Quote: Optimistic on Lo Duca
By Matthew Cerrone - Nov 5, 2007 10:08 pm

Mets GM Omar Minaya, as quoted today by the Associated Press, regarding Alex Rodriguez, upon arriving in Orlando for the GM Meetings…

“He’s one of the free agents on the market and we’re looking at all free agents.  Does he fit on your team?  And then, like anything else is, at what cost is he going to fit on your team?

“We’re very happy with Jose Reyes.  We’re very happy with David Wright.  I don’t consider that a position of need.”

Also, Minaya told the AP that he is optimistic about the possibility of re-signing free-agent C Paul Lo Duca.

I knew it! That just made my night!

Lo Duca in 2008!!! Now lets just get Rudy in DC and the coup will be complete!!!

I hope we bring Lo Duca, but hopefully we’ll also take a pass on Rudy. I like civil liberties

What is the cost on ARod? Very high Minaya!!! But no reason Mets can’t outspend everybody. They will get it back 2-fold in marketing, sellouts, etc. by signing him. They should be able to outspend every team in MLB except for the Yankees with their huge revenue streams, new network SNY, and with the new Citifield. I don’t wanna hear it from Freddie Coupons anymore. Enough is enough- having a payroll that is one half of the Yankees’ payroll is no longer acceptable. Open up the wallets.

The fact is, the positions that A-rod takes are already filled. Minaya isn’t going to spen $200 Million at least to get a player at a position that is already filled. Not to mention that A-Rod hates NY.

The Dodgers have the money and the need to sign a big bat and a 3B. They’re going to get a-rod.

As for Lo Duca, great. Posada is going back to the Yankees, and there are no other good catchers available via trade or free agency.

Omar, if you so happen to be reading this comment on this blog, trade Milledge for Blanton, sign Fukudome, Castillo, Castro, Lo Duca and Romero, and get rid of Mota and Show.

Oh yeah, A-Rod hates NY. I had forgotten that…

MAINLY BECAUSE HE’S NEVER SAID IT!!

Show me what you’ve seen to make you post that A-Rod hates NY. Please.

Buy the championship! Buy a jingle! Buy America! Buy! Buy! Buy! Pay Ten Gazillion Dollars! Gotta buy ‘em all!

LOL, more non-answers from Omar. He’s not going to give any clue this early about which way the club may be leaning. If anyone reads his latest non-answer and still thinks the Mets are frontrunners for A-Rod then they have a serious problem deciphering reality from fantasy.

    arod is worth the money

alou, easley, probably lo duca and castillo. we’re rebuilding the 2007 team that played under .500 for the last four months of the season. the braves and phillies are currently better than the mets, guys.

where is the upgrade coming in? tom glavine’s starting spot? i know it seems awful but you’re really not gonna do much better than glavine without getting somebody top of the line, and we don’t have the farm system for that. blanton, lowry, silva- these guys are not major upgrades over tom glavine.

outside right field our team is only getting older. where’s the improvement? winning in ‘08 is an awful lot to ask of milledge and duaner sanchez. i know there’s plenty of time for moves to be made, but we don’t have the talent to make a move for a big time pitcher and we’re locking up left field, second base and catcher with fragile old guys that have been on the decline for years.

we sure as hell don’t have any minor league talent anybody wants. it just doesn’t make sense for any of the top of the line pitchers to come to the mets right now.
our greatest resource is money. i hate a-rod right now but i’m probably only 50 bombs away from being ready to retire his number. gimmie a reason to be optimistic, omar.

I’m optimistic about us not bringing Lo Duca back.

    • christian warrior says:

      Yeah, me too.

I really hope we decide to go in another direction. Towards the end of the season, I was happy when I saw Ramon Castro in the lineup. That has to mean something.

VCarver — notice the piece also says Schillling is making progress in returning to the red sox…

what now for your master plan for 2008?

  8. BiggieSmalls says:
