I dont think Heitpas went the way of the knuckler, I think he converted to pitching because his fastball was decent. He pitched alright in his time with St. Lucie this year.

Zac Clemens was a catcher in the Mets system that converted to a knuckleball pitcher during the 2006 season and then didnt play in pro ball in 2007.

>That has to be the first time I’ve heard of a knuckle-ball pitcher who’s a regular reliever

http://www.baseballhalloffame.org/hofers/detail.jsp?playerId=124261

>Joe Hietpas

I saw him play his only ML inning (so far). It was the last day of the 2004 season. It was also Todd Ziele's last game and the Montreal Expos' last game.

Will Hietpas ever play another ML inning? The odds are against it, but let's see.

It was late in the season. He spent a few weeks in Kingsport and didnt do all that bad. Im actually a supporter of Ragsdale but hes never come close offensively. Hes strikes out wayyy too often and has spent his whole career floating around .200. He has a great glove and an electric arm from short. He has the arm to be a pitcher, I think they should resign him and take the opportunity to see how it plays out

How bout the fact that there are 2 pitchers in the minors with the name Ambiorix? That has to be some kind of record.

sorry, this is a totally random post (I was gonna post it under the Gold Glove Award announcements, but that's already off the front page and nobody would have responded)...Anyway, does anyone have any idea why MLB waits so long to announce the award winners? I mean, the WS has been over for more than a week now, they just announced the Gold Glovers yesterday, and the next major award announcements (Manager of the Year) isn't for another week. MVP doesn't get announced until November 19!! That's practically Thanksgiving... I always thought in the past that the announcements were made a few days after the WS, and were all made on consecutive days (GG- Manager-Rookie-Cy Young-MVP)

This whole postseason really seems like Selig is taking a page from the NBA's "how to kill interest in your league" handbook and is spreading everything out so far, completely killing all momentum. Once the postseason starts, there shouldn't be any days without baseball except for 1 day in between the DS and LS, and then 1 day between LS and WS, and then like 2 or 3 days between WS and award announcements.

MATT…You should run a contest …with the prize being some Mets opening day or series tickets….Just run a link…where everyone gets 1 shot at naming the opening day line-up, rotation.(include starters 1 - 5), and bullpen…..start it this week and let it run until the GM meetings start…1 entry per person…..I think that would be awesome!!!
