In the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Braves beat-writer David O’Brien categorizes Atlanta as the ‘front-runner’ to sign free-agent LHP Tom Glavine, who became a free agent after declining an option with the Mets in early October.
…i still think there is a chance he ends up with the
Mets, but if so, it will be because this year’s situation evolved like last year’s, in which the Braves back out…
This past weekend in Newsday, Ken Davidoff explained why Glavine is most likely to either sign with the Braves or Nationals, or just retire. Also, early this off-season, ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick listed the Nationals as a possible landing spot for Glavine, as well.
Lastly, O’Brien writes that the Braves might have interest in free-agent OF Mike Cameron, who grew up in Georgia.
Yesterday, the Braves traded SS Edgar Renteria – and his $9 million contract – to the Tigers for two prospects, OF Gorkys Hernandez and RHP Jair Jurrjens, who the team’s assistant GM compared to Braves LHP Jo-Jo Reyes.

Let them have him. It will eat up a good chunk of budget, keep them from getting soemone better, and prevent Omar from bringing him back.
Plus, I want to see DW launch some moon shots off the old man.
let glavine go to his real love. good riddance.
I don’t want Glavine back, even if they do miss his solid 200+ IP. I’d rather watch Humber get a shot as well as Pelfrey. Or sign or trade for someone younger. Enough of the AARP players. They’re too risky down the stretch.
F Glavine
Damn right!!!
GET THE HELL OUT YOU PHONY!!!!
I was always a glavine supporter, and he definitely pitched a few games this year that he should of won, but was let down by the bullpen. But his performance down the stretch, especially that last game makes me say .. go back to Atlanta, I’ll come down to heckle you, and I too would love to watch Wright tee off on him.
O’Brien been saying ATL is the front-runner since July. I do tend to agree at this point, but O’Brien is more like us (the commenters) than a real reporter. If TG does go there, that’s fine, this division knows him a bit too well at this point. My lone concern is that when the Mets play the Braves and TG is on the mound (for either team) Braves always seem to win.
By the way, I refuse to believe that Jair Jurrjens is a baseball player. Didn’t he play for the Quebec Nordiques back in ‘82?
I cannot believe this is even being discussed?!!! You cannot bring Glavine back under any circumstances…I mean as it is, it’s absolutely ridiculous/unconscionable that nobody has been held accountable for this disgraceful collapse- It is unfathomable to me and completely unacceptable that nobody was fired for this….I mean you absolutely have to be kidding. Obviously the manager should be gone, but he is (ridiculously) going to be kept and looks like clowns like Mota and Rickey Henderson are going to be back too because the cheapo Wilpons will not eat the money. And now there are thoughts about bringing Glavine back? I guess in 2008 The Mets want to have as many reminders of the 2007 collapse on the team as possible…Everybody will be kept and the roster will be exactly the same- including Glavine who in a lot of ways is the symbol of the collapse. They are going to bring back the same players, same manager/coaches, etc., and they are going to try for an even more historic collapse in 2008. They really think they can blow a 12 game lead with 18 to play in 2008. This team is f*ing dead to me until somebody is held accountable for 2007!!
Braves favored to land Glavine.
Dog bites man.
