Buzz: Posada, Yanks Far Apart

Mark Feinsand of the Daily News reports the Yankees and free agent C Jorge Posada are not making any progress in their contract talks.

According to Feinsand, the Yankees offered the 36-year old catcher a three-year contract, but Posada is seeking a four-year deal worth $52 million.

Over at SI.com, Jon Heyman reports Yankees GM Brian Cashman is expected to increase the team’s current offer in hopes to sign Posada before he hits the open market on November 13.

Earlier this week Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com noted the free agent catcher could expect a ‘monster offer’ from the Mets once the signing period opens.

…the buzz around baseball continues to suggest posada, like Mariano Rivera, will eventually re-sign with the Yankees, and as cerrone has mentioned, while using the Mets as leverage…

Monster offer?

How about: 3 years at 44M (w/bonuses to make another 1-2) and a 4th year option at 8M with a 3M buyout. Guaranteed 47M.

How about getting a restraining order on Omar that he not go within 500 miles of Posada or his agent?

BTW – Posada would be a perfect fit for 1-2 years assuming Castro is the backup. There is no guarantee he can play 1B so we’d be stuck with him in Yr 3 and Yr. 4 (w/o a buyout).

Hopefully, Pena will be ready in 3 yrs.

Reyes
Castro
Wright
Beltran
Alou (Chavez would bat 7th against some righties)
Posada
Delgado
Millege

Nice

I don’t like a slow-poke like Castro in the middle of the speed of Reyes, Wright & Beltran – he’ll clog up the bases.

Unless we’re asking Castro to play 2nd base, I think he meant Castillo.

You’re right – thanks.

I can live with Posada for 3 years. Posada played full time I believe in 2000 no? He may have less mileage on the tires..

Can we please stop chasingYankees, particularly old Yankees. The Mets make me sick, wasting their time on dyed in the wool Yankees. Or make believe offers for ARod. Stop trying to con the fans. They are only trying to drive up the Yankee price for their own man. They have no chance of signing him. They just waste valuable time tring to score transparent public relations victories

No Posada please!!!!!!! No way do you give a catcher his age a deal for more than 3 years and more than $40K. This would be a stupid move. Stop chasing old yankees! By the way Posada is older than Lo Duca! No more yankees…willie randolph is enough……
