The Mets are among nine of the 50 Greatest Moments in League Championship Series history, according to ESPN.com.
Among others, the list includes Robin Ventura‘s grand slam single during the 15th inning of 1999’s NLCS. Unfortunately, also listed is Game 6 from that same series, when Kenny Rogers walked in the series-winning run.
At the blog for Baseball America, Matt Eddy has posted this week’s minor league transactions.
According to Eddy, the Mets have assigned RHP Eddie Kunz, RHP Carlos Muniz, LHP Adam Bostick, LHP Eddie Camacho, C Mike Nickeas, 1B Mike Carp and OF Caleb Stewart to the Scottsdale Scorpions of the Arizona Fall League.
Eddy also notes the Mets have assigned RHP Jose de la Torre, 1B Nick Evans, 2B Emmanuel Garcia, 2B Hector Pellot and 3B Dan Murphy to the Waikiki Beach Boys of the Hawaii Winter Baseball League.
And the Mets have granted free agency to RHP Jon Adkins, RHP Lino Urdaneta and OF Ricky Ledee, according to Eddy.
Tagged Mike Nichols, Minors |According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, citing ‘people in the know,’ rumors regarding a Jose Reyes-for-Johan Santana deal are “pure fantasy.”
…as it should be…
…no way, no how should jose reyes ever be traded this off-season…and i am in total agreement with dave from Mets Lifers about not selling out on reyes….
Heyman also notes on the possibility of Tom Glavine returning to the Mets next season and the current value of Marlins LHP Dontrelle Willis.

Tagged MetsBlog |Scott Boras, the agent for Yankees 3B Alex Rodriguez, recently
suggested that becoming a free agent again would be a smart option for his client, according to Jack Curry in the New York Times.
According to multiple reports, Rodriguez, 32, can opt out of his current contract and become a free agent. He has three years and a potential $91 million left on his current contract, of which $21 million will be paid by his former team, the Texas Rangers.
…the early buzz from baseball, which has been bubbling for months, suggests that, if a-rod hits the open market, boras will seek a 10–year, $300 million…
Yankees GM Brian Cashman has repeatedly told reporters that, if Rodriguez becomes a free agent, he would pass on trying to re-sign him.
According to Curry, the Angels, Cubs, Red Sox, White Sox, Dodgers and Mets are teams that could pursue Rodriguez on the open market.
Meanwhile, at American Legends, J. Mark English recalls a conversation from WFAN’s morning show, which proposed that the Mets sign Rodriguez to play shortstop, while then trading Jose Reyes for Johan Santana.
…i’ll give you a minute to catch your breath, and stop laughing…
…man, could you imagine the Mets employing the highest paid position player and the highest paid pitcher at the same time…now that’s high comedy, folks…i mean, what in this team’s history gives you any indication that that is at all possible…think about it…
…frankly, i don’t yet have much interest in rodriguez…don’t get me wrong, he’s an amazing hitter, and among the best players i will ever watch, but he’s such a divisive figure, who clearly has a whole lot of baggage, that my gut reaction is that he’s just not worth it from a ‘team’ point of view…business side, yes, i get it…but, there is something about putting him in a clubhouse, and how he impacts the rest of the team, that worries me…
In his recent report for FOXSports.com, Ken Rosenthal writes that the White Sox, Tigers and Mets are among the teams that could be interested in free-agent 2B David Eckstein.
According to Rosenthal, ‘Eckstein would figure
to be open-minded if the Mets or another club wanted him to move to second base.’
In 117 games for St. Louis this past season, Eckstein hit .309, with a .356 OBP, while putting the ball in play roughly 85 percent of his plate appearances.
…i have always been intrigued by eckstein, who a) began his career as a second baseman, b) is a winner, and c) would fit the exact type of hard-nosed, hard-working, disciplined, fundamental player this team seems to be in need of…
Rosenthal also writes about the value of Steve Trachsel; why the Twins should trade Joe Nathan; and how the Angels could have interest in Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez and Miguel Tejada.
