Did I miss something? Last I checked Blanton ate innings like Miguel Cabrera eats hot dogs. Not to mention done it with an ERA+ of between 92 and 126 in all three of his full MLB seasons. Of course anyone would prefer Johan Santana, but only one team can get him. If its not Santana or Haren, Blanton could be exactly what this rotation needs.

I think the best move for Omar might be to start by asking high. Go to both Billy Beane and Terry Ryan and offer them the same package for either Dan Haren or Johan Santana and hope somebody balks first. It could reveal whether either GM truly covets any of the Mets top prospects. If it becomes clear that such a trade isn't going to work, maybe reduce the package and pull a similar a approach with Beane and Kenny Williams trying to acquire Blanton or Garland. This way, at least Beane has a standard set in his mind for what might have been available for the biggest mind, allowing Omar to play off that and maybe acquire Blanton cheaper than he'd have been able to otherwise.

That just proves the notion of landing Santana for less than Reyes PLUS Gomez/Milledge is silly, pie in the sky fantasy.

"Garland for Milledge or Gomez straight up would be acceptable"

If oyur name is "confusion" and you want to subvert all order in the universe, and you particularly hate the mets, it would be acceptable.

Buy A-Rod to get us into the playoffs, then bench him for Green, as Wright moves back to third.

Stitch Milledge will open eyes next year.

Pelfrey and Humber will in a year or two, then everyone will be glad Omar was patient.

(I hope.)
