agreed completely. The "I hate baseball right now" comment makes me really sympathize with him. These guys (especially Alou, Wright, Lo Duca, etc.) really do care. Sure, they're being paid millions of dollars to play, but they love the game, and more than that, they love winning. And I think a few of them really care more about the team and the fans than they do about the money (although they care about the money too...but who can blame them?)

Gotta love Alou. Him and Wright were the ONLY reasons that the Mets even were playing a meaningful game on the last day of the season, because the few games they won, they won because of Wright and Alou tearing the cover off the ball.

Alou really wants to win, and he has the talent to back it up. No question, you bring him back as you try to ease Gomez in.

I have a feeling that Omar will keep Alou in his back pocket and see what happens with the pitching market. The reason I say that is if he deals Milledge and/or Gomez he may have to bring back Alou (even if he loses the Milledge/Gomez safety net, which I think is a must for Alou...)

Does anyone think of what might have been had Alou been healthy in June-July (or at least part of it?) Gotta think that would have been good for another 3-5 wins right there. Even with his injury history, he was out much longer than anyone expected.

Personally, I want him back. (If he doesn't come back, you may very well see Adam Dunn in RF for this year, and move him to 1B the next...)

If Omar brings Alou back in a full time role, keeps Delgado, Mota and Schoeneweis, keeps El Duque in the rotation full-time, then I doubt they will get into the playoffs, or if they do they will not advance far.

I predict Omar's job will on the line a year from now if he doesn't find a way to make the team significantly younger and healthier this winter.

If they found a lefty compliment for the same money, you could have one heck of a LF, all for about the same annual salary (or less) than the big free agents from last year, without the long term commitment.

Barry Bonds.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

How about Shawn Green? Fits the same description.
