Can we get real serious about what the Mets need this winter? We have to deal with the pitching. Look at September, the Mets didn't lose because they couldn't score, the pitching couldn't hold the lead. Here is what we need to do:

We have to acknowledge that the Mets blew it last year by not getting at least one of the following: Tim Hudson, Barry Zito, or Jeff Suppan. Now, let's deal with it and get beyond it: Aaron Heilman needs to come out of the bullpen and into the rotation. He has the ability to give us innings, and that is the real secret to having the relief pitching neccesary for the post-season.

We keep Pelfry and we keep Humber.

If we really want Glavine, who is good and can still pitch, let's make him an offer he can't refuse and see if he really wants to be with us, which I doubt. I didn't go over to the Army for the fact I have a weird tie to the Navy, where I started my military career, so I understand if he wants to go into retirement a Brave. If that is the case, thanks for the time, you gave us some real chances to make the post-season and we only hope that when we play the Braves and you are the pitcher that we beat your ass. Otherwise, have a great season.

Get Pedro in a strength building program and lets make sure he is healthy and ready for next year. You want El Duque? Fine, but bring in Livan Hernandez and keep Oranldo until mid-season so you have him in the Fall. This way, we have: Perez, Pelfrey, Heilman, Maine, and then we can rotate Glavine, Pedro, Livan, and El Duque as the number 5 starter.

Personally, I think what we need to do is have the coaches work with Perez, Pelfry and Maine and get them to strengthen their arms and last until 8. Then we need Sanchez or Bradford back to get us through an innning or two as the rubber arm, and get us to Wagner, though we have to be careful with that because we risk wearing those guys out, which is what happened this year. We have good pitchers, we just need them to have stronger arms to last longer. They should be embarrassed that Glavine is the one who pitched more innings than they did. That's sad and that's what we need to deal with. Forget getting someone else, just work on building up what we have and quit going to bullpen so often.

I just like that he shows emotion and confidence... two things that were missing at the end of last season. Some people think he's arrogant... personally, I think too many players have forgotten what it's like to have a little personality. Just because he doesn't have a secret handshake for every player, a la Reyes, doesn't mean he's a bad guy. I loved when he high-fived the fans after his homer vs. the Giants. Anyone who thinks he was trying to show up the Giants needs to relax. The kid was excited... I'm glad he's not a robot.

i really hate when people say things like this. unless you are a doctor or a trainer on a MLB team i dont care about your medical opinion on a guy. every freakin trade rumor about a good pitcher has someone say "hes gonna need surgery". im just curious what ACE out there right now is immune to getting hurt?

That's still only three starts. Get back to me when he's made 8 or 9 post-season starts that awful.

by the way, I love Jake Peavy. The only reason I even noticed these stats is because a few months ago I was arguing that he should have a case for MVP on an ESPN message board, and while comparing his stats to a number of other pitchers, I noticed his dismal postseason stats, and then while watching him get crushed in the 1-game playoff it came back to me. I still think he's one of the top 3 pitchers in baseball right now, I just don't think he's the kind of ace who's gonna shut down opponents in the postseason ala Beckett or '01 Randy Johnson or '99 Pedro
