Living in DC I got to see them both a fair bit. Rauch would be the better fit for the pen. What we need in the pen is a work horse who can put in an inning or two on a semi-regular basis, and that's what he provides. His ERA ain't fabulous, but it's good, and he's a big guy with lots of endurance. He was at or near the top in the NL at G and IP out of the pen. Cordero is good, but we already have 3 like him: Heilman, Duaner, and Billy.

he Nats don't have one player on their roster worth Gomez straight up. Omar better find a better way to fix the bullpen than giving up the only marginal prospects in the Mets system. by the way, who cares what the Nats want, they are irrelevant. Get a friggin starter that can go 7.

IMO either Cordero or Rauch would be a much needed addition and I would do Gomez straight up for either one (Cordero is 4 yrs younger, but Rauch is just as reliable and would more likely accept a set-up role).

I would rather keep Pelfrey since he may turn out to be just as effective out of the pen as either of the above, and he's still young enough to develop into a proper starter.

I agree we have to trade from our strength to get better. Gomez may be great one day but Beltran is young and locked up, Milledge and Martinez project higher. Thus a trade of Gomez makes sense. Gomez is not going to bring back a quality SP so using him to bring in other pieces of the puzzle makes sense.

We would not get both. I think Rauch would be cheaper but actually may be more reliable. Again I would think a trade of Gomez and Pelfrey/Humber for Rauch, Church and Florez would solve many of our needs.

I think you guys are really over-estimating the value of Gomez. He's a young guy with some upside, but we have solid young OFs already in Milledge and F-Mart, what we don't have is a closer in the waiting and a guy who can help us right now. Cordero is both of those things, and he plays with passion.

Put him on a contender like the Mets and in a bullpen with Heilman, Sanchez and Wagner and you're dealing with arguably the best pen in the league for 2-3 years that gives the starting pitchers that much more confidence.

Thank You!!! It's these types of 'under teh radar' deals that make a difference. And it's comments like yours that increase the collective IQ on this blog. An IQ that is suffering due to all these mindless "Sign AROD" posts.

Oh yeah Jacobs is a real terror right now, same with Jason Bay. Besides Gomez might develop into a decent hitter with great speed but by no means at this point do I see him as a super star.
