Nice to see an organization at work, getting ready to address 2008.
Putting the plan in motion.
Where is Omar? Resting in his native land waiting for the phone to ring?
Maybe he's putting together a package to bring Barry Bonds to Shea...old and crippled; right up his alley.

To Quote directly from Rotoworld
“That was remarkably quick. That Renteria is being dealt is no surprise, and it figured that the Tigers would be high on the list of suitors. However, we don't see wht the Braves felt they had to make the move today when better offers could have come later. This simply isn't a great return for a player who was one of the best in the NL last season. Renteria hit .332/.390/.470 in 2007, and he's under control for a very reasonable $20 million over two years (the second year is at Detroit's option).
The Braves deemed Renteria expendable because they wanted to free up some money to address the pitching staff and turn shortstop over to Yunel Escobar. Still, they're downgrading defensively and offensively here and not guaranteeing themselves an immediate upgrade to the staff. Jurrjens, 21, had a 3.20 ERA in 19 starts in Double-A and a 4.70 ERA in seven starts in the majors last season. He has No. 3-starter upside.
Hernandez is a quality center field prospect, but the Tigers hardly needed another one of them with Curtis Granderson in the majors and Cameron Maybin on the way. Hernandez hit .293/.344/.371 and 54 steals as a 19-year-old for low Single-A West Michigan last season. He has more long-term upside than fellow center-field prospect Jordan Schafer in Atlanta, though he is further away. “

Yeah, the Braves do have a lot of young talent. Still not that much pitching though!

They could be very good, or really up and down next year. hard to tell with that many young guys playing at one time. If 2-3 all get it together (ala Matt Holiday) at the same time, they will be scary!

I also like that they moved quick. Sometimes a GM screws around so long (afraid to not get the "best deal:) that the other teams do something else, and you get shut out.

THe Braves seem to set a value, and as soon as a team offers that value or more, they take it and move on.

Still, I don't see this deal making them the favorites in 2008, but certainly good for the future.

Oh, and they are doing something I want the Mets to do. You have extra talent at 1 position, then turn it into talent at another position where you need help.

For the Mets, that means taking one of ht eyoung OFs and converting him into someone that fills a current need (C, 2B, P), instead of holding onto all of them, hoping they all turn out to be stars.

Milledge can help this year so keep him. If Gomez gets you back something of value that helps win in 2008, do it. Same with Martinez.

Just hang onto th epitching prosepects, since they are way harder to replace!

THE SKY IS FALLING!

NOT PROSPECTS! After all, it's not like we don't have a ton of underachieving prospects. Who knows what they turn out to do, they could both flop.

the funny thing is if we somehow acquired these two guys we'd be saying "this isnt going to make us better for next year" but the braves get them and suddenly we're in for another 14 years of chasing the wild card
