitched today. were willie and omar trying to make a point? el duque is definitely somewhat rusty, but the guy is a bonafide winner.

heres why you cant start humber:
    1. he hasnt started a game in a month
    2. hes really not taht good of a prospect (hes 26 and had a 4+ era in AAA)
    3. its his major league debut
    4. we dont need a 6 man rotation
    5. el duque clearly can pitch. id rather test duque than let one of these nobodies get the ball.

    • beltransmole says:

At least he can go tomorrow or Friday or…oh wait, he pitched tonight…nevermind.

    • StealYourBase says:

let’s not kid ourselves.. the writing has been on the wall for quite a while with this team.

i wish we could revisit some of comments made by people over the summer.. you know..when some aspects of this team was called into question.

this is so effing disgusting. they better win this game..

and this team has been pressing.. wait to you see the next two innings.

  249. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

    wtf

  250. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

    losers

  251. beltransmole says:

Beltran (aka Pedro Cerrano) strikes out on curve ball. He hits straight ball very well.

  252. letsgohome says:

    YES… HES THROWN 5 PITCHES!!!!

  253. Navy_Mets says:

It seems we score and have the momentum the crowd is into it but then the pitching falls apart, then when the pitching does perform well our offense goes away

  254. Wyoming Met says:

    Heading to the ski slope……

  255. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

i really hope gomez bats with a man in scoring position
maybe he can hit it past the pitcher

  256. Navy_Mets says:

    now he gets a hit

  257. letsgohome says:

    AND THE CROWD GOES NUTS!!!

ITS AN INFIELD SINGLE by our SLUGGER!!!!!!

TOO BAD LO DUCA WILL POP OUT ON THE FIRST PITCH..

  258. beltransmole says:

Over/under on Nats runs in the 8th is at 2.5. Any takers?

  259. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

i hope they run that ad, “your postseason has come again”.. this organization is such a joke.. a cubs are at least loveable. the mets are just a joke

  260. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

i guess green is in the doghouse too

  261. letsgohome says:

well this should set us up for crap anderson reyes

followed by castillo DP (DW) and MOLE

We may be down 47-6 by then though…

MAYBE PEDRO WILL PITch THE 8th???

Maybe DARLING can pitch??? FK that how about COHEN???

  262. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

why is green not in the on deck circle?

  263. Hellbelly says:

….word on the street is that Lastings Milledge is so far in Willy’s doghouse that Michael Vick is making inquiries.

    • CornellMetsFan says:

willie is a frickin disgrace. who the hell does he think he is? why is he trying to make a point and sit milledge when hes clearly superior to gomez? willie, your days are numbered- enjoy the last few days you have.

  264. beltransmole says:

Sean Green has a helmet on.

  265. Navy_Mets says:

    ball 4

  266. azmetfan says:

Isn’t sad when a rally for the mets is now just getting one man on base.

  267. Wyoming Met says:

This sucks. Why do they have to blow so bad?

  268. letsgohome says:

    YES

    LETS GO HOME!!!!!!!!!!!
    LETS GO HOME!!!!!!!!!!
    LETS GO HOME!!!!!!!!!!!
    LETS GO HOME!!!!!!!!!!!
    LETS GO HOME!!!!!!!!!!!
    LETS GO HOME!!!!!!!!!!!
    LETS GO HOME!!!!!!!!!!!
    LETS GO HOME!!!!!!!!!!!
    LETS GO HOME!!!!!!!!!!!

THIS IS EMBARASSING!!! I LIVE IN NY!!! I CANT TAKE THE ABUSE FROM TEH STANKEE FANS!!!!

WE WENT FROM KINGS TO FAGS IN TWO MONTHS!!!!

    ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

CERRONE and the other Bloggers still have hope though, cause they are on the FKN take from OMAR…

  269. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

    off season dismissals:
omar, willie, peterson, the entire bullpen except for wagner, delgado, glavine, lo duca, gomez, newhan,

  270. Krusty The Klown says:

I CANT TAKE THSI ANYMORE JUST WIN! NO MORE WITTY REMARKS ABOT THIS BAD TEAM JUST WIN THE FREAKIN BALLGAME IDC HOW

  271. metties says:

I think alot of the criticism that willie has been getting in response to the bullpen is somewhat not warranted. How about plaace the blame on Rick Peterson? I dont really see what is so great about him..what has he done.. “ill fix victor zambrano in 15 minutes” worked well and other than that the only thing i see is a trend of one pitcher after another after another giving up hits and walks and leads left and right. Also i love pedro martinez and his guts and all that for making it back form a major surgery this year but Pedro come on u gotta stand up to the front office or willie if thats who it was saying humber is starting and say this is a huge game im pitching and im not taking no for an answer NOT take another day off to rest u pitched 5 innings in that rain delayed game a week ago give me a break( if he was the one saying he needed another day) i just cant take it anymore no one can get an out

  272. Darryl Strawberry says:

After this season crumbles away it is going to take this franchise a long time to recover. This is going to ruin the last year of Shea Stadium, a new television network and the opening of Citifield. The organization is going to lose many millions of dollars due to one or two games and we,the fans, will suffer even more. Wow!

  273. Wyoming Met says:

Say it with me. 1 game up.

  274. beltransmole says:

over/under on Nats runs in the 8th has been lowered to 2. Looking for a taker.

  275. extrawhitemeat says:

Tell me again how much heart this team has? Not an ounce

    Can’t battle back down 1 run…

I assume the Phillies have their own magic number on us.. anyone know what it is?

  276. StealYourBase says:

let’s not kid ourselves.. the writing has been on the wall for quite a while with this team.

i wish we could revisit some of comments made by people over the summer.. you know..when some aspects of this team was called into question.

this is so effing disgusting. they better win this game..

and this team has been pressing.. wait to you see the next two innings.

  277. beltransmole says:

over/under on Heilman’s first double to the gap: 2 batters

  278. Wyoming Met says:

And Duque is not pitching why????????

  279. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

so the nats bullpen is apparently dominant? didnt get that memo

    • kendychavez says:

they’re actually pretty good. not as good as we make them look but they’ve been good all year. i’d love rivera or rauch on the mets

  280. beltransmole says:

over/under on Nats base runners this inning: 3.5

  281. CornellMetsFan says:

another point: why didnt willie go to el duque immediately after humber?

  282. beltransmole says:

    Here comes that 2-out rally.

  283. Wyoming Met says:

Good thing the bullpen is bearing down when we are losing. Nevermind preserving the lead.

  284. Wyoming Met says:

Cant possibly have a 1-2-3 inning. I bet Logan scores.

  285. beltransmole says:

Broken bat, 2-out single, couldn’t have written it any better.

  286. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

note to jose reyes, if youre fast hit the ball on the ground

  287. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

it’s so clear that milledge will be gone in the offseason, and of course become a 300 hitter for another team. gary cohen, the management stooge, praises him all the time

  288. Steve.P says:

    homerun.

  289. CornellMetsFan says:

it might be a good thing if the nats score a bunch of runs here. we might then have a use for mota!!!!!!! he can come in and just bean hitters back to back to back with that 97 mph fastball

  290. Wyoming Met says:

Here comes a single and another run

  291. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

willie gets a lot of blame. yeah the bullpen sucks but willie has never managed like any of these games in the last 2 weeks were critical. he’s a dolt. bud harrelson

  292. ChiliGTC says:

    yeah who have little faith?

  293. Wyoming Met says:

When did we last win a game? August what??

  294. Navy_Mets says:

    No way Gomez hits right?

  295. Darryl Strawberry says:

Bottom of the eighth and we will go scoreless again, no doubt.

  296. extrawhitemeat says:

I don’t know if it’s funny or sad that victor zambrano started tonight, lasted .2 innings and gave up 8ERs… think JD is happy to be back with him?

  297. Steve.P says:

Heilmand and El Doofus get it done. Now, can our freaking BATS wake up. NOTHING CLICKS!!!

And I hate freaking Sweet Caroline. If I were at Shea I woluldnt be singing, I’d be puking. We deserve our own song…

    ANDERSON!!

  298. Navy_Mets says:

Why use Anderson now? theres nobody on base!

  299. StealYourBase says:

this epic collapse is all on the players..

only they can turn it around too

  300. Wyoming Met says:

Anderson, Green and Willie Mays Hayes this inning.

  301. Navy_Mets says:

Why not use Green then Anderson, what the hell?

  302. azmetfan says:

It is obvious that the Mets have given up. So should we.

  303. beltransmole says:

Even Mr. Clutch can’t do anything.

  304. letsgohome says:

    WHAT ELSE CAN WE TYPE?????

  305. D-Day says:

its no wonder the bats have gone silent right now. when you build up a lead for the first couple of innings only to have the pitching blow it all in one it kinda kills things. i mean one time might not be that bad but every f’n night! right now the offense is thinking that even if they score it will be blown anyway, even if they pile it on! everyone is forcing it at the plate instead of relaxing and letting the game come to them cause no one has faith in any of the pitchers to come through!

  306. Wyoming Met says:

Good thing the bar 2 blocks away has $1 bottles tonight.

  307. speedkillz7 says:

    can we catch a break????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  308. KeithsChili says:

    ZERO plate dicipline. Zero.

  309. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

fire willie now. fire him tonight. make hojo the manager. maybe that will light a fire under them

  310. speedkillz7 says:

    reyes your are worthless

  311. metschamps says:

I am just floored over how this series is ending up. We are one inning away from being swept by the Nats? This is beyond comprehension.

  312. CornellMetsFan says:

think about whose coming up for us in the 9th. if castillo gets on base, wright is just going to ground into a double play

  313. letsgohome says:

    IU FKN HATE THIS TEAM!!!!!

I HPOE THAT STL WIPES THEIR AZZES WITH US TOMORROW, JUST LIKE LAST YEAR!!!!

DISMANTLE THIS TEAM THAT SHOULDVE WON LAST YEAR, THIS YEAR, AND NEXT YEAR..

OMAR, PITCHING WINS GAMES, NOT 18 BENCH PLAYERS!!!!

  314. Wyoming Met says:

Do we cede the NL East torch to Philly? I say no, let them earn it. But it looks like they are.

  315. StealYourBase says:

this is just absolutely sickening.. how this whole thing is shaking out

the biggest thing to happen this season for a club that’s been in first place since may.. is an unprecented collapse.

  316. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

wow, im speechless right now, at least we have 2-3-4 up in the 9th no willie mays hayes

  317. Darryl Strawberry says:

There is not a enough room on this page to write about the problems with this team.

  318. Wyoming Met says:

    $1 bottles!!!!

  319. kingkongkoo says:

    Hey Mets fans….
    Your season has ended

This has been the least fun I’ve ever had watching the Mets.

  320. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

fire him. he sucks. he’s dumb. unimaginative. you have to manage this game like it’s a playoff game. all of MLB is laughing at the mets. so sweet

  321. letsgohome says:

WE ARE 4-9 down the stretch so far, including the philly series..

THAT IS BIG TIME CLUTCH FKN BASEBALL!!!!

  322. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

everyone is laughing at us i bet devil rays and royals fans are laughing at us i live in f***ing baltimore and people laugh at me

  323. Navy_Mets says:

At this point the only thing that saves our season is a walk off HR that ricochets around in our pen and knocks everyone out for the year.

  324. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

this a dreadful team. trade reyes. please trade him for santana. let him taking his stupid dancing to the dome

  325. Innis_2_winnis says:

I’ll take Cordero over Rauch in the 9th…aw hell…who am I kidding…F it. I’m gettin drunk

  326. beltransmole says:

    Belliard looks like A-rod.

  327. Darryl Strawberry says:

After Wagner struggles in the top of the 9th we will go scoreless in the bottom. It isn’t the time to think about it but I can’t help it. These games against the Nats are going to haunt this organization for many years to come.

  328. KeithsChili says:

Can we just cancel the next four games?

  329. speedkillz7 says:

OoooH it’s wagners turn. I HATE BELLY YARD!

  330. Wyoming Met says:

    there is always beer

  331. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

can we please get a double play?

  332. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

you don’t deserve to go to the playoffs if you can’t beat last place teams down the stretch.. if you have a losing record against teams in your own division, if you are playing under .500 baseball for the second half of the season. this team has been a big joke.

  333. letsgohome says:

Thats it… my boy has first row season tickets..

I AM DEFINITELY GOING ON SUNDAY

I AM GOING TO TAKE A DUMP ON MY SEAT AND THROW IT ON THE FIELD

I AM GOING TO VOMIT ON THE BALL BOY

I AM GOGIN TO STREAK AROUND THE BASES WITH A PHILLIES CAP ON!!!!!

I CAN NOT BELIEVE WE ARE GOING TO BE 1 up with 4 to go instead of 2 up…

We will be tied after tomorrow, then well sweep fla, and philly will sweep wash, and well lose in philly playoff game, by blowing a 3 run lead in the 9th.. WRITE IT DOWN!!!

  334. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

this organization will be set back for a decade. remember that’s how the mets operate.. two or three decent years and then a decade of crap.. the decade of crap is starting now

  335. metsforever says:

Phillies magic number is about to be 5. Ever since that number was posted here, we went in the tank.

  336. CornellMetsFan says:

wagner, drill one of these minor leaguers please. actually, do this: throw a 98 mph fastball into the dugout, and aim for the boneheaded manager. hopefully youll knock him out and we can have someone with a brain manage this team. i mean, even rickey henderson would be a better manager.

  337. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

tear the damn stadium down now. cancel the rest of the season. disband the organization. …

  338. Wyoming Met says:

We shouldve saved a run or 5 for tonight.

  339. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

i’ve changed my mind. i want wagner gone too after the season. he’s a redneck punk and has been crap the past month

  340. stickguy says:

Hey, this is a classic 2007 game. get some runs early, then the offense goes to sleep for 5 innings. Meanwhile, the pen proceeds to give them all back, and more.

I love the classics! I hope they threw in a couple of errors or mental gaffs just for added spice.

pull this out in the 9th, or the season is officially over. No more pages to turn, just close the darned book and put it back on the shelf.

  341. beltransmole says:

Remember back in April when we all looked forward to these last 14 games against the Nats and Marlins?

  342. Wyoming Met says:

A cat in heat can manage better. So, 2 on one out. Wags will give up a run or 2 and we will fall short in a rally again,

  343. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

last night’s comeback was an omen.. falling short. they will lose the division by a game to the phillies… i hate wagner

  344. MetsMachine says:

Home stretch….Mets in front of their home fans…..need to win games……playing a terrible team……

Mets get swept. What a resilient bunch.

NOT A PLAYOFF TEAM. The end. Finito. Period.

Pull the plug. End the season. Turn the lights out on Shea.
One more season in this dump…and then hopefully on to bigger and better things at CitiField.

Learn from your mistakes Omar. Fix the bullpen. It’s a priority.
This bullpen couldn’t get highschool teams out.

  345. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

    total organization meltdown

  346. Navy_Mets says:

    O-V-E-R

  347. stickguy says:

And now Wags 1 run game and give the nats the breathing room to put it out of reach (or at least harder to get to).

    They are Not Good.

  348. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

    ha ha

  349. jeffscott says:

Is there anyone else that just cannot watch this misery anymore? If the bullpen was strong the Mets would honestly not be where they are and it is sad that the entire Mets as a team is being blamed as doing poorly. How many homeruns does Beltran have to hit? How many hits does Alou have to have? How many? I am a huge Mets fan and some may think otherwise with this comment, but does anyone else feel like maybe they – deserve to lose? They did not lose all these games because they got unlucky – they just do not have what it takes to win these games with the team they have.

    I hope I am wrong.

    • D-Day says:

the all dont deserve to lose. lets face it. the offense has show up ever day but the damn pitching takes the wind out of there sails every night. i think wright, beltran, alou and the rest are as fed up with this as we are. they show up to play everyday only to have it blown by the worst pitching in the majors.

  350. beltransmole says:

Every single person at Shea should gather their things and WALK OUT!!

  351. mistermet says:

Martinez should have grown a sack, manned up, and DEMANDED the ball tonight. I’ve had enough of this “extra day” garbage. He’s a big boy- it would not have ruined his career/permanently injured him if he had godforbid taken the ball on 4 days rest tonight. It’s a nice luxury for a team running away with its division, but that luxury disappeared weeks ago. What a disgrace. So yes, he gets his extra day! He will be getting a LOT of extra days in October, November, December, etc., because this team is not going to be in the postseason. Fire everybody NOW.

  352. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

    un-be-lievable

  353. Wyoming Met says:

    And we are surprised?

  354. speedkillz7 says:

Yea, lets get rid of wagner to.

  355. metsdoc says:

first off…give credit where credit is due: the phils notorious bullpen is taking care of business. Furthermore, the Nats are playing well and their bullpen has been flawless tonight.

  356. beltransmole says:

This will turn out to be just like last night. The Mets will score two runs in the 9th and leave the tying run on second.

  357. letsgohome says:

    FIRE

    RICK

    PETERSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SOMEONE HAS To PAY FOR THIS DEBACLE OF A PItCHIGN STAFF!!!!!!

    FIR HIM TONIGHT!!!!!

  358. Koko says:

    Fire Rick Peterson Now!

  359. Wyoming Met says:

    When do Phillies clinch?

  360. azmetfan says:

Approaching a total breakdown Gary! What the hell does a total breakdown look like. The guys should just take what left of their balls and go home. They shouldn’t even play the 4 remaining games. They should just do us all a favor a go home until the spring.

  361. metsforever says:

An absolute joke. What can Willie even say over this crap?

  362. beltransmole says:

I wonder what Willie’s excuse will be tonight. Probably will be as calm as ever.

  363. CornellMetsFan says:

expect 2 runs in the 9th. we will lose by 1 run and a runner on 3rd.

  364. Innis_2_winnis says:

Nice of Billy to make this a team effort…someone PLEASE stop the bleeding….sad, that we’re relying on PEDRO tomorrow. What’s left to say?

  365. metschamps says:

Wow – this is VERY shameful. This pitching staff has completely imploded – from start to finish. Front in , back in, side in – I do not care how we manage to get to the playoffs – if we dumb luck get in, we will not last a prayer.

  366. Darryl Strawberry says:

How many saw that coming? I know I did. I don’t think this team will win another game this year.

  367. dwrightisgod says:

i’m so sick of wagner sucking in big spots

  368. mistermet says:

    Philies magic number: 6

  369. MetsMachine says:

Now 1-5 vs the Nats in the last 2 weeks….giving up 198 runs to them. Awesome boys…way to fatten up!

The only thing I can see playing in the Mets favor is that the Marlins are worse, and the Mets seem to play well vs them.

But really…what does it matter at this point? Even if the Marlins hand them the division….the Mets will be blown out in the first round agains ANY team other than the Marlins.

  370. Darth Hernandez says:

THIS TEAM LOOKS LIKE IT WANTS TO CURL UP INTO FETAL POSITION… WILLIE YOU REALLY TURNED THESE GUYS INTO WARRIORS/CHAMPIONS.

WHEN THE GOING GOT TOUGH YOU REALLY PULLED THE BOYS TOGETHER.

I HATE YOU WILLIE RANDOLPH, I HATE YOU

  371. Darryl Strawberry says:

The offense will go down 1 2 3

    • CornellMetsFan says:

the offense will score 2 runs and fall just short. havent you seen this movie the last 2 weeks? it starts with a mets lead, followed by a short outing by our starters, followed by a bullpen implosion, followed by a comeback that falls just short.

  372. Mister Koo says:

Pedro better have a 200 pitch count tomorrow, and he better go 9.

  373. kendychavez says:

we’re scoring two in the ninth

  374. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

this is how it ends, not with a bang, but with a whimper and willie getting fired

  375. toomanyuniforms says:

Abysmal. A disgrace. None of them should speak a word in the locker room. We are watching history. Mr. Wilpon, please liquidate.

  376. Innis_2_winnis says:

Sign Jeff Innis tomorrow, send him to the pen…he’s only in his mid-40s….practically a rookie compared to the rest of our squad.

  377. beltransmole says:

Interesting bringing in Ayala. Cordero struggles last night so Acta tries something else. Would never get that out of Willie “I trust my guys” Randolph.

  378. MetsMachine says:

Willie…looks like your boys really rallied around you.

That even keel demeanor got you really far.
Way to go out of the dugout every now and then and argue for your guys…stick up for them.

Get this disgraceful excuse for a manager off my team.

Go back to being 3rd base coach for the Yanks. No one wants you here.

  379. Jimbabway says:

    M E T S

    MY ENTIRE TEAM SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  380. mistermet says:

    Willie in post-game interview tonight:

“Still in first place, no big deal! Just gotta TIP YOUR CAP!”
(to a garbage last place team).

“I enjoy being in close races, this is fun. This is what you play for…it’s exciting. We are right where we want to be. I trust my guys!”

“The hampagne will taste that much sweeter now”

The only champagne being sipped will be by all (real) Mets fans the day he, Peteron, Minaya, and Bernazard are FIRED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • Don Logan says:

And who are you gonna hire genius?? Yea Minaya really drove this team into the ground. He only took a last place team and brought them to 1st place in 2 years. Yea he should really get fired.
You should change your handle to Mistermoron

  381. azmetfan says:

I have been a willie supporter, but I don’t think I can support him anymore. The guys aren’t playing for him. That is what is obvious. He has completely lost the team. He needs to go. Joe Girardi is what is needed on this team. If the Delgado’s of the world don’t like it they can go play for someone else. This team has no passion, no heart, no balls. They are soft and completely useless. They should refund everyone’s money this year. We deserve better.

  382. Navy_Mets says:

    1-2-3 good night Met fans

  383. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

i love how milledge is punished for showing fire. getting into a an argument with a loser ump. if more people on this team showed some fire and some passion maybe they wouldn’t be in this situation

  384. CornellMetsFan says:

at least wright cant hit into a double play here

  385. metsforever says:

Major whimer. Can’t wait to hear Willie tonight

  386. luyun says:

Anybody think mets and phillies might finish tied for first?
As of now i’m actually watching the yankees play and about to clinch rather than watching the mets play.

  387. beltransmole says:

Another DP ball for Wright, there was just nobody on base.

  388. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

fire willie and peterson right now. now.. do it omar. have some balls.

  389. Innis_2_winnis says:

Bring on the Cards….anybody but these Gnats….good lord…C’mon Pedro

  390. toomanyuniforms says:

Any defense of any of these guys? Offense scores some runs, but as soon as the lead disappears, NOTHING. Pitching looks wretched, yet again. Is there anything to be said for any of them? And how can firing Willie not be the first move? If nothing else, the team needs to be shaken up after this debacle finishes.

  391. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

did the Devils fire their coach on the eve of the playoffs..it happens. do it. omar.. and then can yourself

  392. beltransmole says:

Pedro Cerrano up. Throw him a curve ball and end it.

  393. dwrightisgod says:

    good game guys

  394. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

pedro will get knocked out in the second inning tomorrow

  395. MetsMachine says:

Gerardi, Valentine, Acta…..anyone with fire come come coach this team.

GET WILLIE OUT OF HERE! He’s a FNING CORPSE!

  396. dwrightisgod says:

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  397. Darth Hernandez says:

I HATE YOU WILLIE RANDOLPH, YOU HAVE NO HEART, NO BALLZ, NO COURAGE AND YOU GIVE NOTHING TO OUR TEAM. YOU OFFER

NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING
NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING
NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING
NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING
NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING
NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING

  398. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

smile you jackass reyes.. smile,, i just dare you

  399. beltransmole says:

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

  400. D-Day says:

its funny everyone was worshipping rick perterson when he had the pitching performing better than expected in the first half of the season and now we want his job. i mean how has it gotten this bad.

  401. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

so will cerrone come on now and tell us.. let’s go boys..chin up. you still have a one game lead.

  402. Darth Hernandez says:

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  403. azmetfan says:

I just don’t know how anyone can defend Willie anymore. If they are they simply aren’t watching what we all have been watching the last few weeks. I gave him a pass during the season, because everyone was getting hurt. But everyone is healthy now and they even got Pedro back. No more free passes. WILLIES TIME HAS COME! Let him go back to the Yankees.

  404. ebelosa says:

Honestly, I remember the collapse of the Mets in 1991-1994.
Gregg Jeffries. Bonilla with cotton in his ears. Vince Coleman.
The aimless mid-90s mets that never won anything.

    The Roberto-alomar/Mo Vaughn 2002 -3 malaise.

    The art howe debacle.

and through it all, THIS YEAR’S TEAM IS EASILY THE MOST HATED MET TEAM OF ALL.

None of the other teams had much in the way of heart or likeability, either, but at least they didn’t have the talent to take down the Braves anway and make a real run. This team does. It remains the most talented squad in the NL on paper. But paper doesn’t have a heart, and neither does this team.

Wasting a real opportunity, one that comes along only once a decade if you’re lucky is worse than never having that opportunity in the first place.

Gut this team, and rebuild it with players who give a damn.

    • Don Logan says:

that post is just retarded. what is with all these people saying this team has no heart? they are trying as hard as they can. The hitters can’t pitch for the god awful pitchers. you people really need to watch other teams play baseball once in a while. other teams blow leads all the time. it’s baseball it happens. this loss is on joe smith and the rest of the bullpen that didn’t come thru. also, the starters haven’t come thru. they never go deep into games. what does the pitchers not coming thru have to do w/ heart??

  405. toomanyuniforms says:

Well, we know what we get tomorrow — a heck of a lot of “it’s not Willie’s fault” and “I’m really glad we have a first place team to watch.” Anyone pleased with this team this year knows absolutely nothing about baseball, competition, or life in general.

    • Don Logan says:

enlighten me genius. tell me all your wonderful baseball geniusness that you know so much about. better yet, tell me what the meaning of life is. seeing how u know so much about baseball, competition and life in general. if you know so much about these things, please enlighten us all.

  406. beltransmole says:

Are we still happy about not getting a reliever at the deadline? That was a solid (non)move. Hey, we still have Carlos Gomez!!

    • Don Logan says:

yea that woulda been great trading gomez and humber for gagne or cordero. really smart post beltransmole. way to really use your head w/ that one.

  409. KeithsChili says:

This team is paper and the rest of the NL east is scissors….

  410. speedkillz7 says:

I hope someone is looking this up somewhere. This has to be the biggest collapse of any team leading a division all season and then losing this many this badly to finish a season. I have never seen anything like this in my 27 yrs of life..

    • davethenjmetsfan says:

It’s been 42 for me, and I agree. Worst show of gutless, heartless, no-fire losers I’ve ever watched…but I’ll love ‘em if they win tomorrow!!

  411. Darryl Strawberry says:

There is just no way they can bring Willie back next year and there is no way we can hold on to the division. They are going to have to bring in a whole new coaching staff too. This offseason is going to suck.

  412. MetsMachine says:

    Cerrone, love ya kid….

but I dare you to spin this one into a positive. DARE YOU!

There are no more must wins. this is the tipping point.

    Season over.

yeah, but at least I don’t live in that asshole of a city filled with losers and fat bottomed chicks stuck in the 80s. It could always be worse..

This is true. Now please tell your facilitator to type in a different web address so that you can fumble through your phonics.

ALL I CAN SAY IS, ID RATHER BE 1 GAME UP 1 THAN GAME DOWN

  415. Darryl Strawberry says:

Threre has never been a collapse like this before.

  416. letsgohome says:

    FIRE PETErSON

    AND FIRE RICKEY FKN HENDERSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  417. MetsMachine says:

This game isn’t on Willie…because the bullpen is just terrible.

But…he still remains to sit perched on the step like a dead useless corpse

He is lifeless. His attitude is not working. Get him out.

GET HIM OUT NOW!! I don’t want that man coaching this team next season. Get somebody with a temper, some fire, some guts, some grit.

WILLIE GET THE F OUT OF HERE.

  418. Darth Hernandez says:

    Thats it………..

Can we please get everyone together tomorrow night for an intervention of giant signs in the upper deck…

we need like 10 people,,, and giant white sheets that read

    SHOW SOME GUTS

  419. Two-By-Four says:

With the mind set, pitching staff and lack of intestinal fortitude of this team the next game they will win will be the last game of the season and that will only happen if they are already eliminated from the post season.

I can’t help but think back to the original Monday Night Football when Dandy Don Meredith used to sing “turn out the lights the party’s over.” Who will play Taps for this team?

  420. Darth Hernandez says:

I’M ALSO GOING TO BRING 100 PAPER GARBAGE BAGS AND GOING TO DISTRIBUTE THEM TO WEAR AS MASKS

  421. GetsByBuckner415 says:

This bullpen is sucking the life out of this team…plain and simple….the offense scores 6 runs and I am sorry but that it more than enough against the Nationals….after the pen blows it the offense gets disheartened and I sure as hell do not blame them.

The team not making the playoffs is the best thing for this team….as a major overhaul to the pitching staff needs to take place…the bullpen needs young power arms and I think Willie is good as gone if they blow this….lucky for him he has a nice contract because Wilpon will not pay him to sit home…so he will probably be back next year.

One question…if the Mets blow this….do they make a big run at A-ROD?

    • toomanyuniforms says:

Who cares. I’ll be tuning in at the start of Spring Training. This team is a waste of time and energy. It looks like the players came to that conclusion about a month ago.

      • Don Logan says:

why don’t u tune out this blog too. we’d all be better off w/ you gone from watching the game and from posting on here.
meanwhile, i’ll be chillin out next week watching the mets v. padres in round 1

    • D-Day says:

truer words have never been spoken, preach on brother!

  422. beltransmole says:

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE lower the confidence rating to 0. It should be lower but let’s start with 0.

  423. toomanyuniforms says:

    Ya Gotta Believe.

  424. GetsByBuckner415 says:

Also, if Duque was available…why did he not come in to bail out Humber instead of Joe Smith….please let me manage this team…I’ll do it for 100K.

  425. Darth Hernandez says:

DUDES WE JUST GOT SWEPT BY THE NATIONALS…

    REALLY, THE NATIONALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  426. GetsByBuckner415 says:

Why should we believe if the players don’t. There is no way they come to the park expecting to win with this bullpen.

  427. stickguy says:

No pressure, but whoever pitches tomorrow (Pedro, right?) needs to pitch a CG shutout.

Oh wait, it is the 5 day rest 5 inning man. That means plenty of work for the pen.’

Yeah, that should work out well…

OP on Friday has to pitch a shutout too.

No problem. Run the table, win the division!

  428. Banta says:

The Mets are 1 up with four to play. Nothing that happened before this moment matters.

Don’t give in the the defeatist attitude. It’s only because you’re trying to psychologically protect yourself from disaster. I’ve been guilty of the same for most of the season. But it’s not time for that any longer. If you don’t gamble big, you can’t win big. For a team who’s history is full of “ya gotta believe”, fans don’t have a lot of that now. And even if you think that doesn’t hurt anything, it certainly doesn’t help.

Take a chance. Dare to believe. Let’s go Mets.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

I’m happy to believe, but I’m also happy not wasting time actually watching this $100M disaster while I’m busy believing somewhere else.

    • D-Day says:

your right, as much as this team breaks my heart every night ill be back for more tomorrow because thats what a real fan does. hope in the face of disaster. believe when no one else does. now LETS GO METS!

    • Darth Hernandez says:

for the most part you see “ya gotta believe” fans at Shea every night. Every single night dude. Its “lets go mets” when they are getting blown out.

We have just witnessed the biggest CHOKE JOB in our teams history and its time we use some drastic measures.

why don’t we make signs and chants calling this team out. Its obvious the “lets go mets” stuff mean nothing to this team. shiz they don’t win at Shea anyway. Lets challenge there heart and guts and see if we can get some sort of reaction..

  429. Wyoming Met says:

$1 bottles at the bar, who is with me???

  430. letsgohome says:

    Philly Headlines Tomorrow:

    THANK YOU METS!!!

    Donovan McNabb is still black

    Cheesesteaks Rule!!!

    • MetsSox says:

      It’s officialy time to SCREAM!!!!!
This team is driving me insane!!! I can’t take it anymore. Blowing a 5-0 lead to the Nationals? Getting swept by the Nationals…at home???!!!!!! Wagner sucking again???!!!!!!!!! No late inning fire this time after just not enough yesterday!!!!!! This team may actually miss the playoffs altogether which would be a monumental collapse…they’re dancing in the streets of Philly somehow and this just sux! Please beat the damn Cardinals tomorrow! Please damnit, run the table!

  431. Mister Koo says:

Hey, at least were still in first place!

  432. MetsMachine says:

Same Ol Willie…..keep fighting. trust my guys….gotta fight through it. mental errors….

HEY WILLIE…YOUR TEAM SUCKS. Maybe its time you chew them out and show some anger. Your method isnt working.

And your not fooling us fans…..we’re tired of the broken record.
YELL A LITTLE….it wont kill you.

    • gipper913 says:

If there is any silver lining – it is we are one gmae closer to the end of the Willie “Brains’” Randolph era.

    • caitmo says:

Well i’ve got the pads and rockies games open on the gamecasts… mets fans all we can hope for now is to back into the WILDCARD and save some embarrassment of a total collapse. Then again, peavy’s on the mound and and the dodgers will roll over, see you in spring training boys, its officially football season!!

  433. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

“i still believe in my guys.” willie, do they believe in you?

  434. longtimesufferingmetsfan says:

at this point what is worse. they somehow hang on and get into the playoffs, but go out meekly in the first round. the wilpons are then afraid to fire willie and we have to live thru his bad managing for another year

  435. D-Day says:

that magic number is just painful to look at, pull it down. might as well just show mr met giving it to the phanatic or the phanatic giving it to mr met from the rear. this sucks!

  436. caitmo says:

Sorry to break all your hearts, but Willie’s job in NY is done regardless of what this team does in the final four games and potential first round of the playoffs. It’s adios willie. Get ready for some new york yankee-esque spending by Omar this off season. Girardi, TORREor Bobby V to manage and hopefully AROD, AN ACE AND BULLPEN GALORE next year, thats all.

  437. cousinrk says:

Give me a break with this Willie stuff. Fire the damn players. Connie Mack couldn’t get any more outs from this group of bums. Enough already with the Willie stuff. 30 runs in three games at home to the worst offense in baseball, ITS THE FRIGGIN PLAYERS. Enough of this garbage.

  438. gottabelieve07 says:

Cerrone, where’s your post-game tonight? It’s glaringly absent.

Come on man, I know you’re in shock like the rest of us, but you deserve a good old fashioned rant.

    Let go!

  439. Darth Hernandez says:

That cannot happen… if this team doesn’t come through for him during this stretch they never will. He has to be gone, gone ,, gone..

I say this jokingly but wouldn’t it be nice if Willie go a mean case of the chicken pocks or something and wasn’t able to manage the club for the rest of the season.

  440. D-Day says:

give the reins to hojo or bring back bobby v from japan, anything but more willie. kick perterson to the curb too

  441. flrplxuc says:

    flrplxuc…

    flrplxuc…

  442. vorp_the_warp says:

Throw in Soriano and you’d have the worst 1-2-3 on base trio in history

  443. extrawhitemeat says:

    huh?
