for some reason, the thought that omar might be exhibitting prejudice somehow makes us prejudiced. that is called knee jerk liberalism. thought police. please consider the fact that omar is not a canonized saint, and the possibility that he may fall prey to the darker side himself. After all, the evidence really does not lie.

Update -- latest word tonight is that Schilling might be close to re-signing with the Red Sox. Hopefully it won't work out and he'll end up with the Mets.

Living in Boston and seeing Schilling pitch over the last few seasons, I think we should seriously consider signing him -- all he wants is a one year deal.

Yes, he's almost as old as Glavine, and yes he got injured right after his overpowering one-hitter in June, but after he came back he proved he can still pitch. With off-season rehab he may well be the hard-thrower he was before the relatively minor injury.

He would be a upgrade in every way over Glavine (ERA was over half a run lower in a much tougher league), including in the guts department. He would also be a great mentor for Maine, and as much as a clubhouse leader as a pitcher can be.

The only downside I see is that the rumor here in Boston is that he and Pedro did not get along -- maybe Pedro resented the new guy coming into town and getting all the attention.

If Pedro gives his OK I'm all for this deal. It's a short term solution in a situation where there probably is no long term solution this year.

if it isn't batting average, home runs, rbi's or runs scored, vcarver thinks it's a "made up statistic"!

not wanting torrealba does not necessitate Lo Puca. there is not a natural progression here. Ramon Hernandez gets tired? what makes LoPuca home run trot out his DP grounders? Paul loPuca--the human hemmorhoid

This is my deepest fear--that the GM who tried to introduce Sammy Sosa Redux would bring back the Baseball Blob from Lower Slobbovia--yours truly--Bartolo Colon. lOrd give us strength. Why not sign Orlando Cepeda--or is he dead?

OK, so we know who you do NOT want. Tell us who you DO want. You can only get players that are avaiable, after all.
