In a MetsBlog.com poll of more than 4,500 fans, now that the
Mets will not be in the post-season, 19 percent of the people polled will cheer for the Cubs; 14 percent will cheer for each of the Rockies and Red Sox; five percent will cheer for the Phillies; only 4 percent will cheer for the Yankees; less than one percent will cheer for each of the Padres, D’Backs and Angels; and 33 percent of those who responded do not care who wins, citing, “the season is over.”

I’ll have to throw my support behind the Cubbies. My girlfriend is a casual fan, and boy are they’re due…
I just won’t be as obsessive this time around.
I can’t believe the Yankees or Phillies got any votes. just can’t believe a true Mets fan would go that route. I’ll go Indians, at least for the first round, and who ever wins tonight in Denver, again at least for the first round.
these tbs broadcasters are disgusting, it feels like a regular game with these two bums, also these colorado fans disgust me, they dont deserve a playoff team, the mets fan base does
I disagree. I do not think Mets fans, who boo their own players so much, deserve a playoff team. Same with Yankee fans. There are some good fans but the majority do not deserve anything but the pain they feel right now. I’m hurting too but I didn’t sit here and rip the team all year either.
I mean Beltran was booed unmercifully. Then he’s cheered. Then he was booed again. It’s a “what have you done for me lately mentality”
Arod, over in the Bronx, wins an MVP, then gets booed like he was a Red Sox player then next year, now all of a sudden he’s the king.
The Rockies have had a tremendous attendance, I believe, for a team that has never been good. If the Mets or Yanks were that bad for so long, the attendance would drop.
uhhh remember back in 03? the mets had a much higher attendance then the yankees when the mets were bad and the skanks were good. and those players deserve the boos, they just completed the worst collapse in mlb history, i’d tell you noone would boo had they continued to win the division. its a love and hate relationship
That is one year. I’m saying if the Mets were NEVER good, like the Rockies have been. Yet the Rockies attendance has been great. They have NEVER been in a postseason game. Now that is support.
I mean look at this game. Up 3-0, give up a grand slam and another run. In a game, where if they loose they go home, and NO BOOING. In fact, they were cheering the team on to get through. Can you see the difference? It’s clear as day to me.
Some Mets were being booed while they were still in 1st. Way in 1st too. I mean Heilman was booed a ton this year. Yeah he gave up some big runs but he got a lot of big outs too. Beltran was booed so badly all year 2 years ago. They booed him in the 1st game of the year last season. Remember? After hitting a huge HR, he didn’t want to come out and acknowledge the fans but Franco urged him to. He shouldn’t have done it.
It’s NY, man, it’s always been that way – always will be. The best place to win, the worst place to underperform.
thats why mets fans are better they tell it like it is if they like the player like they did with jose last year he was embraced with tons of love but now hes become different and idk what wrong with him. and beltran was booed in the beginning of 06 because he was a HUGE HUGE disappointment in 05 the mets wetre the worst team EVER but in 69 every1 went to the playoff games, listen EVERY fanbase goes to playoff games (except the braves fans) im just sayin Shea would be ELECTRIC sure coors seems like it had a little fire but no way would shea be less electric than coors.
Id rather they support the team over the long haul. Beltran had a MONSTER year last year. But all people remember is that last at bat. There is such a thing as TOO critical. I appreciate fans who don’t boo all the time. Boo a player for not caring. Not because they struggle.
You know who else is disguting? You wife… I had to send her home last night. Please tell her to take a shower… Go braves…
Baseball is done. No “pet” teams to help lessen the pain. Take it like a man.
btw anyone think Frank Robinson coming out of the dugout screaming at an ump would make this team better?
I dunno…might be better than walking out….looking concerned saying a few words then walking back…..”hey whatcha gonna do?”
Next Year’s motto
“Put your faith in this team once more…we promise…we won’t do it again”
maybe, the guy I’m looking at right now the Mets passed over for manager in favor of Art Howe. Now this man has a young winning team on the rise and will be noted as one of the top managers in the game in a few years… Clint Hurdle. whoops! He’s sure be a better man for the Mets than a lot of the candidates mentioned lately (Carter, Girardi, etc)
and yea, I cant even get into this game at all.
Your season has gone…
I missed the poll, but I would root for a Cubs/Indians World Series with the Cubs finally winning. A Cubs/Phillies NLCS would be good, although I’m sure we’d all laugh like hell to see the Phils swept in the NLDS instead. Yeah, let’s see the Rockies or Padres beat the Phillies, Cubs beat the D-Backs, Cubs beat whoever, Red Sox beat the Angels, Cleveland beat the Yanks, and the Indians beat the Red Sox and the Cubs beating the Indians. Let’s face it, this is gonna be a lame postseason for Mets fans.
On a lighter note…
Stay or go….
Glavine—-too easy, bye bye.
Alou—- stay, he can flat out hit and at the worst he’s a great DH come playoff time.
Orlando Hernandez – stay – still a great big game pitcher if he is able to pitch.
Lastings – he’s cheap..has some pop…has a lot of ‘tude..stay…
Castillo – go – thanks but no thanks…maybe 4 years ago..
Pelfrey – with the upside he showed late in th season I say…go good trade value….trade high.
Humber – ?? inc.
Delgado – a lot will say go I say stay, probably not fully recovered from elbow surgery last year…will have something to prove…blah blah
Beltran – stay…heard Mike and the Dog discussing trades with him…please stfu…he’s a Met..
Green – go … nice finish to the season…but go.
Marlon Anderson – stay, make him a coach…keep him somehow…the guy’s a great positive energy.
Henderson – go…..far far away….
Endy – stay, do I even need to put him on this list?
agreed – but who plays 2nd? What about signing Eckstein to play 2B?
Gotay …could play 2B…maybe after some winter league…evaluate his talent then see…platoon him with a righty…
This is depressing. Kaz Matsui is closer to the playoffs than we are
The season is over for me but of the teams left I hope the Cubs make it. As bad as yesterday was, imagine waiting 99 years to win a World Series and 62 to appear in one. They deserve it.
Also, who are the 4% of Mets rooting for the Yankees? I don’t get the I like the Mets and Yankees thing. If you are a true fan of either team, you have dislike the other one in my book.
Trolls and lurkers. Skankee fans and Filthies fans. Can’t be Mets fans.
I would root for the cubs, always go for the national league teams. But if the Yankees play the phillies? I would have to root against the phillies more.
I hate the yankees. Hate their fans. But at this point i hate the phillies and their fans much more. Tha Yankees aren’t the ones who embarassed us this season.
Your right, the Mets are the ones that embarrassed us this season.
Ok you’re right.
The Mets are the ones who embarassed us this season, the Phillies are the ones who rubbed it in our faces.
Jimmy Rollins as quoted in the Daily News: “Do you know what it feels like to be right? It feels wet with champagne”
Let’s go Tribe!!!!
Yes, Mojo Risin. And there is such a thing as civic pride — as much as I wouldn’t root for the Yankees in a series against the Cubs, I sure as hell would rather see them win than the Phillies. I have grown to loathe them and their moronic drunken fans with a passion not seen in my mind since the 85-7 Cardinal fans.
Is it wrong to root for a “Black Sunday” scenario in which the stadium is blown up in any such nightmare world series as Skanks-Filthies?????
I’m rooting for the Cubbies all the way. If they get eliminated, then I root for whoever plays the Phillies. And that includes the Yankees. Now if you’ll excuse me, I just vomited in my mouth a little bit…
Nice memory, Joe.
But not liking the Yankees is way different than hating them and their fans.
Actually, the best road is probably indifference…that really gets hardcore Yankee fans steamed–when you refuse to engage them. In effect, you do not recognize their existence.
But if you do recognize their existence, then as a baseball fan, you must appreciate the play of guys like Jeter and Williams and O’Neil.
I think it’s not the Yankee team/players many Mets fans ‘hate’, but rather the arrogance of some fans.
No….no…its the team, the whole idea of buying the pennant back in the day to the latest run with the over the top announcers and the arrogance of the players …I don’t like them…never did never will…problem with the outfield? Buy Damon…Infield? Buy Giambi…Arod…Pitching? Clemens..Mussina…They had a cadre of talent and with their pornographic spending they continue to be in the mix. Make a mistake?…bury it in the backyard…don’t worry they’ll just pay of the constable..Randy Johnson… I can go on and on with them. So O’Neil? Hated him and his crybaby antics..
I DID LIKE WHEN CLEMENS NAILED PIAZZA… TURNED HIM GAY
seems like you have an obsession with all things gay – hmmm……
YEAH, LIKE THE METS FANS… DID I MENTION THEY ARE GAY?????
ARE YOU HIGH???? RECOGNIZE THEIR EXISTENCE???? ANYWAYS, METS AND YANKEES BOTH SUCK
its getting late – don’t you have to get up for grade school in the morning?
come on matt… time to get rid of this guy
leave things like this for the espn boards… this is metsblog…
Kaz Matsui is about to make the postseason
oh the irony
and Steve Phillips was right!
damn
and just imagine if we had Scott Kazmir
or Heath Bell
and Jeff Wilpon was behind each of these situations
can we ride him out of town on his horse?
Exactly. I admit that I hate the Yankees. But I also admit that the reason I them are their fans.
If I greew up somewhere in the midwest and some how came to like the Mets, I’m not sure if I would hate the Yankees as much if at all because I wouldnt constantly be surrounded by their fans like here in new york.
GO PHILS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
7 up with 17 to play…… YES…………………
Now talk about hate….this is going to steam all year….and that will make this team better….
Keep it up cheese dick……I’m gonna take this keyboard and bash you over the head….coming in after the fact to gloat…typical ..
YEAH LIKE LOSING ALL THOSE YEARS TO THE BRAVES MADE THE TEAM BETTER… NICE ONE YEAR RUN DUMBASS
7 UP WITH 17 TO PLAY… YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think Chase is a gay name don’t you think?
IS THAT YOUR PARTNER’S NAME?
don’t bother responding to the philly fans. ignore them. they live a fourth rate city.. is there any need to acknowledge them
Exactly. And don’t forget, Philly is the only city which needs a court and jail in the basement of its stadiums to deal with out of control fans.
I will be rooting for nobody.
Baseball season is over.
Let’s Go Rangers! This Thursday, preseason game at the Garden against Florida! Oh, baby!!!
you know the term “act like you’ve been there before”…
oh guess that can’t apply to phillies fans because they never have been there and won’t be there much longer…
go… angels anyone?
Yes, Go Angels!! I have always liked the Angels in the playoffs. First of all they seem to have the Yankees number, secondly, they beat Mad Dog’s Giants in the World Series, and thirdly, they have a monkey as a mascot. You can’t ask for anything more than a Rally Monkey!!
Boy, I missed watching the Mets last night.
I will be rooting hard for the stinking Phillies to lose the Rockies and the Yankees to lose to the Indians.
I don’t know if I can root for any team in the division series because watching TBS is TORTURE!
Anyway…way to go Jorge Julio!!!! I guess I’ll be rooting for the Padres.
After watching the Play-In game, WOW…Its good to watch real baseball again. The Mets were a sad excuse for baseball down the stretch…I had forgotten what good baseball was like. Double, Double, Triple off of Hoffman. What a choker!
I am rooting for the Yankees…
…to be humliated in the most extreme way possible. They’ve already faced the devastation of a collapse after being up 3-0 in a seven game series to their most hated rivals, let’s see a follow up. Oh, maybe a 21-0 sweep by the Indians in the first round would be fun.
I am a Met fan who grew up in the Bronx in the 1960s and I always hated the Yankees. I took so much abuse by them when the Mets were horrible but I stuck to my loyalties, and 1969 was the year I got to rub their noses in it. Oh, I don’t hate them individually as players – I must confess I have admiration for Mickey Mantle, Chris Chambliss, Roy White, Joe Torre, Lou Pinella, A-Rod, Matsui and Cano (that’s probably it actually) but I think Steinbrenner did more than any one single person to ruin the game of baseball. I date it back to the signing of Catfish Hunter – the big deal that more than ever before declared that whoever spends the most can buy a winning team. My beloved sport hasn’t been the same since.
So keep your 26 WS titles or whatever. There haven’t been any this century (yet), I’d like to see it stay that way for awhile longer.
I’ll be back in PHX for the D’backs series. It’d be easier to pull for my latest home team if they were AL. But now that the Mets are out, I’ve got no problem pulling for the D’backs. They’ve grown on me over this year as i went to about 10 of their home games. I’ll be at the home playoff games. Not real sure they can win a series vs. anyone but you never know.
neiljphx….I’m right there with ya. Go D’Backs!
And whoever voted for the Phils or Yanks needs to talke a long walk off a short plank
ew is a good word to sum that post up
No offense but what planet are you from? Most of my family rooted for the Brooklyn Dodger and they DETEST the Yankees. They got their hearts broken every year except 1955 and I don’t know a Dodger fan turned Met fan who roots for the Yankees. The former Dodger fans in my family loved the 2004 collapse to the Red Sox.
My father about had a heart attack when we had to play the Yankees in 2000. He was miserable that entire series. He said it was like having his bad childhood memories replayed.
Far back as I could remember I know I didn’t like the Yankees. Those late 70’s teams were something to hate while we had Seaver and Koosman…
I remember my first game in ‘75 Koosman vs Carlton…Mets lost 3-2. Duffy Dyer hit a 2 run homer in the bottom of the ninth to make it close…I brought my glove…..sitting in the RF nose bleeds I recall being fascinated by the fact that I was sitting above the RF foul pole.
No offense taken. My key point was that today it’s more vile than ever before. It was never like this.
I root for every NY team—except hockey. I hate hockey.
That’s fine but I don’t think you are typical. My father said people in Brooklyn detested the Yankees and having watched the HBO special on the Dodgers earlier this summer the dislike of the Yankees was pretty strong in the 1930s, 1940s, 1950s.
Yeah – every Dodger and Giants fan LOATHED the Yankees. Especially NL fans who were stuck living in the Bronx.
A Mets fan simply CANNOT root for the Skanks. How can you root for ANY American League team? – with that DH abomination, it isn’t real baseball!
I remember that game….
1980………
