Note: I’m Pumped for this Game
By Matthew Cerrone - Sep 27, 2007 3:32 pm

…i will be going to tonight’s game, and i am beyond pumped up…i love watching Pedro Martinez pitch, and this is the game he was brought here to pitch in, it’s just amazing to me that he’s getting the chance nearly three years later…but hey, better late than never…and he’s exactly the guy i want on the mound…i’m expecting a vintage-pedro performance, not just in results, but in his overall presence…not too mention, the Mets, on the verge of disaster, will be forced to look at the Cardinals, the team who ended their season roughly one year ago

…frankly, unless pedro’s arm falls off, which is always a possibility, he has to pitch for as long as he can…it should not be up for debate…seriously, this is it, man…whatever it takes…if he’s pitching well, but has thrown 100 pitches, who cares, leave him out there…like my buddy johnny g says, ‘one time me,’ petey…let’s do this…

…also, this is going to be a sloppy night…there is sporadic rain the forecast, and no time to make this game up between now and the end of the season…so, if it starts to rain, grab a book, folks, because nobody is going any place

by the way, i have been sent several e-mails demanding that i wear my lucky, polyester, old-school, racing-stripe1986 jersey…however, that jersey is for must wins…this is not yet a must win, which is a win-or-go-home scenario, not when up a game in the standings with four yet to play…

…i will say this, though, i have taken golden boy out of the closet, and have it spread out on the dresser, you know, just in case it is needed this weekend…

…anyway, if you spot me at tonight’s game, sitting a section or two off the field between first and right, please say hello…

I’m glad someone’s pumped for this game. I’m a nervous wreck!

    • ravi3 says:

Typically I live and die by this team, but right now, I am completely numb to it all..maybe its the effects of all the ups and downs over the few days, but I’m not nervous, anxious, afraid or excited. I’m sure that will change with the first pitch, but until then, it seems like a regular game in May. Hopefully the team doesn’t feel that way, because they definitely need this win for their psyche. It may not be a win or go home game as Matt said, but if by the time I go to bed, the Phillies are tied for the lead, I will be very pessimistic regarding our chances in 07.

    • WozzyBearRU says:

Yep….You can file me in the “anxious/nervous” category….

The Mets and their never-ending roller coaster ride have just completely taken over my emotions…All day and night…

  2. wynton says:

    Your optimism is truly impressive.

I don’t disagree about keeping Pedro in the game as long as he looks competent. But I predict that is not going to happen. I do not believe that management will permit him to go past six innings, seven tops, no matter how he does.

    • mrose says:

if he SOMEHOW has only 75 pitches going into the 7th, I think he would go later.

    • Cerrone says:

It’s not easy, but, “I Wanna Believe,” and I do.

What can I say? I’ve always been an optimist.

    • ravi3 says:

FYI, they started emailing winners for the NLCS lottery, which at this point seems like an awful call given the state of the team right now…Can’t they at least wait to see if we even get in?

Meanwhile, given that I was a raffle winner, I have full confidence that its going to be a long and empty october.

  3. metsmike1203 says:

i cant decide between going to the game, watching it in my apartment, or at the usual bar/restaurant. went monday and tuesday.. i dunno i if i can take it being there again. decisions, decisions.

  4. Nightlife says:

I’m going to bust out my weathered Mets Martinez tee and drink beer.

    Lots of beer.

  5. skillsets says:

Matt, honestly, bless your soul. I am fairly confident that you will be the only person at Shea Stadium tonight who will be “beyond pumped up.”

I don’t know how you do it.

    • SNK says:

Actually, I’ll be at the game tonight too…and i am beyond pumped up!!

      Optimism is fun…

    • gbaked says:

I am watching the game from a bar… where not only will I be beyond pumped up, but I will beyond pumped full of cheep beer…

Seriously… what is wrong with all of you!!!!!

this is baseball… yeah, fun… we had a big lead… now we dont… waa waa waa… go cry me a river

willie is a bad strategic manager… waa waa waa… well guess what… he still sports the word mets against his chest… so I got his back

the guys are playing like we want them to play… waa waa waa… the fans have been bigger wimps then the players have the past couple games… being all quiet and leaving early (and yes, i am guilty of this… and feel awful for doing it… i will never, ever, never leave a game early again)

We are still in first, so destiny is still in our hands and will be till we are no longer in first.

We have one of the best pitchers of all time pitching for us tonight

our postseason goes through the very hands that took last years postseason away from us

      this is awesome…

      This is baseball

This is why we love the game!

ANYONE WHO IS THERE TONIGHT THAT IS NOT GIVING OUR BOYS ALL THE SUPPORT THEY CAN GIVE AND LAYS DOWN TO TAKE IT SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES… THATS NOT HOW MET FANS SUPPORT THE TEAM

For the season boys… its time for some baseball!

      • gbaked says:

should have said the guys are NOT playing like we want them to play… waa waa waa… the fans have been bigger wimps then the players have the past couple games… being all quiet and leaving early

      • baseballdad says:

I am not giving up on them no matter what. I will still love this team. To me giving up on them and leaving a game early shows no support. Two nights ago down by 7 runs they almost pulled off an improbable come back. Would have been nice if 45000 fans were cheering like crazy in stead on the few that were left. Point is no matter what I will cheer them to the end even if they rip my heart out.

  6. stickguy says:

Not a good day for rain, unless it was severe enough to wash the game out. If they had to play it, it would be held Monday (pushing the WC play ins back even farther!)

The bad thing about the rain is losing your starter. What if they play 3, then have a 2 hour delay? Pedro isn’t likely to go back out.

Everyone needs to be available today just in case. That includes Maine and Glavine.

Tommy boy isn’t slated to go again until Sunday, right? Let him take a couple of emergency innings. He’s retireing anyway, it won’t kill him! Throw Pelfrey too if need be.

Hey, at least Mota is rested. Maybe even Sosa.

  7. NY Cuban says:

I’m nervous and I am pumped. I had to give up my tickets for tonight for parents night. I was going to bail on parent’s night if it was a potential clincher, and even take my son, but I’ll be a good fan and cheer from home and get ready to be there the next two days. Come on Petey, keep us in here! LETS GO METS! Enjoy the game guys.

  8. SheaVendor says:

Nervous here too. Plus tonight is my bowling night. So, I’ll probably bowl like crap because I’ll keep running over to the TV at the bowling alley. I’m wearing my David Wright jersey so all the yankee fans there can KMA!!

    LETS GO METS!!!

  9. RetireNumber17 says:

Yeah, Pedro needs to pitch until his arm falls off. The damn thing is, that should’ve been Randolph/Peterson’s tack with ALL their starters going back a month. Too many times they pulled a guy who’d been pitching well, either to save their arms, or pump up his freaking confindence, or whatever–when it was obvious to everyone that their bull pen was not cutting it. Randolph/Minaya/Peterson should’ve been operating with urgency at least a month ago. That’s why they’re in this mess now.

Strangely enough, though, I still think they’re gonna be in the playoffs when this is all over…

  10. mrose says:

i’ll be on a plane starting at 8:20pm EST…I hope by the time I get on the plane, its 10-0 METS!! LOL, I can wish right??? right????

I won’t land until almost 2am EST in Las Vegas, NV….

COME ON GUYS WHEN I BRING UP THE RSS FEED ON MY BB, I WANT GOOD THINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • SheaVendor says:

A 10-0 lead (unless Pedro goes deep into the game) is not safe with this bullpen!

      • ScottN says:

I’d normally say that’s an exageration, but that’s right. And it’s why the rest of the team is pressing right now. Because even when the Mets have a lead, guys don’t think it’s big enough. Players feel they have to be perfect in the field, making both routine and extrordinary plays, because the pitching can’t cover up any mistakes.

Wagner’s performance yesterday really shot what little was left. A 2nd straight poor outing in a crucial moment. Scott Schoenweis the “ace” of the Mets bullpen. Not good.

    • Chris Jelic says:

If you were flying Airtran you could listen to the game on the plain.

    • FBones24 says:

      Why…so they can end up losing 11 – 10?

  11. zen says:

4 games left. these are playoff games.

the crowd needs to wake up at shea tonight. it has been pathetic lately. i understand the same is true of the team’s play, but let’s pick it up tonight. no matter what happens. from the first pitch.

this team can’t do it alone. they’re depressed (like some of their fans). no speech will help them. they need that energy from the crows as with last year’s playoffs.

we have 6 months to complain.

    • ScottN says:

Crowds are reactive beasts. It’s very hard to create energy that your team is not giving you. While 400 die hard fans may get up and cheer, it’s hard to get 40,000 to do it when there’s nothing to cheer about.

I’d love to believe differently, but the Mets are going to have to win a game to bring the excitment back to Shea. We win tonight, and tomorrow’s crowd will be rocking (especially if Smoltz can tame the Phils).

Until then, I don’t think you’re going to see playoff intensity out of the crowd.

  12. pete says:

Im beggin you or someone to challenge this damn team to come out and show some anger, some raw emotion and some fight. Maybe than the fans will get behind them and we can get this thing going in the right direction.

Its gross, there is no pride. There has been little to no fight all season, whether its Brad Penny challenging Sean Green or Jimmy Rollins calling them out.

Where is the damn swagger?? Does anyone on this team want to stand up, pound their chest and pretend to be a man!

We need someone to throw at someone who walks out of the box (Beliiard) or run over a catcher instead of dogging slide after slide. It has to come from somewhere – why not start with you???

Last I checked normal human instinct – when your backed in a corner and your fighting for your life – you come out swinging, and you do whatever it takes, punch, kick, bite, stab or shoot to survive and be the last man standing.

Believe it or not, It has to start with the fans and this terrible atmosphere (well deserved at Shea – its been gross baseball) at Shea – plain and simple. The phils have been treating this like its there post season and we need to start doing the same to inject some life into this pathetic effort.

  13. geoff hayton says:

I have an anti-lucky object that I’m not sure what to do with, and don’t say “blow it up” or “set it on fire” or something.

The batting glove Beltran wore for the last pitch of last postseason. You know the pitch I’m talking about. I bet just reading this you can see it in your mind without my even having to say “Wainright.”

My uncle was one of many cameramen for the NLCS, saw it in the dugout floor among the trash, spit, and seeds, long after the game was over, and snagged it without even noticing the “15″ on it.

There has to be something good to do with it, but I don’t know what. The last time it was worn, evil happened. I have not put it on.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

      Mail it to Jimmy Rollins.

    • MetsFaninOH says:

You are our Frodo. You must go to the game tonight. At the game you must reach the St.Louis dugout and throw it at Tony “I am wasted behind the wheel” LaRussa. The glove will burn up and the Mets will be set free to win it all this year.

      Hurry Frodo, time is short.

  14. mikeski says:

Heh, “Golden Boy”. Bring home a win, Matt. I am seriously considering bringing out my own ‘86 Strawberry jersey.

    • toomanyuniforms says:

      I’m going to break out mine. . . .

      • ScottN says:

I am wearing the most horribly ugly polyester Mets tie that I’ve had since 1991. I wear it only on opening day and during the playoffs to work. They need mojo more today then they will in the playoffs. Come the playoffs, hopefully they’ll get their game back, and it won’t be about luck. Tonight, as they completely fall apart, they need luck.

Matt, bring it out. Hey, maybe I’ll wear my 1986 road jersey and the wonder twin powers can activate…

Form of–a pitcher who can get a friggin’ out…

        • wilson1 says:

I will be sitting in a completely darkened room, wearing blue and orange face paint, listening to the Doors song ‘The End,’ while drinking a case of bourbon and watching the game with the sound muted.

        • gbaked says:

          wilson1…

          wow

  15. toomanyuniforms says:

Funny, but I’m really not nervous. I feel like more losses would just be more of same. The embarrassment is over — it’s just reality now. Anything positive is gravy. Go get ‘em, Pedro! I’m unable to go to the game, but if I were, I’d feel like this would be a great night to be really loud — what do you have to lose? Imagine being able to say you were there the night the Mets’ players said the fans’ enthusiasm pushed them over the top. . . .

  16. admiralc42 says:

let’s be honest with ourselves – what we think, what we say, and what we do tonight will have no bearing on this game, unless of course you’re at shea, in which case you need to back this team 100%. this blog serves us one purpose, so we mets fans can come together, talk, trash, bash, and share our love for this team. right now, it may seem like the sky is falling, but if it weren’t it wouldn’t be our mets, the team we all love.

tonight we’ve got petey, and as matt said, this is the game we signed him for. strangely enough, after all the hoopla and the hype, after the surgeries and rehab, analysis and further analysis, after all of that, after 158 games, we’ve reach this point and there is no one, NO ONE else i’d rather have pitching tonight.

i’m feeling good about tonight and thereafter. 1 up with 4 to play, we control our destiny – SATURDAY is the day

  17. NYsMaineMan says:

Go get ‘em Matt….enjoy yourself, and as always, Let’s go Mets!

  18. HoJo20 says:

I’ll see you there Matt! I’m excited too, but a nervous wreck. The Mets always make you sweat it out. Last year was an anomaly. Now all I can do at this point is cheer for them as loudly as I can. And everyone else at Shea tonight needs to do the same. Ya Gotta Believe! Lets Go Mets!

  19. Metlomaniac says:

I have complete confidence in Pedro, if he can get through the 6th, we’ll be in good shape. Patch together the 7th, and let Heilman and Wagner finish it off. Smoltz will beat the Phils, so things will look a lot brighter tomorrow.

  20. Nightlife says:

Oh yeah, I gotta also bust out my “lucky” ‘86 trucker style Mets cap.

They need to wear the pinstripes tonight too.

  21. Krusty The Klown says:

id pleasure myself to a pedro perfect game :)

  22. backinbusiness says:

i just noticed that steve trachsel is pitching for the cubs (just started). by the time the pads-brewers game starts trachsel is guaranteed to have lost and the brewers will be dying to win.

    LETS GO METS
    LETS GO BRAVES
    LETS GO BREWERS
–hey, if the above happens, i’m good w/the rox taking out the phils–

    • stickguy says:

No, you want the Rockies to lose too. Don’t take any chances.

So, Go D’backs! And whoever the Rockies play tonight.

Too bad the series is in COlorado, not Ariz. But, the Rox are due to lose a game eventually, right?

  23. Constnza81V2.0 says:

I’m not going to say you gotta believe. I gotta believe what? A team that controls its own destiny with four games to play will make the playoffs? The only thing I believe is that the Mets are in control. It’s time they believe that as well.

With that said, there’s been a lot of talk on this blog the past two years that Pedro earned his paycheck after his first season here at Shea. I used to agree. But I think it’s safe to say, win tonight and put this team back on track, and THAT is what he’s getting paid to do…

    Let’s go mets.

  24. stickguy says:

talk about crunch time, the magnitude of tonights games is huge. Met win, Phils loss, 2 game lead nad a collective release of tension, and they will probably destroy the marlins this weekend.

Met loss, Phils win, and the level of panic (fans and the team) may be unmeasurable.

both win or lose, and we are st the same place as right now, but the phils could be getting real iffy for the WC.

For everyone tha compalined about it being too easy last year, and wanting to see meaningful games in Sept., well, your wish has been granted.

    • ScottN says:

I for one, did not complain. I will be sending my Prilosec OTC bills to everyone who did, though…

    • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

considering my general health in the passed couple of weeks i now know i was right last year when i said i was happy the mets were playing no meaningful games down the stretch and the earlier you clinch the better.

  25. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

regardless of what im wearing ill be drowning myself in beer, much like the last two nights bc if they lose i will not be able to fall asleep sober…..signs of alcoholism? maybe

  26. Xavier22 says:

With the luck the Mets have been having, Pedro will pitch brilliantly for 3 innings, holding the Cards to 1 hit, while the Mets offense tacks on 5 runs. Then the rain will come, delay the game for 2 hours, forcing Willie to go to Sele once the game resumes at 12am. Mets go on to lose 8-5 at around 3am.

    • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

haha if that happened theres no way id be able to sleep for the couple of hours before work that would be a nightmare.

    • stickguy says:

      Heretic.

I will be at back to school night from 7-9, so by the time I get out and fire up the radio (if I dare), we should have a pretty good idea how the night is going.

FYI, there is talk of thunderstorms in Phila. too tonigtht, but scattered. Just hope the don’t interfere with Smoltz! Hey, has he ever tossed a no hitter? If not, perfect time to get one!

  27. SodaPopinski says:

the way i look at it, tongiht is the big one.

if the mets can gain a game on the phillies to make it 2 up with 3 to play, they will be in great shape. Tonight is their biggest window to do so with pedro vs. pinero and smoltz vs. eaton

if pedro can give the performance of his met career and the braves bats do what they should be able to do against eaton, we could all sleep A LOT easier tonight

tonight is our window…lets get it done. GO METS

  28. Bobby V says:

I just hope the typical pedro start crowd shows up for the game tonight, staying into it for all 9 innings. The players always say the feed of the energy and electricity of the crowd. Lately, shea has been dead, which is understandable, but needs to be changed. Stay in it for all 9 no matter what happens tonight. If they still play like garbage, then we can boo for the rest of the season.

  29. Chris Jelic says:

In other circumstances, praying for wins behind Pedro Martinez (against a mediocre rookie) and John Smoltz (against Adam Eaton) wouldnt feel like asking for so much, but tonight, I feel like I’m asking for a baseball miracle. Sad.

    • ScottN says:

This Mets team has stunk it up all year against mediocre rookie pitchers. Your prayers are quite valid, especially with the potential for rain to shorten both Smoltz and Pedro’s outings.

    • dave27 says:

Joel Piniero is hardly a rookie, but I hear you.

  30. 07champs says:

I don’t think the bullpen will make it past the national anthem tonight, but I’m always hopeful.

  31. gomets6091 says:

I’m gonna be driving up to NY from DC after my last class at 9:30 tonight, so I’m probably gonna miss the last few innings of the game (I follow it during class with statracker)….anyone have any idea how far the signal for WFAN carries? I actually got it down here one time when the Giants were playing, but haven’t been able to get it since then. I’m gonna keep checking 660 AM every 10 minutes on my drive. Hopefully they’ll be up 10-0 by the time I leave!

    • Chris Jelic says:

At night, it’s good if you’re not under power lines. I can get FAN in listenable quality in NoVa. As you move up through Maryland, it should become very clear. In other words, the sound quality will probably be better than the information conveyed.

      • ScottN says:

Chris is right on. I get the FAN loud and clear in my driveway in Arlington, VA after the sun goes down. You may get a little static here and there, but you should be able to catch just about all of it during your drive.

    • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

      chris mulrain?

      • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

i get it very clear at night in baltimore, ive listened to games while driving home to NY before.

        • dcmetsfan says:

Yeah, I get WFAN pretty loud and clear at my house in Bethesda once the sun sets. In my car, it’s even more clear, so you should have no problem getting the game. And if worse comes to worse, at least you have 1500 to listen to – which is a little more bareable than the tv side of things.

        • dcmetsfan says:

Man, the Mets have played so many games against the Nats lately that I forgot they’re playing the Cards. D’oh!

  32. narcyfour says:

how the hell can the jersey work?????

If its for must wins, then you must have worn it in the “must win” in game seven last year…..and we didn’t win.

Forget all this superstitious nonsense, if it worked than Turk Wendell would be closing for the yanks right now.

    • ScottN says:

Yes, we should be depending on the Mets bullpen quality instead. I’ll stick with my magic polyester Mets tie, thank you very much.

  33. stickguy says:

FAN goes pretty far, certainly to the end of Jersey, but the weather may cause interference tonight.

I figured out the best game plan. Score the usual early runs, and have Pedro throw a strong 5, and pray for raing then call the game ASAP so they can avoid the pen!

Maybe instead of winging it, they should draw up a plan matrix, bsed on the situation (score, inning, etc.) which BP guy is going when. Might help Willie keep things straight!

And if this is a lefty, LM better be in there instead of Gomez. I can’t believe Willie would let his doghouse dictate who plays as opposed to which player gives them the best chance to win.

    • stickguy says:

Checked, he’s a righty. Sean Green, your time has come!

    • dave27 says:

That was the game plan last Friday in Florida, and the umpires still made us come back out.

Best hope for today is the Cardinals simply don’t want to be here. The must’ve got in late last night with a flight beckoning tonight and absolutely nothing to play for.

    • ScottN says:

Hasn’t Lastings been serving his suspension? I thought that’s why he was out of the lineup. I don’t think it was a doghouse issue.

      • stickguy says:

That finished early this week. Now he is sitting because either he is in Willie’s doghouse, or Willies gut doghouse. Not sure if there is a difference.

  34. metman80 says:

    I’m going, I’m psyched.

About to turn on Enter Sandman, blast it in the office, then run to the elevator!!

  35. dave27 says:

1 game up with 4 to go, and solid outings by 2 1st Ballot HOFers tonight from going up 2 with 3 to go.

    Could be worse.

Now if we can just retire a leadoff batter….

  36. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

what is opponents BA with RISP these past two weeks? 1.000?, i mean its hard to outscore opponents with stats like that.

  37. icedrake523 says:

If Pedro gets knocked out of the 4th inning, I think you can stick a fork in our season.

    • ScottN says:

You know, we all keep making predictions like that, and yet we live to see another day. As tough as it is, Yogi was right. When we’re officially eliminated, it will be done. Baseball is a funny game in that, because it’s played day-to-day, you never really know when a losing streak will end and a winning streak begins.

Also, while I would doubt it, I could easily see the relaxed and confident Nationals go to Philly and knock them around, too. I tend to think not because the Nats have really achieved all their goals, 4th place is clinched, better record than last year, and knocked the 1st place team right back into the race. Not as much motivation in Philly.

That said, only lose all hope when all hope is lost.

  38. Chris Jelic says:

The worst thing about the way we’re losing, is you can’t let go of the anxiety. If we were in a scoring drought, then a 3 run first would be very promising. Instead, we go up early and I can’t even crack a smile. It does help that we’re never out of a game because we’re hitting well, but that doesn’t make up for the fact that you can’t rest easy until the 9th inning, or later, if at all.

    • ScottN says:

That is so right on. No lead is safe, every out is precious. It’s like playoff baseball in the Bizarro world. Every pitch is tense, but there is no enjoyment in it, just fear of failure.

  39. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

wow i just asked my friend considering pedros going and theres alot of hype and pressure if he lays an egg would you say the season is over? mathematically its clearly not but that would be the biggest blow to this teams psyche ever and with 3 games left they might not recover

ps: gomets6091, are you chris mulrain?

  40. InsaneMetsFan says:

Does amybody know what it’s like to root for a winning team?? I’m just asking because I’m 29 and I’m a life long Mets fan but I haven’t been able to root them to a Championship yet.

I was 8 years old in 1986, so I really don’t have a clear memory of that year, but I certainly remember drying myself to sleep after the 1988 NLCS.

    Other things I remember:

-Feeling horrible after the 2000 World Series at the thought that Mike Piazza and John Franco would never win Championships as Mets

-Kenny Rogers walking in the series ending run in the 1999 NLCS

-Armando Benitez blowing 2 crucial saves versus the Braves late in the 2001 season as the Mets attempted to stage a miracle comeback in the wake of 9/11

-the day Jim Duquette traded Scott Kazmir, I contend to this day that Kazmir would have never started a game for the Mets because a smart GM would have used Kazmir to trade for Tim Hudson during the offseason.

    -Suffering through the 90’s

Why do we all suffer?? Why can’t this team, loaded with talent pull one out for us, the fans who support them while the owner robs us blind and never ever goes the extra mile (or dollar) to sign players.

I JUST WANT TO SEE THE NEW YORK METS WIN A WORLD SERIES!!!!!!!!!!

‘86 was sweet, sweet stuff. But as Bart Giamatti said, it’s a game designed to break your heart.

    • stevehendu says:

I mentioned this a few days ago but we’ve never been in a position like this before.

What do I mean by that?

In 87..we didn’t do what we could’ve done and not really in it throughout. it was a struggle.

In 89 they dismantled the team. No expectations in September

In 2000, we exceeded expectations by getting to the series.

      2001, we were already old.

And here we are now…we have been in first since May with a team we all thought was built to be in first, two years in a row, we expect them to be in the nlcs two years in a row and we expect them to exceed next year. we knew going into 86 how good we were, and we had the same feeling last year. But back to back years. I don’t think, as Met fans, we ever had a full season of high expectations following a season like last year. I think this has been the worst.

I hate to tell you Matt, but tonight is a must win night. If Mets lose and Phillies win, “…it’s over Johnny….”

  42. stevehendu says:

Half a pedro gutting this out could be real special. I’m absolutely freaking out and massively pumped at the same time. But it should be interesting if we get a lead quick. The crowd could be very subdued. That Alou rumble last night after his oppo jack was awesome. The team needs us to be super loud.

  43. stickguy says:

Anderson loses his appeal, out tonight and tomorrow.

The good news just keeps coming!

  44. DjDeF says:

F* Lucky Shirts, F* Lucky Hats, F* Weird Ties, F* the Mets gear. Get to the damn game and be loud whether this team is up 10 or down 10. Get loud and get behind everyone on this team. If Mota comes out of the pen cheer the man. Encourage him, Feliciano, Joe Smith, Show, and Sosa. Lets will this damn team to the victory. Forget what is going on in Philly and lets gets this game tonight.

    LETS GO METS
    LETS GO METS
    LETS GO METS
    LETS GO METS
    LETS GO METS

  45. Trumpzilla says:

I’ll be quiet in deference to others from the start, but once they fall behind it’s gonna be lots of BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

    And they’ll deserve it

  46. Trumpzilla says:

Could you all stop talking up the crowd intensity as if it means something? The crowd was bonkers in NLCS game 7 last year what did it matter?

If my cheering is so vital, Omar can cut me a check for my services when I enter the stadium.

  47. admiralc42 says:

here we are – after 155 games, we’ve come full circle with the cards. from that opening 3 game sweep, after the next 155, we need it more than ever. dwright and co. talked about getting back at them, well tonight’s the night. what a story line – ya gotta believe

  48. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

i bet the cardinals would love to end our season, if the met players wanted another shot at the cardinals this year, they got it, funny the way things work out.

  49. caitmo says:

I hope Willie…. okay, we know he won’t take charge of a situation, let me change that. I hope one of the players reminds Jose that these birds mocked him and sang his chant at shea after game 7 of last year, maybe that will wake the kid up, instill a tiny sense of anger and determination to actually play baseball and forget his reggaeton dancing in order to actually make a difference in tonights game! Lets go Jose! WAKE UP

  50. caitmo says:

I swear if I see any laughing, handshakes or dancing on the top steps of their dugout while they’re losing, make that AT ALL, i’m going to…. going to…. do absolutely nothing, but probably bitch about it on metsblog later tonight.

  51. icedrake523 says:

This is a must win game. If we lose, then the Phillies could tie us which is not good.
