so if you’ll pay 7 1/2 mil for a 41 Year Old who gives you half a season with 300 at bats, 13 HR, 50 RBI and 10 weeks on the DL?

Not an injury risk? he missed 1/2 of 2007, 64 games in 2006 and 39 games in 2005

the guy is historically known for not reaching his potential because he is always injured/.

Why not dump him and upgrade to a 31 YO who plays every day and gives you 600 AB, 54 HR and 150 RBI and is never hurt?

Nice Guy.. but they usually finish last..

The only thing that I don’t get about what Matt posts here is that Alou’s history doesn’t indicate that he’s a lock to miss a ton of games. Yeah, he missed a ton this year. But that doesn’t mean that all of a sudden he is a constant injury risk.

He needs to play everyday at this point. Trade him or send him to AAA until he gets it together.

For $7.5M you won’t get the production he is clearly still capable of. Even if he only plays 120 games, he’s a great competitor who is always prepared and is a good guy to have around for the younger players. Plus he pees on his hands, so that’s always good for a few jokes, sorta like the “dump truck” jokes for Najeh Davenport.

i dont get how everyone still thinks endy si amazing, okay he made the catch and he batted around 300, but this year he was nothing more than a good defensive OF who got hurt alot

Gomez is too light of a hitter. You can’t have his bat replace Alou’s…..He has talent but we most likely need to use him for a trade for pitching…Endy should be able to back-up Alou well….

Gomez is raw, but he is talented…

Between him and endy (with marlon getting a start here or there) if alou goes down… should be ok

I agree. They must retain Alou. We are stuck with Delgado and Beltran who go into major, prolonged slumps, (Delgado more so than Beltran). After last year, we absolutely cannot count on Delgado…..His “bored” comment has to be one of the worst comments I ever heard a major league ballplayer with a huge contract make. It was appalling and he really needs to be traded but I don’t think any team will pick him up with his huge contrat for 2008. We need another big bat and A Rod would obviously give us that. We must keep Alou and sign another bat or we will risk the same slumping offense that we saw too much of last year…
