At his blog for Newsday, David Lennon has a bit of fun, while ‘floating a few hypotheticals,’ wondering how certain people from
the Yankees could help the Mets next season, including Joe Torre.
By the way, according to a MetsBlog.com poll of more than 3,100 of the team’s fans, 66 percent of those polled wanted to see Willie Randolph return to manage the Mets in 2008, while only 33 percent prefered that he be fired.
Similarly, according to a recent poll from MetsBlog.com of more than 2,400 Mets fans, 64 percent of those polled would keep Torre on to manage the Yankees in 2008, while only 36 percent believe he should be let go.

one-year option on C Pudge Rodriguez’s contract, keeping him in Detroit for at least one more season.
For a complete list of catchers who are eligible for free agency during this coming off-season go to Cot’s Baseball Contracts, a list that includes, among others: Ramon Castro and Paul Lo Duca, as well as Brad Ausmus, Michael Barrett, Jason Kendall, Chad Moeller, Mike Piazza, Yorvit Torrealba and most likely Jorge Posada.
Tagged Paul Lo Duca |According to Jon Heyman at SI.com, citing
‘a person familiar with their thinking,’ the Mets are planning to exercise the $7.5 million option on Moises Alou‘s contract.
Alou played in just 87 games for the Mets this season, during which he hit .341 with 13 HR and 49 RBI.
The Mets were 47–40 in games that Alou played. They were 41–34 in games he did not.
Heyman also sets odds on the possible replacement candidates for Joe Torre, which includes Bobby Valentine at 15 to 1.

Tagged Tom Glavine |“This isn’t a popular choice given how he finished the season, but in 16 of his 34 starts Glavine gave up two or fewer runs and was the only starter in the rotation with 200 innings. That’s not easily replaceable production, but they need this guy because of the durability questions surrounding Pedro Martinez and Orlando Hernandez, and the uncertainty of youngsters Mike Pelfrey and Phil Humber.”

…it’s the best, jerry…the best…
In the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, citing ‘someone close to the situation,’ Braves beat writer David O’Brien writes that the Mets may have interest in free-agent OF Andruw Jones, as do the Dodgers, Rangers, Giants and White Sox.
…i guess the thinking would be to move Carlos Beltran to a corner position, which is actually something i am very much in favor of…admittedly, though, i have not done a whole lot of work on these subjects over the last few days…that being the case, my sense so far has been that if the Mets are to acquire any players during this off-season they’re either going to be pitchers or players who play hard…and, having watched him over the last few years, jones does not have either of those traits…plus, does the Mets lineup really need 120 more strike outs in the middle of it, and so that would mean adding a top defensive center fielder, and last i checked, that was not the team’s biggest problem either…i do not doubt that this is being discussed, i just don’t understand why it would ever actually happen…seriously, what problem does this solve, and what need would it fill…
O’Brien also explains why he believes Tom Glavine will eventually return to the Braves, but noting that it will not be a smooth negotiation.
…by the way, if you’re still waiting, i am getting e-mails from fans letting me know that their credit card has finally been credited the money initially spent on never-needed playoff tickets, which were purchased back in September…

…the Willie Randolph facial expressions are pretty funny, but i don’t get what is going here…is it that they’re speechless…like the rest of us, frankly…

‘who have endured relentless abuse from Yankees fans over the years.’
…personally, i gave up caring about the Yankees years ago…as i have said, until they begin playing in the National League, i don’t care what happens to them on the field…off the field, however, since their every move seems to impact the markets in baseball, i do care… and so i am eager to watch their current soap opera play itself out…plus, i do think it will push the Mets out of the discussion in New York over the next few weeks, and i think we can all appreciate that…
