Pedro Martinez, talking to reporters after last night’s game, regarding whether or not he will pitch again this season…
“I could pitch tomorrow if I have to. If it’s one game, I’ll have my cleats on. Whatever we have to do we have to. My arm, thanks to God, has responded well. I’m supposed to throw on the side in two days and that’ll be good enough to get one inning, two innings, whatever, I’ll have my cleats on from now on.”
…ding, ding, ding…attention…attention…all hands on deck…if you wear a Mets uniform, and will be in the dugout, and you have an arm, be ready to pitch…i repeat…all hands on deck…

3 innings for pedro and 3 innings for duque on monday if need be. that sends chills down my spine.
all hands on deck!
but are they just rearranging the chairs?
Thats the attitude we need, everybody should be available this is the season. We can still do it and I hope everyone will try and make it to Shea to show them we haven’t given up
I Still Believe!!!!!
want to admit something that I thought I would never even think of saying, after the met loss and watching a glimpse of the phillies finishing off the braves, CBP was explosive, everybody was waving around their white towels it actually hit home and reminded me of Shea last year. You might even say I grew jealous to see the phillies what the Mets once were. We need that tonite, we need a sold out shea, we need the shea faithful. SELL OUT SHEA SELL OUT SHEA
being at the game yesterday, i felt exactly the same when i came home to see that. what happened to shea?
This is the Pedro we all know and love. Pedro, please rally the troops.
I’m listening to “take me to your leader” by the Newsboys. I think he has just entered the building!
my coach said the same thing haha, “if you can throw, you are now a pitcher”
This is the attitude this team needs, I love Pedro. Hopefuly he can inspire everyone else to just loosten up.
You know who else needs to loosten up, the fans. Get to Shea people!
I firmly believe we’ll be going into Sunday’s game tied. Glavine is slated to start. Personally, I’d much rather have the clutch El Duque start. What do you all think? (and have glavine and pedro ready for a one game playoff)
Play every game as if it your last. Don’t plan for Monday
But what do you prefer: Glavine or El Duque to pitch the pivotal Sunday game?
Glavine.
I keep Pelfrey and ElDuque ready this weekend in case I need 2-3 innings out of a reliever.
Maine makes me nervous. I’d have a quick hook with him.
Sunday, everybody is a reliever. Worry about Monday or Wednesday when they get here.
After seeings the fans at Shea the last two nights, I am starting to beleive what Hershiser said last night on ESPN, that the Mets fans have been “outfanned” by the Phillies fans. if you see that stadium this week, it is a madhouse. Where are the Mets fans in all of this? I wish I could go to the game every night this week.
By the way I like Hershiser as a player (while on the Mets, he was a bulldog) and as a commentator. While all the guys on Baseball Tonight were pretty much counting the Mets out, he was the only one who was rooting for the Mets to make it, mentioning his time with the Mets several years ago and believing in their ability to do pull it off.
I’m sorry, that is complete crap by Hersheiser. Crowds and fans are reactive. They emulate the performance of their team. Phillies fans were out of it, and have the unbridled joy of a surprise run to the playoffs. It’s exciting, it’s thrilling.
The Mets had it in the bag, and are now collapsing. Exactly what is it that would make you want to scream and shout about that? If the situation was reversed, do you think Citizens Bank Park would be all full up and everyone screaming and cheering? Of course, not–it would be 10 times worse than Shea because we all know how Phillies fans are. There would be 20,000 booing maroons ready to pounce on every mistake.
It’s the relative situation, not the fans. I guarantee you that if Sunday rolls around and the Mets have a chance to clinch, there will be 56,000 wild and crazy Mets fans at Shea, making Phillies fans look like church mice.
Well put.

If the situation was reversed, it would just be another typical season of Phillies baseball.
I watched his comments as well and thought he was right on target. Not everyone can get to the game but if you’re going to go, why not make some noise? I switched back and forth between the Philly game and ours and wow, what a difference. It’s harder to be loud when you’re losing like this, and a lot easier to go crazy when your team is on a roll, but that’s what being a fan is all about.
All I can say is “for all of us blessed enough to have witnessed Mookie’s slow roller go through Buckner’s legs” is that there are such things as baseball miracles….The Mets certainly have had their share….this weekend will be no different….It will go to the last game…but one Met will walk away a hero very much like Boone did with the Yankees in 2003….”Failure is not an option!”
playoffs start today!

Whether you are going to the games or not this weekend, I think if all Mets fans who are down on the team and have this negative thinking would turn it around into positive thinking, we can turn it around. I believe in positive thinking. Too many Mets fans being negative!!! Lets do this! Lets go Mets! Come on!
A win tonight would go far in restoring the faith.
I’ve been mostly keeping it to myself lately, but I fail to see how me being negative while watching the game at home last night has anything to do with anything… The fans that go to the park are one thing, but the rest of us?
I find it a tough to be critical of the fans who’ve decided to give up on this team because basically this team gave up on its fans this year. mediocre to awful play at home all year, and then when crunch time hits they play like one of the worst teams in baseball for two weeks. I have not been given much joy or entertainment by this years team. So maybe they can find it in their hearts to summon up a little desire and give us fans one fun month this year.
guys, for three days, stop being negative nannies. for three days. then you can be the biggest most pissed off fans that ever walked the earth all hot stove.
but for now. come. on. guys. lets go mets. come on. lets go mets.
I’m drained. As a fan, I live and die with this team, but I feel like I show more emotion than the players do. I get more upset when they lost then most of the players. As a fan, thats frustrating. Last night may have done more to take me out of it than anything. You want me to cheer? Give me something to cheer about, and I’ll yell and scream until my voice goes out. I’m sitting here at work in Mets jersey, desperate for something to cheer about. But if the Mets dont want to get it up, why should I?
Where is Pelfrey in all of this? Its unlikely that he’s going to start on Sunday like he would have if they had clinched by then. So now is he in the pen, or is he being saved for Monday or Tuesday? Hopefully they use him in the pen instead of bury him for the next 3-5 days.
The Cubs are turning into the luckiest team in the NL this year
Hey. First post here, but I think its time to make a statement. I saw this as I was reading the blog, and thought we need to get behind it. We don’t always agree, but in the end we all want the same thing. All I can say is Lets Go Mets…
from the post game thread:
“I know things are rough. I know we get on them all about everything we do wrong, but at 7:10 every night, we need to get behind them and finish this out strong. So, I ask of you, if you have tickets for the final 3 games, use them. If you can’t find, a Mets fan who wants to go and give them up. If you don’t have tickets, get on Mets.com and pay the $9 for upper reserve and go make Shea stadium rock like its never rocked before. If you want better seats, go on craigslist and buy up some of the corporate seats that are empty. All I am saying is people always complain that they get locked out of the playoff tickets because of this stupid lottery…well, here is your chance to go to the playoffs. This is a 3 game playoff series. You can be there. You have the option. It should only cost you $9 +fees if you really want to be there. If you really are a fan. Its going to be a beautiful weekend. Take the family, take a friend, take a lover…just go and make some noise. This team has been too good to us to let them down after 158 games…
Now…everybody get ready…LETS GO METS, LETS GO METS, LETS GO METS
PS. Notice there wasn’t a “hoot” in between. Its real simple, and it should start every inning for 27 outs for just 3 more days in September.”
As Mets fans we may not be able to play on the field but we sure as hell can cheer with the best of them. Get out to Shea and show this team and suddenly this country what real New York fans are like.
Lets Go Mets!
As I said earlier, fans are not cheerleaders, they are fans. We reflect the play of our team. If the Mets show some fight, so will the fans. Mets fans want to cheer, they want to be supportive–they got pretty loud when we went up 4-0 and 6-2 against the Nats. But the Mets took the air out of the baloon.
We love the team too much to not have their struggles affect our attitude. They worry, we worry. They doubt, we doubt. They show some heart, I guarantee you, so will they.
But, after all this, to expect Mets fans just to go out and get wild and crazy, blind to what’s happened over the past two weeks, is unrealistic, and unfair to the fans and what makes them fans.
As Captain Picard said,
“They invade our space, and we fall back. They assimilate countless worlds, and we fall back. Not again. Not this time. The line must be drawn here! This far, no farther! And I will make them pay for what they have done!”

YA GOTTA BELIEVE!!!!!!
Let’s Go Mets!!!!!!!!
so if anybody didn’t get it, let me paraphrase…
They invade our space, and we fall back (the Phillies beat the Mets at Shea).
They assimilate countless worlds, and we fall back. (The Phillies keep winning vs. other teams, as the Mets lose)
Not again. Not this time. The line must be drawn here! This far, no farther! And I will make them pay for what they have done!” (this speaks for itself)
Trekkie lol
Star Trek and Mets–worlds…colliding…
