Mets 3B David Wright is among 10 players who have been nominated for This Year in Baseball’s Hitter of the Year Award, presented by State Farm Insurance.

Speaking of Wright, he, Michael Cuddyer, B.J. Upton, Ryan Zimmerman and Justin Upton recently took part in a charity home-run derby for Chesapeake, VA’s newly opened Grassfield High School.
Cuddyer and Upton are graduates of Great Bridge High, while Wright graduated from Hickory High. According to a local report, Grassfield was built to ‘ease overcrowding’ at Great Bridge and Hickory, among other local schools.
Cuddyer won the event, defeating Wright in the final round.
At her blog, We’ve Got Heart, Virginia-blogger Kristen gives a round-by-round recap of the derby.
According to Kristen, “Afterwards, the guys all filtered out but David Wright stopped to sign autographs for a really long time.”
…hat tip to Amazin Avenue for the link…
Also, The David Wright Foundation is hosting their Third Annual Do the Wright Thing Gala on November 15 in New York City.

So who won…Zimmerman or Wright?
yea..who did win? lol
Cuddyer of the Minnesota Twins won the HR Derby defeating Wright in the final round. Can’t wait for all of the posts complaining about how Wright will only hit 6 HRs next year as a result of ruining his swing in this HR Derby.
Thanks for the link. Just wanted to make that small correction too. While I wish Zimmerman would have won — in fact, it was Cuddyer and Wright in the Final Round.
Why does the title say “Note: D’Wright wins High School HR Derby”
A bit missleading?
VA, what a hot bed for young American Baseball Talent
uh-oh….Wright finished 2nd in a homerun derby? I think we can all expect a crappy first half next year…
I’m joking, by the way. Although, if he does get out to a slow start, can we all agree that he’s never allowed to participate in a HR derby again?
