Note: Buy a Citi Field Brick
By Matthew Cerrone - Oct 15, 2007 8:44 am

At Mets.com, the Mets are allowing fans to purchase individually engraved bricks that will surround the Jackie Robinson Rotunda at the main entrance of Citi Field.

If you order by today, October 15, at noon, you will receive a replica brick by the holidays for an extra-special gift. Otherwise, you will get a special gift certificate to let your holiday gift recipient know the replica brick is on the way.

Just tried to buy a brick and they seem to have web problems…..ordered submitted and hanging

  2. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

if everyone buys a brick does that mean we get to sign arod or do the wilpons just pocket that cash?

    • dannyb says:

      We could definitely use him.

Also, hate to break the news, but there are more $-making gimmicks yet to come. Think about the opportunities! Personal parking spaces, ditto urinals (the perfect height), and seats that mold to the shape of your ass.

      • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

without a doubt, i just hope some of this money goes to good use other than the wilpons trust fund.

      • Kevin Elster says:

It seems with every gimmick there are tons of people that lineup for the chance to be taken. What surprises me is why there is no donation to a chaity with all or at least part of the proceeds.

        • cb32 says:

Why is it being taken to show your support of a team you love and have it there as long as Citi Field stands? I wouldn’t consider that being taken.

I retract my comment if somehow your brick ends up 2 blocks down the street in front of a bar or something.

        • Kevin Elster says:

I guess it all depends on your stance of the state of professional sports. The “fans” continually take a beating by these teams financially. I guess as long as “we” are willing to pay “we” are to blame. Las Vegas was built on people gambling away their money, MLB is no different – the house always wins.

        • cb32 says:

I see your point although I don’t think it is any different than buying a jersey, hat, ticket to the game, MLB package for your TV, etc.

In fact, this one is at least long lasting unlike the others I mentioned.

  3. mhochman says:

Thank you for your order of a 4″ x 8″ Fanwalk Brick and a complimentary replica.

I can’t believe i just bought a $200 brick., but hey, how often do you get to put your name on something that’ll be around for years…

  4. loopenark says:

wonder if you can buy a brick that says something like “Mota sucks” or “get us some pitching”. kind of expensive but might be worth it,

  5. LGMin2k2 says:

    how about…

“I used my 2007 playoff refund to buy this brick”

    Global New York Mets

    • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

hahaha that would hands down be the funniest brick ever, if i had 200 bucks i could burn id do that but theres no way theyd let you.

    • mhochman says:

      Now that is Classic!

Hey, it just means I have to work 1 extra day this week to pay for it, but really, it cost about the same as the Mets Jacket i bought a couple years ago. and it’ll last a heck of a lot longer.

      • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

you are right it definitely is worth it considering authentic jerseys are 250, and what if the guy gets traded or something then your screwed this will last forever, call me a sucker but i think its pretty cool

  6. rogasm says:

In STL they did this for the new Busch. I submitted a brick that said “Lets Go Mets!” on it with my initials. After about two weeks, I got an email from someone in the organization saying that it was deemed inappropriate.

  7. wallybackman says:

It would be nice to see what the money is being used for… You can buy a brick for less than 2 bucks at Home Depot… Engraving and polishing costs a few dollars more, I wonder what the rest of the $200 is for…

    • truebluesince62 says:

The remaining $190 goes to the Fred/Jeff Wilpon “Burn the mortgage” fund. Citigroup promised $400M across 20 years ($20M per) for naming rights….the total cost of the place is about $800M so they’ll use anything to reduce the debt……you’ll also see that Aramark signed a 30 year contract for concessions, etc.

In 2008, they’ll sell every last piece of Shea and in 2009, they’ll have concerts, other sporting events etc at Citifield …..anything to pay off the bills early.

  8. metslikewhoa says:

    seriously, still too soon.

  9. stuckon1111 says:

I wouldn’t want to spend this money on a brick that people will walk on. here’s $200 now step all over my creation. Sorry…no. I would have spent the money on a game in the last week of the season…spent it wisely on a division clinching game. Guess you can’t have everything.

Plus…what happens when it snows? Shovels and mini-plows pushing snow piles over my brick and scratching it all up? what about vandalism?

Sorry Fred and Jeff, I got 3 jobs to pay for other things than to fill your wallet

  10. mrose says:

the site is contradicting itself…it says in the little box on the top right that if you order by october 15th you get it by the holidays’
then the main text says by noon on oct 15th..i’m not sure what to believe..i wanna get the right thing written as it will be for me dad..

  11. Krusty The Klown says:

How bout “Fire Willie” or “eat ur poop and throw it up and lick it”

  12. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

how about “my team has the 3rd highest payroll and all i got for xmas is this stupid brick”

  13. General Millz says:

“Wish I could afford tickets here.”

  14. icedrake523 says:

This is so tacky. I won’t want to see all the brick on Citi Field inscribed with stupid messages. I guess when your owner is a Jew, they’ll do anything to get more money.

  15. since62 says:

I believe that fans that spend all this extra money on jerseys , bricks etc. are crazy.

You are taking money from your family , or your own future and all you are doing is subsidizing billionaires and millionaires.

It’s one thing to enjoy baseball and to identify with a team , but if you think your love is being requited then you are delusional.

    my opinion

    • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

im going to respectfully disagree. i really dont think people are dipping into their kids college funds to buy a 200 dollar brick. Im sure those making these “crazy” purchases are the ones who can afford it, probably why it took me until i was 22 and had a full time job before i bought my first authentic jersey.

  16. RichardK says:

How about “Your Season Has Ended.”

  17. RichardK says:

Ugh you Citi Field Haters are NUTS! Absolutely NUTS!

You would rather this team play in a DUMP? Thats what Shea Stadium is.. a DUMP! Mets fans have been Embarrassed by that pos for the last time! Only one more year… I cant wait!

This new stadium is going to be amazing for the Fans!

Who cares how expensive the ticket prices will be for the first two seasons! It’s gonna be there for 40+ years! Something tells me fans wont have a hard time seeing a game there!

Get over Shea Stadium already! This team and these fans deserve a new park, it’s about time.

Heres to the newest park in the NL! And the Best Stadium in New York! *cheers*
