Cant we have Pelfrey and El Duque in the pen?

    • zer09 says:

I can’t believe that the highest total of people want to pray for the health of Padilla and Sanchez. No way that it’s the BEST way to improve the bullpen

      • moze1021 says:

Duaner Sanchez healthy and a 2006 level is by far better than ANY pitcher available via free agenct or trade….

If he comes back at the same level we skyrocket right back to having one of the best bullpens in the game since he is an elite set-up guy…..

I think people forget just how dominant Duaner was…

        • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

i dont think anyone forgot that, but i think its more than we all remember he was in a car crash that completely destroyed his pitching shoulder and had serious surgery to repair it while missing 1 1/2 years due to this injury. you can pray all you want for duaner but i doubt he’ll be what he was in 06.

    • Mets Genius says:

      SIGN ERIC GAGNE!!!!!!

  2. gipper913 says:

    Cerrone,

Poll won’t let me choce more than one.

    • adropofvenom says:

Same here, not to mention if it’s multi-choice then there should be more choices…Trade for Cordero or Rauch (or any number of players who could be had via trade). Sign Jeremy Affeldt (Col), Ron Mahay (TX/ATL), JC Romero (PHI), Kerry Wood (CHI), Luis Viscaino (NYY) or one of the Japanese arms (Kawakami? Iwase?), many of them should be choices.

  3. zer09 says:

Where’s the Cordero/Rauch trade? And why is Dotel limited to one year? Also, the instructions state that we can select more than 1, yet it doesn’t allow you to do that. Are the wrong instructions the residual effect of the previous poll?

  4. dave27 says:

Why do these polls add the variable of length of contract? I’d rather just see people’s input on the best way to structure the 2008 bullpen instead of specualting on what length of contract is necessary.

  5. moze1021 says:

Someone REALLY has to remove the following:

“i will run a new poll every hour or so, so please check back often…”

THERE HAVE BEEN 7 POLLS IN 3 DAYS!!!!

How is that “every hour or so”!???

  6. Jolting Joe says:

I think without a doubt that the freak injury to Duaner was the worst thing to happen to the Mets the past 2 seasons. His presence may have got them into the WS in 2006 and his absence in 2007 was a fatal blow to the bullpen.

    • gameball says:

Yeah, I’ve been brooding about that lately, thinking about what a huge short- and long-term difference it made to the team. And last year he showed up to camp out of shape and not ready to throw.

If only we had reason to be confident that he can come back after a year and a half and be the pitcher he was before.

  7. bigchart333 says:

sucks cuz i want Duque in hte pen AND to sign linebrink..and i want affeldt. I’d also like cordero lol, but i think if we trade, we have to get a starter. SPEND THE MONEY ON THE GUYS WHO WANNA BE HERE, LO DUCA AND CASTILLO!!! Sign new relievers and trade our best prospects for an IMPACT starter (one that can be had WITHOUT trading maine or reyes). Like Oil Can Boyd

    • stickguy says:

I don’t care who “wants” to be there. Sign the guys with the talent to get the team to the WS.

Heck, I want to be signed for the bench, but that isn’t happening either!

      • bigchart333 says:

sorry, didnt mean ONLY sign the guys that wanna be hear, but i’d be pissed if we traded prospects to get a cather or 2b…so why not sign our guys that ALSO want to play for us…

and how come no mention from mlbtraderumors that the tigers asked us about a delgado for polanco or guillen swap? i think it’s bs and they’re just gaugin our interest in A-Rod

      • ravi3 says:

Really…have some confidence man!!! I want to be signed to start in RF!

  8. Protes says:

I abstained from this poll. Need to fix for multiple anwers for one thing — and at the very least include an ‘Other’ option.

The bottom line is there are many ways to adress the pen. The biggest thing right now is a healthy Duaner returning to form (which we can’t expect after missing a year plus).

I think we should look for a veteran like a Todd Jones to set up. While I don’t want us spending wildly on old guys, we need someone out there who knows what they’re doing and has been there in order to settle things down. A one year deal for someone like Jones might be sensible at this point.

  9. keithc says:

Linebrink would be perfect. He’s a first-half guy, so he’s a great compliment to Heilman, a second-half guy. Then we can trade Linebrink for whatever we may need in July!

    • napes22 says:

I’ve always been opposed to wasting a draft pick on a Reliever. Linebrink is a class A free agent and hasn’t been himself over the last two years. If we are going to lose draft picks (which we always do) i’d rather it for top flight talent.

  10. ChiliGTC says:

Cerrone – this is what I want:

    1) move El Duque to the pen
    2) pray for Dirty Sanchez to be healthy
    3) sign F Cordero or trade for C Cordero to be the 8th inning guy and closer-in-waiting

    4) keep Pelfrey as the #5 starter
    5) trade for a “Blanton” type starter (I don’t think we can get a #1, but a good #2 is more than enough)

We’ll have 4 #2 starters in Pedro, Perez, Maine, and Blanton/Willis type guy!

    • gameball says:

      Sounds like a plan.

    • TilMetsDoUsPart says:

Getting Blanton and Chad C. would be a nearly impossible feat, all while keeping Pelfrey.

The Brewers have already stated that they will push hard to get Francisco back. It will cost a whole lot to get him for a setup role. Can’t Sanchez and Smith be the 8th inning guys?

      Milledge & Heilman for Blanton
Sign Kosuke Fukudome for 4 years, $50 million.
      Re-sign Lo Duca and Castillo.

With all the teams in the hunt for A-rod, Santana, Lowell, and Cabrera, the Mets have little to no chance of landing any of them.

  11. BSMITTYFDNY says:

These polls are so biased to what Cerrone wants for the team. He lists what he thinks would be good ideas and also lists ideas he disaproves of but does so in a sneaky way by including the number of years for the contract. He does this so that option looks bad because the contract looks too long. He also intentionally omits certain options because he doesnt want to see them happen. IE: No David Wright to play 2nd base after we sign ARod. These polls have been a joke.
Also, How is it possible that a larger percentage of you would want to see Octavio “Mr. DL” Dotel signed over a very good reliever in Riske. Dotel should undoubtably be the last choice. But again Matt gives the option of Dotel for 1 year and Riske at 3 years because he has previously posted he would like to see Dotel signed thus swaying the vote.
