News: Free-Agent 2B Marcus Giles
By Matthew Cerrone - Oct 27, 2007 10:48 am

According to the Associated Press, the Padres have put 2B Marcus Giles on waivers Friday.

…in other words, he will be a free agent in the next week or so

…from what i recall, the Mets made zero effort in acquiring giles last off-season, after he was non-tendered by the Braves

The 29–year-old Giles is batting .249 in his last 1,000 at-bats, while hitting just 15 HR with 100 RBI.  His batting average and on base percentage have declined every season since 2003.

if giles is left out in the cold, and needs a team to try out with, i’d welcome him to Port St. Lucie…otherwise, i do not see him as any sort of solution on offense…also, he’s never been a great defensive player, which is what the team value’s most at second base…

Someone will offer him more than a spring invite. It shouldn’t be the Mets.

He was pretty productive while he was on the juice…if he gets back on it, I’m sure Omar will pick him up.

  3. a team would never value defense at second base over offense. maybe defense with offense, but never defense over offense.

    marcus giles is horrible

  4. [...] for returning. David Eckstein and Padre Geoff Blum are mentioned as well. Matthew Cerrone at Mets Blog recently mentioned the Mets might want to consider inviting free agent Marcus Giles to camp if he [...]

No worries here, he’s not Omar’s kind of guy….

Of course he wouldn’t be Omar’s kind of guy if he was a .330 lifetime hitter.

But Luis Castillo, he’s Omar’s kind of guy.

That’s why this team is doomed.

AMEN ! Let’s face it, if his name was Manuel Gomez
Omar would at least flirt with the idea of signing him.

Same story w/ Iguchi who didn’t interest our GM at all
AND in fact stated ” I like Castillo as a player and fit better”.

All Iguchi did was keep the illies afloat for a month while
    Utley was out.
Meanwhile, players like Alou and Duque were M.I.A. during
some of the most important parts of our season.

I’ve got a bad feeling we’ll be looking at about 20 MIL spent
toward ’08s payroll on The Rabbi in Left at 41 w/ a history
of leg injuries, a fading Castillo w/ bad knees and hips,
And a Catching platoon of always hurt Castro and favorite
brother Javy Valentin behind the plate.

iguchi is almost identical to castillo. why are you all obsessed with him?

oh, and i’m pretty sure alou was around during the last month, you know, the critical part of the season. and he sort of was the best hitter on the team. and duque was our best pitcher this year.
