…i need a break from the keyboard…i have written over 550,000 words in the last two months, or basically the equivilant of War and Peace, seriously, and so my writing is starting to not make a whole lot of sense, which tends to happen from time to time…over the next few weeks, while teams are unable to make trades, sign free agents or make any major announcements, i will step back, stop writing and let my brain get it’s act together, while also cleaning up my office and working on some new bells, whistles and ideas for MetsBlog.com…in the process, i intend to have conversations with every single baseball person, reporter and fan i know, in an effort to formulate a better sense of what went wrong with this team, and what needs to occur to get it back on track…
…in the meantime, my associate bloggers will carry the torch lightly in my absence, although i will certainly make the occasional post from time to time, particularly in the morning…however, i do not expect us to be making 15 to 20 posts a day like we had been doing over the last few months, mostly because news will be sparse…but, we will be writing every day, letting you know our individual thoughts while linking to other information around the web so to keep the conversation warm until November, when the Hot Stove Season will officially begin…at which point we will turn the heat up under talking trades, rumors and free agents on a full-time, non-stop basis…and i suspect it will get pretty crazy around here, as it has every off-season for the past four years, chock full of buzz, arguments, ideas, news and solutions…and i can’t wait…it’s always a ton of fun…
…so, keep checking in with MetsBlog.com, but patient with our slower pace while we recouperate from a very long roller-coaster of a regular season, and get ready for what i suspect will be an equally long roller-coaster of an off-season…

OK, you deserve it Matt.
LETS GO ROX!
Matt,
Are you going to add a donations link? Or maybe exclusive content, a la ESPN Insider? Food for thought.
Enjoy the break.
Or, even better, perhaps you should think about forming an LLC or a C-corp around Metsblog, which would allow you to sell equity.
If he sells equity he loses some element of control over his enterprise. LLC’s members often retain equal voting rights unless otherwise stated in their agreement if I am not mistaken. A sole proprietorship will do just fine since I do not see any liability issues. Matt is too positive to start slandering someone :)
P.S. Great work to the MetsBlog crew!
You can set up an LLC such that a Board of Managers, or even a single Managing Director makes the majority of the operational decisions. The enetirety of the membership would only have to sign off on sale of some, or all of the company.
It’s pretty flexible, but only worth doing if he was considering taking on investment, and only if it were from around 5 or so investors.
Fair enough.
Matt,
If you do incorporate I would suggest an S-corp if you plan to sell any advertising space or anything of that nature. Tax implications are much better for you under that structure.
Basically in a C-corp the company’s profits are taxed, and the salary you pay yourself would be taxed as well.
Under an S-corp, all the profits belong to the shareholders and would only be taxed once on your personal income tax returns.
not to mention your tax rate would be lower under an S corp usually since it flows through Matt’s personal income. C-Corps are taxed at a 40% rate usually, no?
Good point on the S-corp/C-corp differences.
Matt, get some rest, it’s been a wild month…we all should take a break for a while I suppose.
Thanks for all your hard work!!
Quick question for anybody that wants to answer/comment.
Does anybody else feel like the Mets did more giving than the Phillies did taking of the NL East Title??? Let’s face it, 89 wins doesn’t win this division if the Mets don’t completely meltdown.
no. the phils took the division. they beat the mets 7 straight down the stretch. that’s a tko.
1-0 rockies!
great blog, matt.
I don’t believe that for one second. Even after the second sweep they still had a 4 game lead with 14 games to go.
The Mets gift wrapped this Division and handed it tot he Phillies, plain and simple.
of course, the mets collapsed.
you still have to give the phils credit for going 13-4 down the stretch and for staying close all year.
3-0 rockies!
if they hadnt swept both series id say we did it but i mean thats 7 games that they took directly from us. if we win 1 of those 7 games we are in the playoffs. just root for the rocks and the tribe, and hope that omar gets in gear this winter bc we need a big time offseason. i hope he doesnt get tunnel vision with santana and end up missing other things en route to failing to even acquire him.
Lol Mike and the MadDog said Met fans would embrace the Phils. I thought they were out of their minds. From the posts so far, looks like I was right.
Go Rockies!!!
The Mets did give it away in a sense, but it wasn’t a total giveaway. 2 straight series sweeps were involved too. Any team that is behind and needs nothing else but a sweep and comes through not once but twice, deserves the division, plain and simple.
I feel this was more a giveaway than a takeaway. Yes, the Phils swept us twice, and they deserve kudos for hanging in there. But this was not some classic team that just refused to lose. They went 6-7 after they swept us the first time, hardly a sign of a great team. Even in the final 2 weeks, they were 9-4. That’s good, but hardly the stuff of legend.
So it may sound like sour grapes, but the Mets did more to lose the division than the Phillies did to win.
Matt, thanks for the great site. Even after all we have been through in 2007, LETS GO METS!!!
Great Work Matt… as well as DJ, Mike, Regis, Evan, Anthony, and Joe. Relax guys…this Hot Stove season is going to be crazy around here!!
Yes, ditto. Sometimes we forget to give credit to the great supporting cast too. Thank you all.
Sleep man, you’ve earned it.
We could not have made it without you,Matt….

Thank you Matt,
You do deserve. it…
One more thing, Glavine @ 4 pm on Wfan..I cannot wait till I hear his response and Willie at 5 pm.
matt you definitely earned this rest, i wish you didnt have to take it so early but thats another story.
Bud Dickman says to take it easy!
I am writing this here because I could not post this last night on Andrew Jones article.
Are the Phillies the new Braves? Shouldn’t we hate the Phillies now the way we used to hate the Braves. The Braves are old news to me. I could care less that Jones left and that the Braves are falling apart. Let’s go Rockies.
M&MD to Glavine:
Will you decline the player option with the Mets.
Glavine: It’s safe to say, but I am not closing the door.
He is not getting 13 mill on the open market so, the door is shut Tommy. Buh Bye!
UGH 3-1
a HUGE, heartfelt thanks to Matt and his supporting cast (DJ, Mike, Regis, Evan, Anthony, and Joe). This site, and your collective effort(s), are just simply wonderful. I’ve been reading daily…hell, often hourly…for the past few years, and never before have I felt so connected to this team, its players, philosophies, triumphs, and…yes…woes. The emotional rollercoaster that IS being a Mets fan is best when shared. Kudos to all of the Metsblog gang, writers, poster, readers, and fans – for making the entire experience more entertaining.
Enjoy the well-deserved respite….
I don’t know why I’m torturing myself, but after swearing off baseball for the rest of the season, I just decided to screw it and put on the Phils-Rockies game, and of course the first batter hits a homerun (which apparently was the second of a back-to-back,), the second batter hits one to the track, and the 3rd batter hits a single. God I hate the Phillies. Btw, Jeff Francis looks like he is 13.
Matt, you deserve the rest…while the Mets were collapsing, you were rising to the occasion and doing your best work. If only the players played as well as you blogged, I’d be watching them get dominate by a 13 year old kid right now.
God, 2 out, 2 out. THROW STRIKES. I hate the Phillies too gomets haha, Jeff does look like he’s 13.
Wasn’t he pitching in the Little League World Series?
Matt, thanks for the great site and all your hard work. I don’t get much work done during the day since I am constantly reading everything here.
Matt i’d defiantly create a forum for us to talk amongst ourselves. Just a thought, maybe even sending Text message updates to some metblog readers if they want thatd be slammin yaknowwhatimsayin?
When do we get to start talking about all the players the mets are going to get in the off-season?
Agreed, message board of sorts. Matt, thanks for everything!
as addicted as some us of are to this site (i for one) i think we should all step back and take a break from the mets and their heart-breaking ways… but! not before we break the news-WALT JOCKETTY OUT AS GM OF ST LOUIS! maybe a replacement for omar!? let the debate begin….
Great work Mets Blog Crew! Looking forward to Hot Stove in November.
TIME TO MOVE ON!!!!!
I know most of you are still depressed as well as I am. So, my bar is throwing a Jets v. Giants meetup on Sunday for the game. This is the 1st time we are trying this. We are attempting to setup a home away from the Meadowlands to watch the games. The bar is called Butterfield 8.
It is located on 38th St between 5th and Madison Ave.
The special for the game is $25 all you can drink Bud and Bud light draft and all you can eat wings for the duration of the game.
A post has already been set up on http://www.thejetsblog.com. The website for the bar is http://www.butterfield8nyc.com – check it out, it’s a really nice place. Also I will be bartending this for the game.
I hope you all can come out.
I realized something this year. I am too emotionally attached to this team. My mood on any given day during the summer is very often dictated by the state of the Mets, and more specifically, whether they won the night before or not. About half-way through our 2 week slide in September I just started to detach myself emotionally from it all. Otherwise I would have been borderline-clinically depressed. It’s not worth it anymore for me, man. Of course I will always be a Met fan for life, but going forward, I am going to take a step back and detach myself a little. I don’t necessarily have to watch every single game. I don’t even necessarily have to check the boxscore before going to sleep. I think we’ve established that this team will never be a juggernaut, and in fact will be maddeningly inconsistent most years, and it’s not worth becoming a miserable troll in front of your friends because of a game. Just had to get that out.
man, tony clark is the clean-up hitter for the diamondbacks, the best team in the NL, now that’s just sad.
Thanks Matt for giving a long, suffering Mets fan a site that would provide all different views, comments and ideas. Get your rest and come back when the Hot Stove starts. Never will root for Phillies, our new arch enemy alongside the Bravos.
