Schilling is exactly what the Mets dont need anyway. He's an older, injury prone, known to have issues with a current Met, pitcher who will be a free agent after 2008.

considering they already have Pedro, Duque, and Oliver Perez to think about resigning/replacing, signing any (significant) starter to a one year deal is not the way to go. Someone like a Kip Wells getting a 1 year deal to be a 5th starter candidate makes much more sense.

IMO, they need a solid 3rd starter or better to be a bridge into 2009 when someone like Santana or Sabathia will be brought in.

Well there goes Schilling off the market. According to Schilling critics, this now means the Red Sox have lowered their chances to make the playoffs and win another title because they've put this uber risky pitcher in the rotation. Nevermind that he just pitched superbly in the postseason, made more than 3/4's of his starts this year, and pitched over 200 innings the year before. All is now lost for the Red Sox!

It's weak because so many teams are re-signing their own players, because teams are making a ton of money, which is why the price of young talent is so high.

"mock GM's" or not teams find ways to sign players obviously. idk why the FA market the past few yrs is so weak but its tough to fix up your team through free agency these days. i mean carlos silva is the leagues best FA starting pitcher.

Remember, though, it's not like you can force people to sign with the Mets. Also, some players may just want to re-sign with their old teams. Lastly, it's most likely that all player's needs for their careers and families don't actually line up with our needs as mock-GM's.
