…what…is…going…on…here…well, as of 9:42 pm eastern time, there is a flat-footed tie in the National League East with three games to play…for the first time since May 16th, the Mets do not have sole ownership of first place…i can’t believe i’m typing this, really…
…Pedro Martinez pitched as well as we could have hoped for…he went seven innings, allowing three runs, two earned, while striking out eight…an uncharacteristic error by Luis Castillo led to a first-inning run...that was all the Cards would need…the only times Martinez was beat tonight was with fastballs up, but that was few and far between, really…he pitched well enough to win, but the Mets offense went down without much of a fight against Pineiro…not even a whimper…shameful…
…was that Paul Lo Duca double-play ball in the fifth a killer or what…in the at-bat before him, if Carlos Delgado could have somehow made it to second base, it could have been a very different inning, but these are the kind of things that happen when you are collapsing like the Mets are right now…Carlos Beltran‘s blast down the line in right during the seventh, yet another example…this is very difficult to watch, and i don’t blame the crowd for being deflated…
…just a sidenote…sorry, but this Kevin James “Let’s Go Mets” chant has to go…it’s awful and abrasive and has no sort of discernable rhythm…
…Luis Castillo is showing a lot of emotion in the dugout, but he’s not being the player that got him here…he is taking way too many pitches…i mean, he struck out three times yesterday and had horrible at-bats tonight…don’t even get me started on Reyes…very frustrating…
…honestly, i’m not sure what to say at this point…it feels as if the fans have lost faith in this team just as the players may have lost faith in themselves…the only thing we can do at this point is to hope for the best…with three games to go, the Mets have to play with a clean slate…even though tomorrow will be game # 160, they have to play it like its game #1…otherwise the Mets season will be over come Sunday…
