Last week, in his blog for ESPN.com, citing ‘industry sources,’ Peter Gammons wrote that teams have been notified by the Marlins that 3B Miguel Cabrera can be had in a trade, and will cost at least ‘three significant young players.’
In a report today for FOXSports.com, Ken Rosenthal wonders if any team will meet
Florida’s asking price on Cabrera, considering how much the Rangers got last season for 1B Mark Teixeira.
For instance, according to Gammons, assuming their interested, the Yankees will likely be asked to part with at least RHP Philip Hughes, while the Dodgers will likely be asked for at least LHP Clayton Kershaw or 3B Andy LaRoche, among others.
…from what i understand, though, that’s not how the Marlins initially do business…instead, they identify very specific prospects who they want, like Hanley Ramirez, and then use their best in-house players, like Josh Beckett, to go get them…the thing is, odds are good that laroche or hughes are their target…
However, according to Jon Heyman at SI.com, citing a ‘Marlins source,’ there is a better chance LHP Dontrelle Willis gets traded, not Cabrera.
…now, in the case of willis, because his value has most certainly dipped over the last few seasons, and considering the number of young pitchers on the trade market, unlike the cabrera situation, i suspect the Marlins will actually shop offers for willis - assuming they want to move him…

cabrera would fetch more in a trade. i love d-train but at this point, the mets mets could maybe get him for b+ type prospects.
Which is exactly why you would explore a trade for him …
I really really want Cabrera. He’s such a good hitter. I just don’t think we have the prospects to get him. I think he’d make a pretty good 1B or a Manny-like leftfielder. I want him on my team!
I don’t care to get Cabrera. I wouldn’t mind WIllis, but not for too much.
Oh man, I would love to have Cabrera on this team, but would the Marlins trade him in the division?
I’m less concerned about what the Mets would have to give up, they could always work out a 3-way deal, with an AL team, that could use Delgado and get some prospects back to include in the package.
I’d give him $150 over 7 years and stick him at first base. I just have a feeling (and maybe I read it somewhere) that no matter what team he’s traded to, Cabrera will test the FA market after next season.
DOntrell makes alot more sense for this team. I seriously doubt though that the Fish would want to do a trade with us again considering how two of the last 3 trades with us has worked out for them. (Vargas and Bostick for Linstrom and Owens being heavily in thier favor)
DOntrelle would love pitching against his old team 4 times per yr and he would never let them forget about it by destroying them.
that said…If a deal could be hatched for a one good prospect (Pefrey and send them back Vargas) I’d do it
What would it take to land Dontrelle? I’d take a flyer on him.
There’s your power hitter…
Who knows. His value now is tied into who he was 2 years ago not who he has been for the past 2 seasons. THis current Dontrelle in his current form is essentially no better than Kris Benson (just healthier).
He is a reclamation project and that is likely not worth too much. They are better off keeping him actually except they are cheap and he is about to get another raise
