Read: Shea Vendor Shows Dedication

by Regis Courtemanche on October 14th, 2007 at 12:03 pm

In an article for the Kansas City Star, Donald Bradley pens an unbelievable story of a Shea Stadium vendor, Bobby Lee, who travels from Missouri to serve cotton candy at 60 games a year.

Bradley writes:

“He started when he was 16 and lived two subway stops from Shea. Now he’s 48 and lives halfway across the country.”

“Lee and his wife moved to the Kansas City area four years ago after he retired from the New York Fire Department as a 20-year veteran. The Sept. 11 attacks, which killed 343 firefighters at the World Trade Center, factored in. Bobby, an arson investigator, arrived in lower Manhattan just as the towers came down.”

…the definition of dedication…i felt i had to relay this story because at times like these, i can tend to get too involved in what needs to change about baseball or the Mets, but stories like these are humbling and keep things in perspective…

…don’t forget to tip your vendors…wow…

Note: Marlins Like Lo Duca, Again

by Matthew Cerrone on October 14th, 2007 at 10:25 am

In the Miami Herald, Barry Jackson gives a quick sense of the Marlins off-season plans, which could include a) trading one of Dontrelle Willie or Miguel Cabrera, b) bringing back C Paul Lo Duca, and c) possibly signing free-agent RHP Kris Benson.

By the way, the report also points out that the Marlins must pay $4 million of Carlos Delgado‘s $16 million salary in 2008.

Delgado has a $16 million option for 2009, or a $4 million buy-out clause.

Note: Expect Coaches to Return

by Matthew Cerrone on October 14th, 2007 at 10:21 am

In the Journal News, John Delcos quotes Omar Minaya as saying that most of the team’s coaching staff will return next season.

…as omar pointed out, willie had a hand in picking out most of these guys, but i suspect this will be more closely examined during the team’s organizational meetings, which will likely occur after the world series…frankly, i sense there is more discontent with the staff above and below the coaching staff, than there is within it

Delcos also writes about the second-base situation.

…by the way, delcos is back blogging at his site for t he Journal News, which under-went a bit of technical work over the last few days…nevertheless, he’s back in action and continuing to do great work, so check it out
