Quote: There is Still Baseball to Play

by Matthew Cerrone on September 29th, 2007 at 9:54 am

Paul Lo Duca, talking to reporters after last night’s loss…

“It’s tough.  Put it this way, I haven’t slept in two weeks.  It’s not fun.  It’s the worst I’ve ever felt with a baseball uniform on.  I know there’s people over in a war and people dying, and I know it’s just a game.  But professionally, for a game, this is as gut-wrenching as it can be.”

Moises Alou, talking to reporters after the game…

“We have to keep our heads up…and find a way in (to get in to the playoffs) no matter how.  That’s the sad thing about it.  We haven’t executed on the field.  We’re the Mets, a great team and we should be playing better than this.”

Jose Reyes, as quoted by the Daily News…

“It’s is hard to believe, no doubt.  But, there is still baseball left and who knows what’s going to happen the next two days?”

…naturally, last night, i got e-mails and a ton of comments from people demanding that i ‘keep it real,’ and ‘be honest,’ and ‘tell it like it is,’ which is hilarious to me…

…i am telling it like it is…with two games left there is still hope…it’s tiny hope, and it’s fading very fast, but it’s still hope nevertheless…again, as i have said, from me, you will not get overt criticism in crunch time…i don’t work that way…after the season, whenever that may be, the tone of this site will shift, as it always does, to the hot stove and to coming up with solutions to improve this team, while looking back on what went wrong and why…until then, though, i’m all about hoping for the best, because, like jose says, “there is still baseball left and who knows what’s going to happen the next two days.”…

Note: Today is a Big Day

by Matthew Cerrone on September 29th, 2007 at 9:43 am

If the Mets lose this afternoon, and the Phillies win, the Phillies will win the National League Eastern Division.

jeez, say that a few times and see if you don’t throw up

What’s worse, if the Mets lose this afternoon, and the Phillies and Padres both win later in the day, the season is over for the Mets, who will then officially be eliminated from all post-season opportunities.

Of course, if the Mets win today, and the Phillies lose, the two teams will be tied again for first place in the NL East with one game left to play on Sunday.

…this is all giving me a ridiculous headache, and a wicked stomach ache…seriously, i have never really been witness to anything like this before…

…it has been like standing on the side of the road, watching a potential traffic accident occur over two full weeks, and it’s all in super slow motion…every day, the car gets a little bit closer to the truck, spinning, sliding, and no matter how much i try to cover my eyes i can’t, i have to watch…

…turn the wheel, boys, hurry up, turn the wheel
