Watch: Torre Fired as Mets Manager
By Matthew Cerrone - Oct 30, 2007 7:00 pm

…this is priceless…so, so odd to watch

The following is a video clip from WABC-TV in New York reporting on the firing of Joe Torre as manager of the Mets, complete with on-air responses from then-GM Frank Cashen, OF Lee Mazzilli, and several man-on-the-street reactions…

…by the way, hat’s off to mazz for rocking that stylish mustache…he looks like my dad at that age…outstanding…

Ah, the good old days. The Mets on free TV everyday. No cable, No internet, No cell phones, No Wife, No kids, No Boss, No Bills
Lee Mazzilli, Pete Falcone, John Pacella, Life was Good !

Agreed … except … I remember the Mets being on free TV maybe once or twice a week, which stunk. The rest of the games were on pay-for SportsChannel.

Good old days indeed. Young innocent days cheering like hell for Doug Flynn, Frank Taveras and Dwight Bernard. Life was much simpler back then. Where have you gone Kevin Kobel??

It’s easy to forget how cheesy TV was back in 1981. Cheesy newcast, cheesy commercials. Just pretty lame. Gotta love Maz’s porno star ’stach, though.

Where’s the Rick Cerone “10″ jeans commercial?

Good job, Frank Cashen, on firing Torre. He’s a bum.

Oh, and next June, we’ll have the #5 pick in the amateur draft. Keep an eye out on this kid from Tampa, Dwight Gooden.

I like the chick with the accent that wanted Billy Martin. Guaranteed she is a Yankee fan now.

Fantastic Clip… The commericals and other story, was just as amuzing…

However…. who is the FREAK… who keeps tapes of WABC news from over 25 years ago, and says last week. “Hmmmm … I got an Old Tape of Torre getting fired from the Mets… I’m gonna put it on youtube” AMAZING

I guess things are overly quiet in Metsville.

Lee Mazzilli’s accent is New York in a nutshell.

It makes me miss Paul Lo Duca. We need that guy back!!!!

If the Mets sign Alex; will we be spared the Jeter commercials on SNY? If so, break the bank!
By the By; would the Jets not be easier to watch if they have a cheerleading squad similar to Dallas?
Just some random thoughts waiting for Omar the master mind to reveal his plan for 2008; our season will come again!

That Sassoon commercial made me think of a chant they used for Ron Duguay (who was in one of their commercials) at the Garden: “Ooh…la la…you suck!” Ah the blue seats in the late 70s-mid 80s….

That Sassoon commercial made the 3 minutes spent watching this worthwhile.

Hey Mazz, don’t sweat it. We’re about to acquire George Foster, and you’re off to Texas soon for Ron Darling and Walt Terrell, who we’ll turn into Howard Johnson en route to a Championship.

Don’t worry, we’ll dump Foster and bring you back in time to join the festivities.

The day this happened, I watched WCBS-TV news, where Tony Guida screamed “A good, decent man was fired today by the New York Mets,” and then turned to Len Berman, who said “Maybe George’ll hire him.” Ah, Len … wise beyond your years!
