    espn poll (main page):

80% support the retun of willie including every state individually.

    81% in new york

16,000 votes and growing (you can only vote once)

again. a silent majority supports willie. not let’s get some PITCHING this off-season.

    • NYsMaineMan says:

Like my friend just told me….the “silent majority” are people who don’t watch every single Mets’ game….they think Willie knows how to correctly double switch a player effectively.

This off-season is not about Willie, though, it’s about Omar fixing this mess and getting us a team with some fight, some attitude, some grit, and some desire. Not a bunch of heartless dude’s that don’t care whether they win or lose.

      • Roach says:

You and your friend know this how?

You can’t just throw a comment like that out there and expect people to take you seriously…

        • PereztoHeilmantoWagner says:

Um, it is a fact. How many people across the country follow the Mets like any of us do? Probably 0.05% if that!

So, the fact that people are voting on an issue like this is foolish. All they see is a record over 3 years and vote on that.

        • NYsMaineMan says:

He’s an American League guy….he never runs the wheel play on bunts, he’s not used to the NL strategies…. his first year he mucked up 2 double-switches his first month, and the pitcher ended up staying in the 9 hole….

I don’t care if you take me seriously, bud, lord knows I don’t care what you have to say.

        • DjDeF says:

So 81% IN NEW YORK who voted that they are FOR keeping Willie do not watch the Mets?

Stop speaking for everyone and speak for yourself.

I watched pretty much every game and am fine with Willie staying on as manager

        • zen says:

american league guy. that’s how you “feel”

the mets were #1 in stolen bases #1 in sac flies #2 sac bunts

          facts.

        • NYsMaineMan says:

And that’s your opinion, and I respect your opinion.

EVERYONE on this site that has spoken out against Willie has been black-listed, even by this site’s owner. We had a discussion one morning, and 4 or 5 comments that were not pro-Willie were deleted…What’s that!?!?!?! People can’t speak their mind? You can like Willie, EVERYONE can, but there have been A LOT of people on here anti-Willie, A LOT. So 81% of espn viewers voted in that poll Yes, keep him….

Most people that voted from NY are prob. Yankee fans that still sweat Willie from his Yankee days. A lot of Mets’ fans aren’t even following sports right now.

        • NYsMaineMan says:

How many hit-and-runs did the Mets try this year? Wheel plays on bunts? Sac Flies are sac flies, that’s not the manager, that’s the 3rd base coach….and I’d hope we’d have a lot of sac bunts, Glavine was the best bunting pitcher in the league, and Castillo bunted on his own every other at bat from his time here.

        • zen says:

it wasn’t my opinion. it was team stats that prove willie’s team was proficient in nl baseball

this blog doesn’t censor anti-willie comments. are you kidding me? have you read the junk that gets through about willie everyday.

        • zen says:

you don’t need to hit and run when you have more stolen bases than any team in 20 years.

very few team use the wheel play. they prefer to get the sure out instead of risking a big inning.

        • NYsMaineMan says:

OK, so I lied about comments getting deleted…ask NYCuban when you see him, he had some taken off too….he hates Willie as well.

      • zen says:

no. the loud minority is a bunch of angry fans who are never happy. they’re not happy with life so they project it on the team including the gm, manager, and players.

the majority of mets fans love their team and pay close attention to what’s going on. we also know the real problems with the team because we understand baseball.

this team needs: a top-of-the-rotation starter and two more solid relief pitchers.

        • NYsMaineMan says:

haha good one…so every fan that does not like Willie, you’ve talked to them personally? Ont he telephone? You know they’re unhappy with life, so they take it out on their baseball’s team’s manager? Uhm, WHAT!?!?!? Are you alright?

Everyone is allowed to have their opinions, people need to accept that. A lot of people like Willie, a lot do not. That’s the way it is. I don’t blame people for sticking up for Willie…..hey, he’s a solid dude. Just don’t like him as my manager, that’s all.

        • zen says:

i don’t have to talk to them. if you write on a blog that you “hate willie” that willie’s “a moron” or “dumb” that’s a mirror for who you are. it’s basic psychology. happy peole don’t use those type of phrases about others especially those who they don’t know.

i’m sure there are fans who have strong reason behind wanting another manager. few post here.

        • NYsMaineMan says:

wow, so 2 weeks ago when the Mets were losing every night to the Nationals did you read this blog? Haha, everyone wanted the guy’s head.

And I’ll have you know I am a very happy individual (outside this Mets’ collapse)…haha! I think Willie’s a solid dude, and I blame the players more so for the collapse than anyone else. Wasn’t Willie’s fault. I just think he’s a lousy in-game Manager…must mean I hate life, huh?

        • BackattheWall..ITS OUTTA HERE! says:

Hi, I have a great paying job. Love my girlfriend. Went to an ivy league school. I have great friends.
Soon Ill be going to Grad School.
Have a good apt, decent car.
Everything is going really well for me.
          I hate Willie.

        • NYsMaineMan says:

          HAHA!

No , man, sorry. You’re obviosuly lying….You hate Willie? You must be a liar, and you HAVE TO HATE LIFE, b/c, ya know, it’s common psych.

I am a dumber man for having graced that argument with a response.

        • zen says:

every scientific study or stat has a few random aberrations. the psychology literature is clear.

        • BackattheWall..ITS OUTTA HERE! says:

As for the poll by ESPN.com. Well then the majority of the people got their wish today. Congratulations.
Its not the first time the majority has gotten something wrong (Iraq).
Ill stand by and be in the minority.
Hopefully Omar fixes this team and it can overcome any manager.
No need for the name calling.

        • NYsMaineMan says:

I was being sarcastic, man, I am on your side….It’s zen that’s spewing this psycho-babbble stuff. The literature is clear, Geez, DR FRIGGIN PHIL is a Mets’ fan, just awesome.

        • BackattheWall..ITS OUTTA HERE! says:

Ok so every scientific study has a few random abberations (outliers), but the pyschology is clear.
So when 91% of all people hate pedophiles they should look in the mirror because they are hating themselves?

Im pretty sure its because they are touching 6 yr old kids.
          Could be me tho.

        • zen says:

no. 91% (hopefully higher) fear of pedophiles. not hate. they are good people who fear the safety of their children.

if you “hate” you’re not a good person in my view. you are dangerous to the social fabric of our society.

it’s even scarier if you “hate” a manager in sports. something so trivial. i mean if you “hate” bin laden. i can respect that, but an athlete. please.

        • BackattheWall..ITS OUTTA HERE! says:

          I hate Bin Laden too.
I hate that Willie manager is managing my baseball team.
Can you please direct me to a website where I can learn abt your dime store pyschology?

        • zen says:

google had academic archives filled with journal articles or go to your alma mater. free of charge. start reading.

you probably already hate me too. i know the type.

          no hard feeling :)

        • zen says:

          *google has

        • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

enough of this pussification bs about how “hate” is such a bad word. if i am allowed to love then why cant i be allowed to hate, i HATE willie randolph managing my team, i do not hate him as a person, i HATE the job he is doing, i HATE losing, i HATE collapses, i HATE the fact that the phillies are in the playoffs and that we are a laughing stock, i LOVE the mets, but i HATE the 2007 season.

much like backatthewall, i also have a nice life, good job, new car, nice apt, great friends, loving gf, hell even my raiders are 2-2, im a happy man. except when i talk about this team right now.

        • zen says:

i was referring specifically to hating willie or another person not to what you were speaking about hit….zeile.

          he said: “i hate willie”

free to say it. this is america. it just says a lot about him

    • BackattheWall..ITS OUTTA HERE! says:

I cannot believe Im doing this but if you have basic understanding of stats this is not a valid poll. Read the fine print on the damn site and it will tell u the same thing.
      From wikipedia
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opinion_poll

“Some polling organisations, such as YouGov and Zogby use Internet surveys, where a sample is drawn from a large panel of volunteers and the results are weighed to reflect the demographics of the population of interest. This is in contrast to popular web polls that draw on whomever wishes to participate rather than a scientific sample of the population, and are therefore not generally considered accurate.”

For a poll to be useful it must be come from a completely random sample. It cannot be opt in or else it will introduce bias.

I can’t wait for Opening Day in April!
Will the Mets be hanging a “2007: Biggest Regular Season Collapse Ever” banner to go along with the ridiculous “Wild Card Winner” and “Division Series Winner” banners?

This Omar interview is disturbing. He is full of it.
This is a franchise that settles for being mediocre and doesn’t do what it takes to get to the top of the mountain.

  3. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

calling this team young is so ridiculous:

young: wright, reyes, milledge, maine, perez

old: glavine, el duque, pedro, wagner, lo duca, delgado, alou, green

sorry omar, you wanna watch a young team watch the dbacks we’re far from young thats a bad cop out.

    • Roach says:

Maybe it was a sub-conscious statement to his plans for next year???

I dunno…i’m grasping at straws…that comment is confusing

  4. gentry says:

“you know what i’m sayin?”…NO OMAR, WE DON’T KNOW WHAT THE F*** YOU’RE SAYIN!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. christian warrior says:

All I have to say is that if Omar is keeping Willie after this horrible catastrophe, then he had better be pretty much giving this team an overhaul.

If we are going to keep a manager with no fire, then we had better get some position players with some.

Willie is damned lucky, as far as I am concerned. He should be gone. Better managers have been fired for collapses much smaller than this one, not to mention the fact that the majority of his players stopped playing for him some time ago.

Willie is real lucky the managerial market is thin…

  6. gipper913 says:

Man, I always like Omar – but that interview was disturbing.

  7. Krusty The Klown says:

“no we wouldnt have signed showenweiss if we knew he took roids,” “u signed mota” ” ur right we did sign mota b/c he apologized, you know he apologized and hes a good kid, we know him, hes a good kid, and he apologized”

  8. bigchart333 says:

listen, all this pro willie, anti willie stuff….it’s INCONSIQUENTIAL now…the team is behind willie, if we’re behind the team, we gotta be BEHIND THEM top to tail..u can dislike him all you want, but you gotta get out there and stand by them, cheer, and show SUPPORT…personally, i woulda liked to seen willie go..he IS inept and we need a fiery personality i think…the ZOO that is the yankees, they NEEDED the calm guy…we dont, we’re not a zoo…and delgado said it, they got bored…but anyway…enough’s enough….vent for a lil, then let it go…it’s willie time STILL, and if you’re a mets fan, you gotta stand by the team, thick and thin

  9. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

i hate to say it but if la russa ends up leaving the cardinals i think the mets will regret saying theyd keep willie

    • DjDeF says:

La Russa would have never come to NY. He is not a NY guy. He hates the media and wouldn’t be able to take it.

  10. NYsMaineMan says:

Krusty, how’s your problem doing? Any luck?

  11. Krusty The Klown says:

    wahhhhh problem?

  12. NYsMaineMan says:

we were discussing yesterday, about the accidents you were having.

  13. Krusty The Klown says:

ohhhhh righhht, well i got meself a new pair of undergarments and im clean as a whistle

  14. NYsMaineMan says:

Hey, happy for you man, that’s awesome.
