The Mets have re-signed free-agent infielder Damion Easley to a one-year, $950,000 contract.

Mets GM Omar Minaya, regarding the return of Easley…

“Damion Easley is a valuable component to the team, in the infield, the outfielder or off the bench.  He’s completely recovered from his injury and should be ready to go by spring training.”

In 76 games for the Mets this past season, the 36–year-old Easley hit .280 with 10 HR in just 193 at-bats.

Easley missed the final 40 games of the season, after spraining his ankle against the Nationals in mid-August.

Easley, on the state of his ankle…

“I’m progressing nicely from the injury.  I’m building up strength and should be 100 percent by spring training.  I’m looking forward to coming back to do my part to take care of unfinished business.”
