In his blog for ESPN.com, citing ‘industry sources,’ Peter Gammons writes that teams have been notified by the Marlins that 3B Miguel Cabrera can
be had in a trade, and will cost at least ‘three significant young players.’
For instance, according to Gammons, assuming their interested, the Yankees will likely be asked to part with at least RHP Philip Hughes, while the Dodgers will likely be asked for at least LHP Clayton Kershaw or 3B Andy LaRoche, among others.
…good…as i have said before, i rather the Mets send their best package off for pitching…and so, if a team like the Yankees or Dodgers end up parting with their best prospects for cabrera, it means there will be one less team in the market for pitching…

Tagged Miguel Cabrera |Earlier this week, MetsBlog posted a quick rundown of the free agent/draft-pick compensation rule.
As mentioned in the post, compensation is based on three type of players, Type A, Type B and Unclassified, which is determine by a formula created by the Elias Sports Bureau.
At MLB Trade Rumors, Tim Dierkes provides links to the Elias rankings, as well as a quick breakdown of the rankings.
According to the rankings, the only Mets free agents that would bring back any type of draft-pick compensation if signed by another club are; Tom Glavine (Type A), Paul Lo Duca (Type B), Luis Castillo (Type B) and Shawn Green (Type B).
Dierkes also provides a listing of this season’s free agents that are represented by ‘super-agent’ Scott Boras.

Delgado, talking to WFAN on September 21, 2007 said…
“I think at times we can get a little careless. We’ve got so much talent, I think sometimes we get bored.”
…he’s not saying he is bored, specifically…he’s saying the team in general would play like it was bored, which is something i think you and i would actually agree with him about…yet, if you read and listen to some fans, you’d think the statement was, ‘I, Carlos Delgado, am bored and do not care to win,’ which is not at all what he said…
…the thing is, in this media market, he should know better than to say anything remotely close to this, regardless if it is true…however, i hate to see the ‘bored’ comment get stuck to him and only him…actuallly, if you go back and listen to Paul Lo Duca during his mid-day interviews throughout the season on the same station, i suspect you will hear him repeatedly making a similar comment, but it was done in a more forewarning way, not revisionist like delgado…the point is, to peg delgado as careless and bored is inaccurate…instead, include him with the rest of the team, who all appeared carless and bored…
In a report for the Daily News, citing ‘Mets sources,’ Bill Madden and Mark Feinsand write that the Mets have made free-agent C Jorge Posada their top priority at catcher.
According to Madden and Feinsand, the Yankees have discussed an offer of three years, $40 million for Posada. However, the two reporters cite one source as saying Posada will want
‘more.’
…hmmm, ‘more’ money, or ‘more’ years…also, is he capable of playing first base, or some other position, because in the national league, as a 36–year-old catcher, i think we all know he will eventually have to come out from behind the dish…i suspect even the Yankees, with the designated hitter, are having that discussion…the thing is, for the Mets, who may need to give him four years, maybe five, a position switch will absolutely be necessary…
In 144 games this past season for the Yankees, Posada hit a career-high .338 with 20 HR, 90 RBI and a .426 OBP.
Posada has played in at least 137 games during each of the last eight seasons.
Tagged Paul Lo Duca |Tom Glavine officially filed for free agency yesterday, while declining to pick up his option for 2008.
During a conference call yesterday, Mets GM Omar Minaya said he has interest in bringing back Glavine, but like last yea he doesn’t expect to know of the pitcher’s plans until late-November.
Glavine’s agent has told reporters that the pitcher continues to favor the Mets and Braves.
Of course, earlier this week in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Braves beat-writer David O’Brien categorizes Atlanta as the ‘front-runner’ to sign Glavine.
…as i said then, i still think there is a chance he ends up with the Mets, but if so, it will be because this year’s situation evolved like last year’s, in which the Braves back out…
This past weekend in Newsday, Ken Davidoff explained why Glavine is most likely to either sign with the Braves or Nationals, or just retire. Also, early this off-season, ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick listed the Nationals as a possible landing spot for Glavine, as well.

Mets 3B David Wright appeared on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart last night, which you can watch by clicking here.
During the eight-minute interview, Wright had the following to say regarding…
…not making the playoffs, and how he is dealing with it…
“Nightmares, every night. Nightmares. You know, it’s one of those things, it’s tough to say now, but in the long-run, hopefully, it helps us out. It’ll build character. Will learn how to deal with adversity. I mean, throughout those last two weeks we were getting ripped pretty good and we learned to deal with that.”
…the talk of Alex Rodriguez taking over his job…
“Just seeing the way that Boston celebrated, seeing the winners of World Series, first and foremost I want to win. Am I saying that I would change positions for a guy like Alex Rodriguez? If the front office called me and said, ‘Hey, look, we want to make this team better and you’re involved,’ I would absolutely want to sit down and listen. But for right now I am the third baseman of the New York Mets, and I’m going into the 2008 season prepared to be the third baseman.”
…whether the Mets need to add a high-profile free agent…
“I think we have a good, young, core group of guys…But, I hope we go out and make some improvements. I think the pitching side kind of fell apart down the stretch, and we could use another big bat - maybe in the outfield.”
The David Wright Foundation is hosting their Third Annual Do the Wright Thing Gala on November 15 in New York City.
